We got lucky with weather windows this month, as otherwise it was blowing 30-35knots in the North Sea. Maalie is a tank and took everything we threw at her! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
Exactly, then turn the engine over , the added advantage being diesel is hydroscopic and removes any water inside the engine. As I said earlier we used this as a standard flush for engines that had suffered immersion/ freezing after a rebuild. You have a good channel going here , keep it real 👍
This makes alot of sense, thanks very much for sharing it - I will work this into our normal servicing. If I have any engine questions I might ask in the videos/look for your name in the comments - hope that's OK! Much appreciated for following along, cheers!
Playing catch-up, great footage. Did Edinburgh to Greenwich on a square rigger in ‘88 with some Craigmiller kids, I thought I knew quite a bit about sailing before that!!
Hey Joe and Selene Good to see you both again doing so well into your epic journey. Super chuffed when I saw a new video up again Safe onwards sailing and have a wonderful time discovering plenty more sights n sounds👌👍
Hey Richard, cheers for following along the journey! Lots of big passage vids to come out soon, looking forward to releasing them. Hope spring has arrived in Skeld!
Just found your channel. I did the same passage, Peterhead - Blyth - Scarborough - Lowestoft, Dover then west to Plymouth in 2021. Departing Peterhead in to a 6 metre swell was interesting, but with a northerly wind and sailing south with the tide we made some great passage times. The 'clubhouse' at Blyth was stunning.
Exiting Peterhead harbour with a 6m swell must have been spicy! It's a great run down to Blyth though, we had a cracking sail. We would have done the same and tied up in Dover but the big front that came in stopped us at Ramsgate. Thanks for stopping by and commenting 👍🏼
Another great video. It looks like you were hit with the same chain of storms that kept us stuck in Cork for a while last Summer. Looking forward to seeing the vlogs of your voyages west across the Ocean. Ron and Clare from Kerrin II.
Hey Ron, great to meet you in Eastbourne and chat all things Hebridean and schengen, thanks again for all the tips and coffee! Yes, the windows of opportunity between the passing lows were small so we had to sail hard down the East Coast. Much more relaxed by the time we got to IOW. All the best!
A round about... in the sea! hahaha Looking good gang! loved the cut out out to the otherside of the alantic looking very smug about not being in england any more
Ah I see what you mean, the bulkheads. We much prefer this layout as it creates a more open space in what is quite a small interior. Plus, a decent handhold for when a sea is running. Cheers
Aha where do you hail from in Scotland? Some awesome cruising ground you've got down there! Aye the Hebridean is a tank, what stage of the build are you at? :)
@@sailingmaalie I’m from a horrbile little place called Hamilton. The sailing down here is allot nicer than strathclyde park but I do miss the western isles I’ve just finished my initial assembly so time to pull it all apart and prep it for final assembly. Enjoying your videos keep it up!
Some of the finest cruising we've experienced was on the west coast, spent about 5 yrs there in various smaller boats before finding this one. A tip about the wind vane - there is a section of threaded rod that comes out of the carbon fibre push rod (bottom end). Leave an extra 10-15mm on this piece, as it allows for extra adjustment of the pendulum if required. Hope that makes sense!
When you say "twin reef in the Genoa" do you mean two full turns or something else? What boat is it? I take it you bought 2 impellers so you have a spare , some silicone grease is good when fitting a new one but once the water is there its fine.
Generally when we reef, we match the sail areas. So 2 reefs in the genoa would make the head of the genoa the same height as the main with 2 reefs. Does that make sense? And yes, spare impellers now on board! This still turned out to not be this issue, as the problems persisted on future passages
Twin main sheet? There when you got her, or did you install? I’m in a R36, currently with a knackered old traveller and keep seeing twin systems and they are giving me pause for thought…..do you like it?
We added a 2nd mainsheet to allow us to use our new spray hood 'cockpit cover' whilst sailing. There's a snap shackle on the bottom of main sheet fiddle block, which attaches to a big dyneema soft shackle on a coaming cleat. This way its very easy to remove when we don't need it. In terms of sail trim it's fantastic, much more control than a single mainsheet. The 'windward' mainsheet acts like the traveller, whilst the leeward mainsheet controls leech tension. We'll do a boat tour vid soon with details, otherwise there is more footage in our North Sea crossing vids. Hope that makes sense! Cheers
Great footage of some sporty sailing - and always nice to see a proper boat out doing proper sailing 😎

Thanks both. Enjoyed that, and all your videos, lots.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, glad you are enjoying the series :)
What an awesome sail!
It was! Hard won miles but so satisfying to get to the white cliffs of the south coast, between frrquent summer low pressures. 🌊
Good luck and Windows, great sailing .🎉😊
Thanks alot! All the best ⛵️🌊
Epic! Thank you for taking us along and all the work on production. Fantastic and all the best to the pair o ye.
Cheers Mark, really enjoying the process! After these vids the sound should be better as sorted out some dead cat thingys
@@sailingmaalie Aye, the dead ones work surprisingly well. The live ones not so much. 😂
🤣
By all means ask away 👍
Well done!
Cheers Chris! The North Sea didn't disappoint 💨😁
Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Just found you on TH-cam, sitting here, landlocked, in Colorado Springs CO.
Thanks for dropping by! Just checked the map, you are FAR from the sea! Feel free to subscribe, lots of sea content coming up 🌊

Hello from a fellow Scotsman living in South Australia. Noticed you have a Hebridean on the back there. I’m currently building one.

is it your heat exchanger that is blocked? I had that once. Full dismantled and blow out tubes with air
Thankfully not, although it would definitely be worthwhile tackling this job.
Flush the engine with diesel before adding your new oil. Always used diesel as a “ cutting “ oil post an engine rebuild. 😊
How would that work? Do you mean I should pour some diesel through the head to the sump, before adding fresh oil? Interesting!

No film in the camera for the 300 miles between Blyth and Lowestoft, I hate it when that happens.
I know, right.. There is some footage of the beach huts and urban Kittiwake nests in Lowestoft, but otherwise no decent footage from the navigation!
Ah, Blyth. Nice cool showers on the lightship brrr.
What a funky ship that is!

Ramsgate can be a bad for rolling, it was when we stayed there
Yup that's for sure, we were on a hammerhead too so quite exposed. Lots of spring lines to keep us from snatching too badly
