Watching this makes me nostalgic for my Sega Genesis/CD combo setup. I always preferred the appearance of the tower design of the original models to the later Model 2 revisions with their wider footprint.
This so reminds me of when I had my original "tower of ridiculousness", and enjoyed the heck out of it. I so miss those days, even though the power bricks were crap.

It blew my mind as a kid that if you put a non Sonic game into the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge you got a sweet secret mini game. Those were better days.
Really cool and that was what my system looked like. The older-style Genesis and the Model 1 Sega CD topped off with the 32X. I also had the Power Base Converter but that required me to unplug the 32X. What is missing is the audio mixer cable that went from the Genesis headphone jack to the back of the Sega CD, the av cable that goes from the genesis to the 32X, and the three large power plugs that required you to either have a big strip box or at least one extension cable. Then you ended with the final AV out and the twin RCA stereo cables to connect to your TV. So yeah, it could be a tangled mess if you weren't careful.

Sega has a history of not re releasing sonic 3 and knuckles cause of the copyright issues with the Michael Jackson music. Even when they did a few re releases they altered the music.
Makes a Sonic & Knuckles plastic cartridge just to go with the insanity behind the SEGA tower but doesn't include the actual Sonic & Knuckles game in the Genesis Mini. That's just about the most SEGA thing SEGA has done.
I see an oddly missed opportunity here - Imagine if they had released cartridges individually and let them add 10-15 games each via a bit of flash storage and a usb connection? (and the Sega CD could have been a full-blown release itself)

No the Genesis put them on the map. The Saturn did ok... but almost killed the company... who we all like to point at Bernie Stolar for not trying to bring more games to the US on the Saturn. The Dreamcast did well for about 3 years 1999 - 2002 before the first Xbox and PS2 came out... and brought Sonic to the 3D realm and many addicted to PSO... but the company just wasn't making enough money overseas.

Hook... wait around on stage ONE... hear the tuba solo from the movie soundtrack! The Star Wars game was game was good. Flink, Sonic CD, Revenge of Bari-arm, Soul(crap), Flashback, Earthworm Jim...(special edition!), Lords of Thunder, LunAr, LunAr EB, Popful Mail, Son of Chuck... and some others were ALL good! Battlecorps was good...tough! But good. Silpheed was supposed to be a Star Fox killer but was a glorified version of Galaga... but I ENJOYED it! Miss seeing your little ship flying through the space battles around you! Despite the reviews... more scenery could hurt you than you realized! Loved the overall look of Silpheed. And had early polygons action going on too! Yeah the 32X was a good idea at the wrong time and came too late, but I really enjoyed the Sega CD! Hate it died. Probably just needs a new fuse inside... but I've been slowly selling my collection.

I played my 32x a lot when it came out.i remember my dad buying it for me and it coming with virtual fighter.i was blown away by it just because polygons were the thing of the future!!!!.then a month later he came out of circuit city with four games for like 50 bucks and I did not mind at all.sega Saturn was right around the corner but the 32 x was a nice gateway to next gen before n64 and ps1.
I sold my SEGA collection back in the day for a PS2 and two games, Vertical Fighter 4, and Tecken 4. I have been trying to rebuy my collection back from my childhood.almost complete again. But I also aqiyered some new games in the process. I am a SEGA kid and always will be.
I have the Tower since it came out in Japan, I got it in preorder even before the sega genesis mini. Yes, it is ridiculous but looks amazing right next to my real Sega Tower of Power, I have the exact same setup from the mini in the real hardware. By the way, the Japanese version comes in a white box with Megadrive logo instead of Genesis and a lot of schematics from each of the non-functional devices. I am planning on doing some modding to it to include led lights in the sega cd base and maybe other upgrades to it too.
This seriously just makes me imagine a new console. Like a Dreamcast modeled to look like a Genesis. That raised area where the cart would go would be where the flap for the disc slot goes. Or we just go back to the bigger carts. Cause for some I actually really like them now for some reason. Definitely prefer them over the tiny Switch and DS carts although the new carts are way better space-wise I don't want SEGA to return to the console scene but I really love their old console designs so much.
The Mega Drive Mini is around £65 here in the UK. I genuinely think if they bundled those parts in a special edition for an extra £20 there would be a lot of buyers. I'm not a die hard Sega fan, but this has certainly caught my attention. There's a nice spot for it right next to my Atari 800XL and the monitor...But I think I'll be upgrading and modernising the Atari first if I'm being truthful...

I think the lock was for the sound cable, cause you had to get the Stereo sound from the front.

Sega made a special power strip for this set up. I've only ever seen one and it was a little melted, But very cool looking.
