Ronnie, studies have found that although there is less friction in less tensioned chains, it doesn’t paint the whole story. Ultimately, lower tension is less efficient despite lower friction. See the IHPVA journal titled “On the Efficiency of Bicycle Drivetrains” The authors found that “the highest efficiency measured in the study, 98.6%, was measured at a chain tension of 305 N and the lowest, 80.9%, at 76.2 N.”
I also saw a recent video of your where you were showing a bike of a client(?) who has a 12 tooth smallest sprocket, as opposed to 11. This study also demonstrates that the larger the rear sprocket, the higher the efficiency.

I am a fan of your channel and I like your advises. I hope you can have a good mic in the future so you the sound is better and clearer explanations.

So to size the chain, you would just put it on the little ring at front and fifth small sprockets, and make sure the RD doesn't rub? That should give you the longest possible chain, while still being able to ride in the little ring and in the fifth smallest sprocket, right?

    Hi,
I ran a 52/36 oval chainrings x 12/28 cassette, 6870 di2 rear with OSPW at medium tension, correct size chain, but my chain skips when I pedal hard on small chainring and 3 to 8 sprockets.
The sprockets, chain and OSPW are new, my chainrings are used.
What did I do wrong or what should I do?Do I need to change the chainrings?
    Thanks.

HI Ronald, thank you, great video. I will put this - your thoughts - into consideration with my Synchro Shifting configuration to avoid top / lower gear friction.
+ I would like to raise a question due to the chain length with your CermamicSpeed.
++ Did you extend your chain with additional links before CeramicSpeed installation?
++ or did you keep the same chain length as before with normal derailleur?
    Thank you.

Hi, the chain needs to be longer with most setups

Hey Ronnie! Great video, very interesting to see the benefits of a longer chain, but what are the steps you use to determine your chain length? :)

Diego Spinazzi there needs to be enough tension in the 53-11. I started from that and it worked. I haven't seen this anywhere else, it's a bit of trial and error.

    Fantastic subject!
Sram Red chain comes in 114 links standard.
How many links did you add?

veyronzondaf I use XX1 chains, they come with 118 links

Are your YBN chains too short?

Nice! Finally someone who's riding the Corsas on a rim comparable to mine. How do the 25mm sit?

Johannes Pfaff perfect on the front, a bit too wide on the rear

Thanks man! I'm currently riding 26mm Specialized Turbos and I quite like them, so 25mm could be just fine for me, even in the rear. Will try them.

Maybe a slightly bigger small ring on the front?

    Sorry Ron,
Why would you go against the design of the 2x system?. Designed by the best engineers in the world.....???
Sram etap is designed to run in all gears. I don't run 34/11 but I do run 50/28. It's designed to do that. 👍
I did that on my old Madone, and it was fine...👍

Andy Stone just because you can, doesn't mean you should. All of this is based on Friction Facts test data.
