Hey guys. So I decided to finally run my Traxxas X-01, and in this tabletop video I perform the necessary steps to the car's hardware (as per Traxxas) to prepare the X01 for 100 Mph speed runs.

Just watching this for fun since i have an older XO-1 like your old one i know i'm late to the party. Currently mine is having steering issues i think it's the bellcrank flexing too much under power and speed. So i plan to buy an aluminum bellcrank for it and maybe a Perfect Pass monster servo i also plan to get a sway bar kit for the car. I wish you would do more speedrun videos with your cars i would love to see them since i've been getting into this side of the hobby as of late and i already have two cars the XO and the AK-917 but i plan to get another 4-Tec 2.0 and an Arrma Felony or Infraction 1\7.
Cool video of the older XO-1, I bought one of these cars as a roller and i plan to put in a Castle Mamba Monster X 8s with the new Sensored 1717 1,650KV motor and i might buy another one for my future Infraction V2. I sure will have some fast cars i'm kind of new to this part of the hobby.
Why they don't just come ready for 100mph is beyond me. Anyone that buys this car is getting it for top speed. They should include the slow gear on the side instead lol
Probably a liability thing.Since you put in the speed gear now you can’t blame them for anything,you knowingly changed that out and choose to run it at that speed.I could be wrong tho
Just the man I need to speak to! I'm looking at getting the ESC out of one of these for another car of mine but I'm wondering about the unlocking feature? So I know the xo1 comes locked and u have to unlock it for the 100mph but if I buy a new ESC will that come locked and can I unlock it just using the castle link software???? Hopefully you'll know pal 🤘🏻
Hey brother! Yeah I had this problem when I wanted to use my X-01 Esc with a non Traxxas radio. So you need to have the esc unlocked to 100mph first. The only way I know how to do this is to have a Traxxas radio with the bluetooth module and to use the Traxxas app. Go into the X-01 part of the app and follow the unlocking instructions. After you do that hook the esc up to the Castle Link program and ucheck LiveLink. I tried on a locked to 100 esc and just uncheck the Live Link in the castle Link program but it would not work with a non Traxxas radio. It would steer but there was no throttle. I tried it with 2 different radios but it would not work. Only after doing the X-01 unlock AND the Castlelink unchecking of LiveLink would it work with a non Traxxas radio. Also they use lead free solder so that small cap pack that comes on the esc is really hard to remove because the solder has a higher melting point. I have a good soldering iron and couldn't remove it. I also used a pencil torch and still couldn't get it...hahaha. I ended up cutting the wires to add my own cap pack.
@@KaizerTest Wow! Glad I spoke you first then my man! So that ESC is called the monster 2 extreme isn't it, you can buy a mamba monster 2 without the caps can't you? Is that different do u know? Maybe it doesn't have the traxxas software and unlocking bollocks 🤔
If you buy a new Mamba Monster 2 (MM2) that is a regular MM2 and comes in the Castle branded box then you don't need the Traxxas 100mph unlock app. If the MM2 came out of an X-01 and has that small cap pack soldered on the battery wires near the esc then it is a high likelyhood you need to do the Traxxas 100mph unlock. You need a Traxxas radio that has the bluetooth module in it and the traxxas app on your phone. I bought another X-01 MM2 esc from Jenny's RC in the USA and it needed the same Traxxas 100mph unlock and the Castle Link live link uncheck done.
@@ksrnate The MMX is a different esc and has data logging. The MM2 that comes in the X-01 is just the Mamba Monster 2. You can buy that esc in castle branded packaging without the X-01 added cap pack. If you buy the X-01 MM2 used or new but taken out of a X-01 then you need to do that unlocking routine. If you don't have a traxxas radio with the bluetooth module and reciever then it will be impossible to use a non traxxas radio with the esc. I'm pretty sure it can't be done any other way unless castle reflashes the esc themselves. I'm not aware of any feature in Castle Live Link that can fix this issue.
@@KaizerTest So if I buy mm2 without the traxxas added stuff just castle packaged then I shouldn't have to unlock it? But it's the same ESC? I wonder if there's anything different between them. Its for my 144 mate, I can't think of any other ESC to get. My mamba X is overheating on every run now and cutting out. So I've reached its limits it seems 🙄

@@TheK20eg You know...it's actually not a bad car and guys have made it go fast. If you take it easy and build up speed slowly you could probably get it to 100mph. The manual is the best I've seen and it's a cool designed car with many parts similar to the Slash 4x4 which is one of my favorite cars. Plus it has that great Castle drivetrain. I think you will probably enjoy it.
@@KaizerTest yeah i was watching videos including yours love the review you did and ive been wanting this car since it came out like 10 years ago smh finally got my hands on it question whats the highest battery do u recommend for run time? I was looking at two 3s lipo 5200 mah 50c batterys to use as a 6s can i go higher then those to?
@@TheK20eg The higher the C rating the better but 50c will work fine. The biggest issue is the battery tray size. The trays are kinds small so you need to find out what size the trays are and double check the battery dimensions. The battery retainer/clip that holds the batteries in can be flipped to have smaller height or larger height batteries. And of course the higher the milliamp hour or MAH the more energy the battery holds which means longer run time. I can look around for you for the battery compartment dimensions but my X-01 is gone now so I can't measure mine. I will check around for you though.
