Martin Logan XT F100 Tower Speaker Review

Hi, great review. Question regarding the xtb100. Would I be missing anything by opting to get the bookshelf’s with dual svs subs vs the towers f100? Is there any benefit of having f100 with subs vs b100 with subs as I will be crossing them over at 80-100hz regardless of setup?

Hi! Good question. You are almost always going to get more presence out of towers vs bookshelves as with towers, to a certain extent the entire speaker is acting as an instrument with resonances. Bigger the instrument...bigger the presentation. With that said, I think that you can get great sound for the buck with your proposed set-up. Therefore: BEST SOUND POSSIBLE > F100s with subs. BEST FOR BUDGET > Your proposal

Hi - great review! I see you had the 60XTi still in the setup. What were your thoughts on the F100 against the 60XTi?

Thanks for stopping by. The F100 are slightly more forward with their treble signature and provide more realism with drums and wind instruments. The 60s have a bit more fullness/bass (the F200s match the 60s in this regard). At the current close-out price, the 60s are an excellent buy. Check out the description in our video below and you will find links to the 60s at crazy prices (I think there are still some in cherry around). Did you guys get to listen to the Martin Logan F20? Was wondering if that would be a step up from the Xt B100. Certainly in terms of price it is, but xt vs motion tweeter. Wondering if you guys had an opinion on that.

Hey...thanks for stopping by. We haven't had a chance to spend time with the F20s yet. We just got in the B10s and we'll be doing a review soon on them to compare the B10 vs B100 sound characteristic. Can you say more about room size and speaker size? What about the ML XT F100s in a 13x14.5 ft room?

Thanks for stopping by. We made a comment in this video about speaker placement and that they were too close for one of the particular tracks to sound its best. We had just moved things around to accommodate some tools and our seating area was much closer than it normally was.
Think of speakers like an instrument. Bigger speakers do a better job of pressurizing larger rooms. However, optimal placement is key. If you are at a concert and you are 5' from one of the giant PA speakers, aside from losing your hearing in 3 seconds...the experience isn't optimal. Same with tower speakers.
How far back will the seating area be in your place?
