If I were the Chinese and decided that I had to act on Taiwan due to the Americans forcing such action, I think I would opt for blockade rather than invasion. Why take the risk of invasion or the need to defeat the US Navy in deeper waters, when I could simply starve Taiwan out in 60 days and turn off the SC industry without damaging it. My task in a blockade becomes simple area denial without the need to directly initiate hostilities and with a reasonable hope of keeping the fight close in to the Chinese mainland. I could simply assert my rights of sovereignty over Taiwan which America in theory recognizes - understanding of course - that of course the Americans dont recognize Chinese sovereignty despite what the State Dept website says.

Why AUKUS is concern about PRC? If they are away from Asia as follows: UK is approx. 11,000km, US is approx. 9,900km & AUS is approx. 7,500km away from Asia. Furthermore, Formosa (now Taiwan) was abandoned by their allies in 1972 when it was agreed by all AUKUS members with one China policy. Based on that these countries does not recognise the Republic of China (ROC) as a sovereign state and does not regard the authorities in Taiwan as having the status of a national government. Therefore, the sale of arms to Taiwan and intention to intimidate PRC with this alliance is not justified. Furthermore, there is not UN resolution to support AUKUS or request from the ASEAN Countries. Should be a different reason to build a strong army around Asia knowing that there are > 120 Bases & ports in Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Malaysia.
