Very accurate analysis of what punk was REALLY about when it started: the freedom to be mediocre and ordinary with regards to all the visual and technical aspects of playing music. I didn't like REMAIN IN LIGHT when I first heard it, pretty much for the same reasons you mentioned. However, once I soon accepted the "new" Talking Heads, much of their later material became my favorite music by them. MY LIFE IN THE BUSH OF GHOSTS was probably the catalyst for me "getting" what Talking Heads was trying to do at the time. Now REMAIN IN LIGHT is one of my favorite albums.

Thanks for the kind words!! Have you heard CANAXIS by Holger Czukay? Pretty amazing constructions from found sounds and field recordings.. And his 1979 album MOVIES still sounds really relevant and modern. MOVIES is an all-time favorite of mine, and I think a pretty big inspiration on MY LIFE IN THE BUSH OF GHOSTS, but different enough to not be a "steal" but more of an "inspiration." :) Amazing how much Can influenced the music that was happening around that time.

MOVIES is a fun album. I don't know that I appreciate it as much as some of the early CAN albums like TAGO MAGO, EGE BAMYASI or FUTURE DAYS, but it's got great stuff in it, for sure. PERSIAN LOVE in particular sounds like MY LIFE IN THE BUSH OF GHOSTS.
