Merci beaucoup pour les encouragements!! Saint Malo est definitivement sur notre liste pour notre prochain passage en bretagne, j'avais adoré a mon dernier stage Glenans ⛵️
Can’t remember how I found you both! But lovely episodes. Just want to you… you touched on that “you haven’t anchored much down the English Channel” was that due to conditions and wind on nose? My partner and I are travelling to Scotland (east coast first) and then through Caledonian etc and hopefully finding some good spots to sling the hook? Anyway fair winds looking forward to seeing the next @writtingandsailing
Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated. We didn't find any suitable anchorages for the conditions really, especially down the Eastern English coastline. In more settled weather I'm sure we'd have found somewhere to tuck away and explore. There are certainly some Eastern Scotland sites for anchoring, best to get a CCC cruising guide and go from there. Where are you sailing over from? All the best
Fantastic voyage once again! The Channel must be a minefield of silly big boats. Well navigated. 👍 Excuse my ignorance, but how come no anchorages on the East Coast? Rules? Weather? Tides? State of the seabed? Dead cat works a treat. (Chuckled for a while at the prospect of a live one. If ye could get one to stay still it would just muffle the sound and give ye such a resentful look. 😂). Superb drone shots.
So many boats down there! There are some anchorages on the east coast, but they are few and far between, and exposed. On our southern leg we had lots of snotty weather so hid in marinas rather than being blasted by heavy winds. Only went for the dead cat option over a live one as we have no room for cat food on board. Next boat maybe?
We added a removable second mainsheet to use when we have the spray hood cover extension in place, basically on longer passages at higher latitudes 🌊⛵️
Is that a Hebridean wind vane self-steering? If so how do you find it? Considering one for our Rival 38 (although complicated as we are a centre cockpit with wheel steering).
Yes, what a machine! Works very well, tons of power. It can certainly be used with wheel steering just with a simple drum attachment, and I suppose with longer lines should be fine in centre cockpit? You will need to check the website though to see if it will work with the weight of R38, and the height of your transom. Cheers!
Go for it! It's a fantastic process start to finish, extremely satisfying to mount a self built wind vane on the transom. Don't underestimate the build though, it takes more than a few weekends. Let us know if we can help with any parts of the process 👍🏼
Cheers Adam, thanks for the feedback ! Bendy tripod came from a mobile repair shop in Dover, only cost a tenner. Not sure of the brand though, I'm afraid 👍🏼
Little adventure boat that actually sails vs posh boats that just sit!!😂
Ah so true! We actually caught some scoffs when we told folks we were going for the transatlantic. "What, in this?!" 🤣
@@sailingmaalie I'm sure that's what they said to Slocum!
Well done you two 👏
Hey Dirk, many thanks - some bigger passages coming up in the next videos 🌊⛵️
Hey Guys
Another great insight into your amazing adventures.
Stay safe and good sailing ⛵️
Great to have you on board with us Richard! 🌊⛵️
The dead cat seems to be effective. The sound was great as I sit here watching your adventure from the television in my kitchen.
Thanks for thr feedback! Hope you enjoyed it ⛵️
Maali looking sooo good against those white cliffs. Loving this episode. ❤
Thanks Ms 9345! Can't wait for our next adventure 🏔🏔
Wonderful guys. Keep going. I wish I had the time to head down South as well. But plans for this year are from Denmark to Stavanger end of May. Cheers

Awesome video's Maalie!
Great to watch your adventures ⛵ feel like I'm crew again! Minus the seasickness 😅
Maalie misses you! Although it's great to have the bucket back 🤣
Looks like you were at Osbourne Bay on the NE of IoW?
Yes that's the one, fantastic anchorage
Salut les jeunes. Très chouettes, votre voyage et vos vidéos. Au plaisir de vous croiser sur l'eau du côté de St Malo, si vous passez par là.

Sound quality is much better.
Disappointed that we didn't hear a declaration of "sporty sailing" though!
Thanks for the feedback, good to hear! Aha - I'll let Solene know 😁
Your new microphone is working really well. Thanks for the video. p.s. We need a video on how you guys met. 🙂
Hey, thanks for the feedback - glad it's working. Yes need to do a channel into and boat tour soon!
Beautiful yacht and loved the video. It doesn't look like a classic though? Is she a Twister?
Thanks very much! Maalie is a 1978 Rival 32, every bit a classic to us.. a plastic classic at least. 😁
Loving your channel mate. On my competent crew course next month . See if I like it ?
Thanks for the support, glad you're enjoying it! Have a blast on the course!

I see you’ve got two main sheets/ or one and a handy-billy. Is that to mitigate a lack of track? Or just for strong wind days?

@@sailingmaalie nice, good solution.

@@sailingmaalie brilliant. We think for the price it's worth having a go despite being at the larger end of the size of users.

Oh, and definitely go for the remote steering kit - makes course changing so simple.
@@sailingmaalie definitely need the remote steering with our centre cockpit, getting aft past the mizzen would be a pain.
Great video as always and sound much improved with dead cat! What is the new bendy tripod for mobile phone at 3:30?
