    LYRICS (English Translation):
    [Intro]
    The long night approaches
    The noisy wind is blowing
    The powerful gather here
    Carrying blades of the heart
Together we swear, together we shout
    Let’s start this journey here
    [Verse 1]
The escape route has been cut off
    The silence has been broken
The time to battle has come
    Raise your hands
    [Chorus]
    The time has come
    Stand up
    Continue to your imagined tomorrow
    Time to go your way
Carve out thе path with your hands
    [Verse 2]
    Even if it's a short-lived wish
Even if it goеs against destiny
    If it’s worth opposing
    Sacrifice your heart
    [Chorus]
    The time has come
    Stand up
If there's a future you want to see
    Time to go your way
Break through the wall with your hands
    [Instrumental Bridge]
    [Chorus]
    The time has come
    Stand up
    Continue to your imagined tomorrow
    Time to go your way
Carve out the path with your hands
    [Post-Chorus]
    Oh, oh oh, oh oh
    Continue to your imagined tomorrow
Woah, oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Carve out the path with your hands

Incredible group. Suzuka Nakamoto is the lead vocalist, i 100% believe she is one of the top vocalists in metal today.

Excellent first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊This is, as you recognised, one of their more serious, positive and uplifting songs (most of them are positive and uplifting). They also have songs that are just fun and performed with a cheeky smile.
There is nobody quite like BABYMETAL. They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed JPop Idol group (they were aged 12 and 11 at the time) and created their own metal sub-genre mixing metal with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics.
As you saw, they have also introduced choreographed dance into metal, but maybe not as you may know it. Their choreo serves two very real purposes: it is bespoke for each song and helps with interpreting the meaning of a lyric or the feel of the song; it is designed to involve and include the audience, to lead the crowd giving them their cues when to jump, pump their fists, chant, sing along and so on.
They separated from the parent group in 2013 and have been touring the world every year (when they could) since 2014.
We have watched them grow up and become one of the very best live acts on the planet and the most successful Japanese band there has been internationally. They played 94 concerts last year in 25 countries last year, nearly all of them sold out.
BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocalist and the whole concept was formed and developed around her vocal talents and stage presence), Moametal and Momometal (in charge of backing vocals, harmonies and mainly hyping and involving the crowd with their choreo).
The backing vocals are the parts the crowd will sing along with and they are a huge part of what sets BABYMETAL apart from other bands.
The original third member, Yuimetal, last performed in October 2017 and was absent for 12 months for health reasons until she announced in October 2018 that she was still not fully recovered and would be leaving the band.
After Yui left Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo through to and a bit beyond their 10th anniversary. So it was just the two of them for 4 or 5 years supported from 2019 by 3 dancers who would take turns dancing in the third spot until 1st April 2023 when the last one of those dancers, Momoko, was finally revealed as the new official third member.
They are supported in all live shows by the Kami Band, all of them are world class instrumentalists. Since 2019 they have two Kami Bands, the Kami Band of the East (the best Japanese session musicians you could ask for) have been with them since 2012 and full time since early 2014. The Kami Band of the West (American musicians) joined them in 2019 and have been the full time support for the lengthier tours around the world (they played 94 concerts in 25 countries last year).
You will only see and hear the Kami Band in live performances, they do not record the studio versions (with one guitarist being the known exception).
Most live videos come from the DVDs which are filmed at their big arena concerts in Japan. They have some very elaborate stage designs with moving platforms, runways and so on, so the Kami Band will be on the main stage, but they don't always get a lot of camera time ... they are always there.
They do use backing track for extra instrumentals like synth, piano, strings etc plus additional vocals like screams and growls, but have no doubts about Su-metal's vocals being live, she is an amazing vocalist and sounds so much better live - the studio recordings (in the first two or three albums in particular) over-processed and compressed the vocals.
They have nearly 70 songs now, each one different to the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre, but they will mix and blend so many other musical styles and genres with the metal - usually when you least expect it. They will even mix musical styles from around the world with the metal and they have songs that pay homage to some of those including India, the middle east, Latin music, eastern/northern Europe and Thailand - and a couple of very Japanese songs of course.
Their official videos are all very good and worth seeing, but they are one of the best live bands on the planet, that is where they are really at their best. jakemuller8626 has left you a great list of suggestions for more reactions below.

great reaction! BABYMETAL is a group that combines jpop and heavy metal. Please listen to BABYMETAL again🤘🦊🎸
Some people say heavy metal doesn't need dancing, but I'm glad you guys say the choreography is good too.

This song is from their concept album, so it's a little more serious and less kawaii (cute) than their normal stuff, still really good. Get ready for a journey as all their songs are different styles of metal, blended with j-pop. You mentioned checking out their MV, they def. have some good ones, but BM is at their best live, and all their songs have unique choreography. suggest checking out:

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。BABYMETAL show is sheer "theaterical". It is a kind of composite art like Opera. Songwriting, choreography, stage setup and production, instrumental playing are created by experts and then Su-Metal, Moametal and Momometal come in. Everything is prepared for the prima donnas who are able to breathe artistry into the riveting stage with Kami Band in front of the audience. In addition, the natural, hearty and exhilarating personality of each girl is captivating.

Just when you think it's impossible to love these girls AND THE KAMI BAND EQUALLY more, they surprise you once again.
Jeez, simply spectacular. Long live BabyMetal

They've been around for 14 years already and the girls in their twenty right now, so just imagine how young they are when their band started. In that case, let's check out some of their earlier stuff to get a good understanding about Babymetal. My recommendation is "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" (2015), this particular performances representing Babymetal very well, including the girls (vocal & coreography), the band behind them (which named as Kami Band *Kami means God in japanese), the stage production and how powerful their crowd control are.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐
Always cool to see more reactors getting into this amazing group like nothing you have ever seen before, they're the reason why you know a lot of new Japanese female bands and group after 2010, there was a before and after when BM kicked the doors of the music scene internationally.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 21 and is the new official member since April 1st last year.
-YuiMetal- scream and dance, former member since 2018.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
    About this song:
Divine Attack - Shingeki was the 1st single out of five released in October 2022, part of the new album "The Other One" released later in March 2023 and is totally a banger. SuMetal got the lyrics credits on this for the first time and all of us are proud and happy she reached one of her dreams. She totally rocks!❤️
    Here's some official info:
    Divine Attack - Shingeki (CAVALRY)
    _The time has come._
_Trascending many barriers and creating many legends, where will BABYMETAL head next? The power and dynamism of the song depicts a cavalry preparing for their future battle._
"Divine Attack - Shingeki" got some drum&bass combined with the heavy riffs of metal sound.
They're giving us a new lore and a metalverse with 10 different worlds and songs that are connected in this concept album.
We can say that this song carry the spirit and message of songs like Road Of Resistance but this is more like a call to arms and fight for your future.
This footage was taken from BabyMetal Begins - The Other One Clear Night, PIA Arena MM, Yokohama in April 2nd, the Black Night took place in April 1st and you can see that clip in MAYA official live MV. This was the first night with MomoMetal as the new official member, the night prior to this they're wearing the old battle dress from Metal Galaxy era while in this you can see them with the new iridiscent costume. MomoMetal (Momoko Okazaki) was one of the three avengers (or backup dancers part of the lore) since 2019. We're all proud of MomoMetal being finally part of this group.
The backing band you saw are called the Kami Band, they were send by the Fox God to help the girls with the metal sound, they only play live and aren't official members, during early era they used to have a Japanese set of musicians but prior to this when they started to perform live they got a fake band called "baby-bones" (you'll see them in the Gimme Chocolate MV and many more live performance before 2013 mainly), later in 2019 they incorporate a new set of western musicians when doing live tour and they were part of this concert and clip you just saw as well the whole World Tour 2023, we called them Western Kami Band.
There is an official visualizer with the album studio sound released the same day in October and you can see only the two of them back then, these new shows on DVD/BD they're promoting are part of this historical event when MomoMetal was crowned as the third official member.
    Next suggestion:
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official MV (2015)
I'm gonna try to leave in my next comment where to get more clips from early era safe to react if YT allows me to do it, meanwhile don't worry about new album official clips, you won't get any blocked from them.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      th-cam.com/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/w-d-xo.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      th-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/w-d-xo.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/w-d-xo.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      th-cam.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/w-d-xo.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      th-cam.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/w-d-xo.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/w-d-xo.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      th-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/w-d-xo.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      th-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/w-d-xo.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      th-cam.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/w-d-xo.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      th-cam.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/w-d-xo.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      th-cam.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/w-d-xo.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      th-cam.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/w-d-xo.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/w-d-xo.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      th-cam.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/w-d-xo.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official live MV, be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      th-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GHjAqEdHM0gUDRk7
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      th-cam.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/w-d-xo.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      th-cam.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/w-d-xo.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      th-cam.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/w-d-xo.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      th-cam.com/video/gDne0xwniTg/w-d-xo.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.

Nice reaction, and welcome to the foxhole . The Shows they do in Japan are spectacular the Band are on display, but depending on the set up sometimes hard to spot on video as it concentrates on BabyMetal. If you actually at the show you will see them .
When they are on tour, the Band are right with them .
The girls in the middle and musicians either side normally 2 each side .
BabyMetals, i would not describe as mainstream not really known outside the metsl/idol scene. You find they virtually unknown been around 14 years, and you heard through your comments section .
Won many awards in metal publications, the best live band being one of them and Su number one metal singer recently and Metal Goddess twice while still in her teens .
If you want to see how good they were in their teens, try
Road of Resistance live in Japan or a more recent performance of Road of Resistance at PIA Arena clear night or Megitsune at PIA Arena, their most performed song or Light and Darkness
In fact, any song is worth watching. There is none i dislike 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Always enjoy your reactions and glad to see you doing Babymetal. They are unique and fascinating both on a musical level and also how they developed as a band. As mentioned they have been around for 14 years now and started when they were very young. They do have a very, very good live band. You didn't see them much in this video (and that is one complaint, that the band is not shown that much in the videos) and the logistics of Babymetal shows (moving stages, pyro, complex lighting) means they are often set apart from the ladies. Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) is the lead singer and she is indeed fantastic. They do use track for orchestral instruments and some of the growls and screams (although Su and Momo can scream) but there is always a live band providing the main musical elements. The band is actually made up of American and Canadian musicians from the bands Galactic Empires and Shadow of Intent.

Hey guys, great first reaction! Babymetal is an amazing live performance band who started in 2010 at the age of 12/11.
Producer Koba-metal wanted to jump start a dying metal scene in Japan, so he fused popular J-pop Idol music with heavy metal, hence the dichotomy. They grew organically from minimal funding despite being “manufactured”.
Today, these gals are major industry veterans, who’s done 9+ years of world tours and has collaborated / performed on stage with artists such as Bring Me the Horizon, Tom Morello, Rob Halford, Dragonforce, Joakim of Sabaton, etc.
Their band, the Kami Band always backs them live (fully since 2014). Instruments outside of 2 guitars, bass, and drums are tracked.
Su-metal is lead, and Moametal & Momometal are backup vocals/dancers.
Other suggestions to give you a solid sample of their range:
*Road of Resistance (Pia Arena MM):* Same Apr 2023 concert as this reaction, but an even more epic power metal anthem. Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce co-wrote guitars.
*Metali (Official Live):* Fun Japanese festival song, features Tom Morello on guitar solos.
*Headbanger (Legend 1997 concert):* Quintessential early Babymetal from 2013’s show celebrating Su-metal’s 16th birthday.
*Catch Me If You Can (Budokan 2014):* Brutally adorable song about hide and seek, and a sweet band intro.
*Monochrome (Pia Arena MM):* Also from show, a melodic hard rock song with heavy metal elements.
Look forward to more Babymetal!! 🤘🦊

Great reaction! Su-metal, the main singer, is 26 now. Would you believe that they have been doing this for 13 years? So naturally, their sound has changed a bit, but they have always played with the juxtaposition of heavy music and clean vocals, and fusing Metal with other musical genres. And amazingly, their unique sound is still as fresh as it was back then. There are more playful songs and more straight-forward songs, but it's always interesting and entertaining. To be honest, I now feel like there's something missing when I watch other bands. I have never had that much fun with any band before.
I think an interesting next stop would be the song Megitsune. It's one of their earliest releases and very different from what you have just seen, but I'm pretty sure you'll find it equally fascinating.

  • @laborpn
    @laborpn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

Thanks for the reaction. I hope you explore more Babymetal - they have a deep and diverse catalogue and many spectacular live performances, which is where they really shine. If one performance or song doesn’t do it for you, there’s always another one with a different vibe to check out.
While their live performances are epic, you could check out one of their newer official videos such as Metali, or their most recent joint song with F Hero and Bodyslam - “Leave it all Behind”. You could also try a classic video such as Karate, Megitsune, or BxMxC.
You can also see some additional recent live performances from their PIA arena show which is really good.
If you indicate the type of thing you’d like to see next, the fandom will give you lots of suggestions. Babymetal is positive and healing - glad you picked up on that.🤘🦊

In 2014 Babymetal performed at the Sonisphere Festival in the UK. They turned British metal upside-down. Their band merchandise outsold all of the major metal bands at the festival.
Also they broke open the door for Japanese rock/metal bands to tour the US and Europe. First Band to follow - Band Maid!!
They began their dance, singing and acting training when they were 6yo!
I suggest NEXT - Headbanger, Legend of 1997, in 2013. Su's 16th birthday was the day before; Yui and Mao were 14 yo!!
    Babymetal was formed in 2010.

Gentlemen that was a fantastic commentary and reaction. This was a beautiful first take on a band with far more history than you'd most likely guess from looking at them. These young women are hard working, serious, seasoned pros. The genre of metal they are playing was created for them and is called Kawaii or "cute" metal. They in many ways are responsible for the great increase in interest for especially female metal bands from Japan. BM have paved the road for many. The lead singer Su aka Sumetal was recognized at an early age (9) as having already a charisma and power to her voice that eventually lead to the formation of Babymetal. The three OG's Su, Moa and Yui were performing with incredible stage presence at 15,13 & 13 respectively. These early performances are all available. That said I'm personally so glad you opted for this much more recent performance at full three lady strength (that's a whole other part of the story). Both your thoughts and observations were so well expressed I would love to see you-and for your own enjoyment-react to more Babymetal. Two last thoughts be aware the Babymetal experience can be strangely addictive and though BM have produced some wonderfully produced mvs they are legendary as a live band. As such many of us feel that to get the best, fullest experience of Babymetal is to watch them live. I'm going to recommend one of their classic songs played at this same concert venue that demonstrates their power and their incredible audience interaction (link follows): Road of Resistance Live at PIA Arena, Clear Night 2023 th-cam.com/video/XpGRYhY897E/w-d-xo.html

Good reactions. I am very happy to hear the feedback on the choreography because it is a little rare to hear it.
Their dance choreography is not just about dancing coolly to the music. (Not that I'm denying that).
All of the choreography has meaning, so that even those who do not understand Japanese can feel the meaning of the lyrics and the worldview.
    Their dance is the language.

Babymetal is basically the reason the Japanese metal/rock scene broke open in the West. Formed in 2010 when the girls were 13 & 11 years old they were put together to blend the J-pop idol culture with heavy metal. They went viral in 2014 and that lead to a lot of people discovering not only them but the whole scene of predominantly female led J-Rock/Metal. They also proved to music labels that women led hard rock bands can sell and that pushed the scene a lot to where it is today. It's weird to say that at such a young age they are legends and considered integral members to the genre, and even created their own sub-genre, Kawaii Metal. They also were an influence on creating a look that is meant to clash with the sound you're hearing. They have fans throughout the scene there and across the world such as Rob Zombie, Corey Taylor, Bring Me the Horizon (who they collaborated with), and also Saki from Nemophila is a huge fan. Nemophila has a great cover on their song Megitsune and it's great to see them all decked out in Babymetal gear. Hope to see you do more.

A large number of their official MV's are live video with the studio audio overlaid. They do, of course, perform live and there are some official live MV. There are several MV that feature the girls that are filmed apart from a live performance. In addition to having some story woven in, the girls generally perform the same choreography as for the live performance. These are most especially: Ijime, Dame, Zettai; Megitsune; Karate. There is bespoke choreography for each song (except one which has never been performed live) and their choreographer is MIKIKO, one of Japan's best.
As I mentioned Babymetal do perform live. And with a live backing band (called kamiband) starting in 2012 becoming full-time as of 2014. The kamiband is always 2 guitars, bass, and drums. The remaing instrumentation will be on a backing track. The kamiband is a session band and the members do change in and out with many being regulars. Studio musicians are largely uncredited.
Interesting commentary by both of you. Please do react to more Babymetal. I'll return for it.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
Well, as you can see, they are not the typical metal band. And for many reasons aside the more obvious. But, at this point, you need to know that they are backed by a live Band called Kami Band, they are incredibly good live, as you can see on this big format show, although they are also great on smaller venues when touring in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia (you are from Australia, right?). And they are very diverse musically since they like to mix any music genre with metal. Sometimes in very surprising ways.
"Divine Attack" was the first single of their latest album, The Other ONE, released last year. And it's a great introduction to them. Well structured, with come cool features like the drum n' bas sections, some heavy riffing, an orchestral touch, a smooth drive and Su-metal amazing vocals, of course. Their lyrics tend to be positive and uplifting and this time, Su-metal is credited for them.
I expect to see you again with more BABYMETAL so, enjoy your journey!

Excellent reaction, and not just because you liked the song.
A lot of first time reactors don't have a let's wait and see attitude you have, they just trot out a string of assumptions as if they were facts, mostly harmless but sometimes unfairly negative and inaccurate that context would clear up quickly. It gets tiring especially after the band/group have been around for over 13 years.
To try to put a definite label on babymetal is folly, because they themselves don't like being put into a box. Even fans struggle describing them sometimes as Babymetal are not 'just' any one thing. Babymetal can be two things equally at one on multiple different levels. They defy the definitions of a typical idol band as much as they defy the definitions of a typical metal band. They purposely defied the kawaii-metal label on their last album and they even did in an almost all EDM track on their last album just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons.
Also they are as dynamic on a small stage in broad daylight as they are on a massive stage with a lightshow.
Good to see thoughtful reactions. Subbed.

Yes, we do try to stress that, especially with first-time reactions to bands/artists, we know nothing about them, so we try not to make unnecessary assumptions and remain honest rather than try to induce a reaction from the audience as some do when trying to be "controversial". We look forward to delving deeper into BM's work, they are definitely talented and intriguing.

A bit of history about this song to provide a bit more context and emotional power to what is already a great standalone song about courage. As others have clarified already about Babymetal’s history up till this point with the context of this performance. About 6 or 7 years ago one of the founding members of the group, Yuimetal, unfortunately had to leave the group and at the same time, one of their original guitarists of the Kami band, Mikio Fujioka, passed away. Sense then Babymetal had been courageously fighting forward against the odds kicking ass but it was never the same for them leading all the way up to 2021 where they kicked off a grand performance celebrating their official 10th anniversary as a band and entering a hiatus away from the public eye. Now during that time many fans were worried this could be the end for Babymetal and it was confirmed in interviews last year that during this hiatus that was a consideration. Understandably they have been through a lot becoming essentially global child stars by happenstance and to lose so much at what was scene at the time as the peek of their “Metal Resistance” (career). I imagine the stress was a lot for them. But they made the decision that they wanted to continue on with this and leading into 2023 announcing a new member, undergoing a “rebirth” of the bands identity, and declaring to the world that they are continuing their war stronger than ever; this song and performance (being one of the last songs of the event) is pretty much a battle cry Sumetal along with her side kicks, Moametal and Momometal, are raising to rally their army (the fanbase, who are “The One”) to take up arms for the Metal Resistance once again. It makes for a pretty emotional experience knowing Babymetal strive to make the world a better place with their music and have changed so many of our lives. This song reflects an almost melancholic yet triumphant cavalry charge across a war torn wasteland towards certain victory with reckless abandon. I may sound dramatic, but that’s the beating heart of Babymetal’s music for me.

Welcome to the Foxhole and the wonderful world of happy metal that is BABYMETAL! 🤘🦊🤘
Most of the truly important information has been or will be given in other comments, so I like to give the fun titles and nicknames given by The ONE (Babymetal’s Fan-base) as well as other (un)important information.
BABYMETAL started in 2010 as an experimental sub-unit of the larger JPop/JRock group Sakura Gakuin.
    Babymetal are:
Suzuka Nakamoto\Su-Metal (Vocals and Dance): Angel of Song, Queen Su, Queen of Kawaii, Metal Queen, and Metal Goddess.
Before Sakura Gakuin, she performed in a stage production of "The Adventurers" and was a member of the JPop trio, Karen Girls.
Fun Fact: Bullfrogs are her Kryptonite
Yui Mizuno\Yuimetal (Scream and Dance) Left the group in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues: Angel of Dance, Princess Yui, Yui-bot, Tomato Princess, Tomato-Kun, Kawaii Princess and Devourer of Souls (or at least she stares into your soul). Yui had a minor role as a child actor in a Japanese TV Drama before joining Sakura Gakuin. She has cute, chubby cheeks.
Fun Fact: Yui is tickled by Bullfrogs.
** WARNING ** Do NOT, ever, under any circumstances call her “small”, "smol", “short” or “tiny” (same rule applies to Moametal).
Moa Kikuchi\Moametal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Love\Smile, Queen of Hearts, Princess Moa, Kawaii Princess, Super Moa-chan, Maiden of Mischief, and Headmistress of Hedabon. She has huge dimples and a smile that melts the hardest of hearts.
Fun Fact: Loves to troll Su-metal on-stage with little pranks as well as torment Su-metal with Bullfrogs.
Momoko Okazaki\Momometal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Joy, Kawaii Princess, Princess Peach, Momo-Monster, Vampire Slayer, Kabuki Queen. Also a Sakura Gakuin graduate. Was a contestant on the Korean reality survival program "Girls Planet 999" (which thankfully for The ONE, she was eliminated from early on) and performed in a stage musical production of "Black Butler". Momoko was the only “Avenger” (see below) to perform in the “10 BABYMETAL Budokan” shows in 2021 and was officially named Momometal and made a permanent member in April 2023. She deserves the spot!
Fun Fact: Momoko's father is a popular comedian in Japan known for making dead-pan jokes. Momoko worked very hard to make her way without using his name as a crutch.
BLACK BABYMETAL: Yuimetal and Moametal performing as a duet while Su-metal takes a breather. Also known as “MoiMoi”. There are 4 BBM songs (GJ!, Onedari Daiskusen, 4 No Uta\Song 4, and Sis. Anger) some of which Moametal performed solo a few times after Yui's departure. Now that Momometal is a member, we are hoping for more BBM songs with MoMoa! But only the Fox God knows.
AVENGERS: 3 Dancers who took turns performing the choreography in Yuimetal’s spot after her departure. They were not official members did not have microphones and were not even named. It was the fans who quickly figured out who they were and you will see them in live performances between 2018 and 2021.
    They were:
    Momoko Okazaki (see above).
Riho Sayashi: Suzuka’s former rival at Actors School Hiroshima, often competing for the same roles. Former “Ultimate Ace” of the JPop Idol group Morning Musume. Now a solo artist.
Kano Fujihara: Former Member of Sakura Gakuin, the school-aged Idol group that BABYMETAL was born out of. Like Suzuka and Moa before her, Kano was Student Council President her last year in Sakura Gakuin and like Yui, was considered arguably the best dancer in SG during her time there. She is now a member of the Idol group @onefive, which is comprised of 4 Sakura Gakuin graduates (Kano, Momo, Soyo and Gumi). Kano only performed with BABYMETAL in Japan as she could not travel, likely due to her commitments to Sakura Gakuin and the then developing @onefive.
    We are #notacult.

Re. the choreography it is pretty much unique - this group made their own genre and after 13 years (from about 11 and 13 years old?)are still at the top of their game - EVERY trrack sounds unique. They ARE a live band primarily - and yes - it's always a performance/show - always very positive too. They've also revitalised the Japanese metal scene I think - with many metal and female bands springing up in the last few years. OH - if you do check them out more it's often worth avoiding the "official live" videos and find the ones with intros - which official tend to chop out.

Hi guys, great reaction. As a devoted fan of the more conventional Japanese female led bands (Lovebites, Band-Maid etc), I was initially a bit skeptical of the Babymetal "construct". I am now a convert and I saw them live in Sydney last June. Playing to about a 5K crowd in the venerable Hordern Pavilion, this was obviously nowhere on the scale of their epic arena concerts in Japan, but even as a cut down production, it was one of the best live shows I've seen in years, and certainly the most fun. And I'm old enough to say that my first live concert at the Hordern many decades ago was Jethro Tull! 😅
Babymetal have matured in both years and musical style and now have serious cred in the metal world, collaborating with heavyweights like Rob Halford, Tom Morello and Bring Me the Horizon.
If you come back to them at some stage, check out Monochrome, live at Pia arena. A somewhat darker song which references the Hiroshima bombing, it takes on added significance because Su grew up in Hiroshima. This version also takes drone photography of arena concerts to a new level (literally!) with some scenes which are truly jaw dropping. Cheers.

You'll get plenty of information about the band from other commenters, but I've always been interested in the connecting strands in the Japanese music scene. A few connections to bands you've reacted to: KOBAMETAL, the producer of BABYMETAL, was influenced by the lore of SEIKIMA-II. SAKI, guitarist of Nemophila and Mary's Blood is a big fan of BABYMETAL and has done covers of BABYMETAL with both bands. Shiren, guitarist in Unlucky Morpheus, played as a member of the KAMI BAND in some very early shows. BabyMetal is a very divisive band in the metal world. Some self-appointed gatekeepers of metal are very dismissive of BabyMetal. In my opinion, Those "gatekeepers" are arrogant and just plain wrong. I am not a huge BabyMetal fan and they would not even be in my top 5 Japanese bands (they might make my top 10). That said, I would love to see them live in a large arena because I think they put on one of the best concert experiences of any band of any genre right now. They also deserve their popularity which they have maintained due to superior songs and a great lead vocalists in Suzuka. Without those two qualities, BabyMetal would not have lasted. Suzuka started singing heavy music when she was 13 or 14 years old. That is about the age most kids would gravitate toward metal. For all those who think Su is not really metal, I think she is now about as metal as anyone in the genre.

    • @Ryujin170

Actually traditional gatekeepers of Babymetal are becoming rarer as they are finding it harder to get support.
The words 'This isn't metal' are becoming rarer, as gatekeepers realize they had already lost the war back in 2014 (Sonisphere) and were just to slow and to realize.
'This isn't metal' now just sounds like 'The earth isn't a sphere' to most people now, and gets laughed at and is treat like the gaslighting it is when it appears.
Most of contempt and derision towards Babymetal now comes from some jealous fans of other Japanese female led bands, but they are a minority.

@@Ryujin170 My teen years and 20s were in the 1970s and 1980s - back in the time when people could like many different bands and many different musical genres. We loved sharing our band discoveries with others and we knew our friends would share their new bands with us. We had to rely on our friends and acquaintances plus good radio stations because there was no internet. The creation of the internet opened up the world and allowed us to discover new music faster and easier than ever before. The downside is that it made tribalism and group think easier and much, much larger. Of course, the goal of each tribe inevitably becomes the destruction of competing tribes, resulting in something as terrible as outright violence or something as frivolous as band fanbases sniping at each other. If gatekeepers of a particular tribe start becoming a dying breed, it is because that have started to eat their own.

Yes, BM are definitely metal, I (Itai) don't think that it could even be in question. It is a mix of genres, interweaving J-Pop and Metal, but that is still metal. I absolutely love the band and the intensity they play with. The girls mostly provide the J-Pop element, but the mix of Suzuka's voice with the intense play from the band is quite refreshing and actually adds intensity in my opinion. Her voice somehow pierces through, giving their sound an interesting edge. On first listen, I definitely liked what I heard and I'm looking forward to hearing more. As you know, we have no interest in "gatekeeping" as we don't consider ourselves to be "experts", so why would we ever try to keep people from enjoying what they enjoy, even if we didn't. Luckily, we enjoyed BM very much anyway!🙂

@@autohmae Cool, i guess it makes Babymetal outlaws LOL.
The people who run metal archives are not the metal overlords they think they are and their website is not an official metal holy book so their opinion on what is or isn't metal is irrelevant anyway.
In fact the thought of an official metal Bible or encyclopedia is an anathema to the wild, flexible and non-conformist spirit of metal itself. Rob Halford is a metal god and his opinion of them being the future of metal, is all the confirmation they ever needed.
To most people if they hear distorted metal guitars, it is metal. Gatekeepers and elitists consume and filter music through their egos. They put image before music, and judge music on how they think it makes them look. They believe they are more metal than thou, but are really less metal than everyone else for thinking it.
They need to remember, they go to sleep and dream of being famous metal stars, Babymetal go to sleep to take a rest from being one.
I still think the traditional gatekeeping of the 2010's is dying out after Babymetal's perceived comeback, and now being fueled mainly by Jealousy and competitiveness.

According to their fans Moa could nearly compete with her bigger sister but Moa doesn't like the hassle around the lead singer, she preferse to be a part of the song. In the Moment they usually use the Western Kamis, originally US Musicians that were hired for their European and US concerts. They perform in Masks, since the Guitarists and Base were originally parts of a Star Wars Band and the Drummer integrated into their style. The original Kami Band consisted of japanese Session musicians and they used originally White face paint till zhey were forced to switch to the US scheme. And they became simply to famous in their own right so the Kami Band West is now their standard Band.
And furthermore they attract their own audience about 40% female fans and all ages between 5 and 85. Not really the normal distribution in normal metal concerts. Originally they weremainly organised to wake the japanese metal scene that was mainly build around man who got older and older, but when they tried them out in Europe they got a big surprise. They were booked for a stage with an audience of 4.000 , but since their video give me chocolate went viral on TH-cam and Metallica gave a raving review about them to a magazine, Sonicsphere pushed them to the Main Stage. They were afraid that no one would come, but what they found were 75.000 people who waited on the main Acts like Slayer and Metallica that were quite shocked when 3 little japanese girls engeren the Stage. But they tried to react to callouts and when they were finished they all demanded We want more! Now they are the International most successful japanese Band. And have a 14 year career behind them. They lost one of their dancers in 2017, so they reformed in 2023 and made one of their guest dancers to the New Metal, so Momoko became Momo Metal. They are now 27, 25 and 21.
And they just shocked us they wrre all the rave with their Corona Collab Kingslayer, but F. Hero now Release a Collab of F. Hero x Bodyslam and Babymetal "Leave it all behind" that easily top Kingslayer as the perfekt Collab of three Bands.

No all other instruments are backing tracks. Originally they were part of an Idol project. And they didn't knew Metal at all " I am not quite sure about this since Su's father was a Metal Musician... Although we don't really know a lot about their real childhood. They only give Interviews in their costumes and there are very few pittoresken of them out of costume and in Japan they take the provacy rights serious. Originally there were a lot of worries how farvtheir agency controlled them but especially since they returned to Koba to create the New Babymetal even the last doubter had to realise that this is their will. In fact their costumes nowaday work in a manner that it is quite difficult to recognize them in public. So they are really their Armour and they are a big Inspiration for their female fans. Originally they were only speaking japanese, aftervtheir Fans started to follow them internationally in japanese they saw it as essential to do somethingvabout it. Songs got more and more english texts even in their japanese concerts always have to be in english and parts of theirvtexts in concerts are alwayscin the country language. This went now so far That Su harmonizes in Leave it all behind in Thai, since they are are considered Legends in Thailand.

No, they used in this performance as usual the Kami Band West. While theirvdresses as are also conservative as a favour for their female fans. They like it, when they visit in cosplay.

I am now very sorry for my earlier comment. Please accept my apologies. Having now watched/listened to more of your reactions, I completely disagree with myself!! You are very careful and skillful in your analyses. What was I thinking? And, if you can forgive me, I recommend you look into the person most responsible for the existence and success of BabyMetal: "KobaMetal".

Babymetal has great music. it’s Metal. can be hardcore Metal. But the singing part you have to get used to. it’s a bit Kpoppy for me.

Wow, I could only listen to about a minute of your commentary. You really know how to suck the life out of a song.

Seriously? You don't see the band? They literally showed multiple CLOSE UP shots of the band throughout the video, not to mention they are clearly visible in the long shots of the entire stage. Unbelievable.

They showed them briefly. Didn't really put any focus on them. We missed some on first viewing. We hope they put a bit more emphasis on them in other vids. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
