Great video. This is exactly what I want to do to my car. I love the DCC (Adaptive Suspension) so I didn’t want to lose that with coil overs. Just wanted a slightly lower ride mainly for looks and I love how your car turned out. Thanks for the good video!
Nice video, looks good! I am getting ready to do this on my 2019 with the H&R Sports. Going to attempt the 2x4 method to get the strut out so we'll see how that goes.
@@ColoredinLight Finally got around to installing these over the weekend...2x4 definitely helped a lot, didn't have to remove the axle bolts or ball joint. The passenger side seemed a little harder in general to do. driver side was a piece of cake. If you ever have to do any strut work again definitely recommend it though!
Glad I found your channel. I bought a 2017 GTI Autobahn less than a month ago and you are doing all of the things I have been thinking about. Anxious to hear your opinion on the springs after some driving.
Dope video and Playlist. As a new GTI Owner what are some best bang for buck tools to purchase in order to do at home modifying like this? Thanks again and you've got yourself a new subscriber.
I changed springs and struts/shocks on my Skoda Rapid which is essentially VW Polo Mk5 Sedan. It took me one and half days to do the front. Real pain in the ass because you can't get the struts out without fucking around for hours and it was equally painful getting them back in. All beacuse I did not want to dismantle everything. Rear? One and half... hours, both sides combined.
Always an interest when enthusiasts choose to lower the ride height w/o taking into account the other components that complement the drop (i.e. adjustable end links). It's great for a vehicle that is a dedicated to the track, but for street driving; lowering has it's future costs.
Could you possibly grab a part number off your springs (not the box, the actual spring) and let me know what it is? I bought one recently and it has H&R springs on it that I'm almost CERTAIN are not GTi sport springs and are instead for something like an Alltrack because they wanted to get lower. The box says the correct part number for the sport spring but the spring in the rear I can see the part number does not say the same thing and it instead has a number like 28840 which when you Google it...comes up closer to an Alltrack/Sportwagen part number (28840-4). I just want to make sure, they're coming off the car soon and will be sold but I want to know what they actually are haha. Looks great (as does your NC as usual), and I hope you can help. At least ONE of those springs has to be easy enough to see a part number on it without jacking it up haha. 🙏
With the dynamic suspension in comfort mode I drive around with the wife and baby just fine. At the end of the day, its going to make your suspension harder
I live in Newjersey and I want To lower my GTI but I’m not sure if it would be a bad for the snow. Even though we don’t get a lot of snow like other states, we might see 2 or 3 days during the winter of 4 to 6 inches of snow usually, my question is would I still be able to drive the GTI without getting stuck in the snow.
I just installed H&R springs on my Mk 7.5 and they were wobbly, like didn't fit at all in the front, the spring was literally loose on the struts, anyway I bought APR sport springs & they feel great, super sharp, a little less stiff than H&R but more stiff than stock. My bf installed the H&Rs on his A3 and they got perfect, do you have any explanation for why they wouldn't fit on my GTI but they fit great on his A3?
@@ColoredinLight was ride quality that bad on the springs? if i changed to bilstein shocks and struts meant for springs, you think that would be better?
Sir., I have Renault Fluence 2014 What do you think will be best for my car H&R or Eibach howver H&R drop front and rear both are 35mm while Eibach drop front 30mm / rear 25mm
Alignment needs to be done any time you mess with suspension. It wasn't too far off though. The ride leaves some to be desired. I'm ready for coilovers now.
This car is mainly meant as the daily driver. All I wanted was the small drop without the spend/functionality/ride quality of coilovers. The stock shocks will be fine
@@ColoredinLight just don't think I could handle the install myself. Probably will get it done though...but would rather save the extra cash on install.
@@KC-lg8qf I really want to do it also, I am getting new wheels but I feel like it isn't going to look right unless I also do some lowering springs. I have all the tools, but the install just seems daunting.
H&r really gives a nice drop. Maintains a comfortable ride too
15mm(front) 20mm(back) spacer will look awesome bro. great video!
Stay tuned!

Kw makes coilovers with dcc adapters
I'm planning on getting the KW stuff eventually.
@@ColoredinLight Would you recommend HR springs or EMD springs because I have DCC and dont want to lose it...

Hi, wich is this method 2x4?

Thanks for checking out the channel! Congrats on the new car, I've definitely been enjoying so far given the low amount of miles driven each week.
I can give you a good deal on new lowering springs, they're new, just need to use the money for maintenance
Great video dude! Very informative and detailed. Im getting these springs for my 19 GTI.
Looking forward to the follow up video 👌

Had no idea you had to remove that axle like that I thought you just needed to take off the axle nut.
You can just take the axel nut out. I don’t even take the axle off.

Los recomiendas ? Tengo un gti 2020 y quiero bajarlo en altura
When normally driving is the ride noticeably harsher/stiffer

same here in NJ. I figure if Im stuck lower an inch or inch and a half, id be stuck not lowered lol. and those 2 or 3 days aint worth NOT getting it
also live in NY area with trash roads. These random bumps and holes is making me second guess...
Add spacers bro front 12mm & rear 15mm
Done and done
I think the front would have been way easier to install if you had both sides off the ground and the sway bar wasn't loaded.
It absolutely would have been. I just had 0 room to do it in the garage

Hmm not sure on that. Maybe they sent the wrong springs?
Did you adjust your headlights after. They point to the ground after lowering.
Nah, they're all fine
Hey man did you struggle with the back when screwing the bolt in
The entire thing was a challenge lol
just got these for my 24 Autobahn, How long would you say the OEM shocks will last? I live in the DC area unfortunately so roads here arent the best
I love the look the springs gave me but I really wish I would have just bought coilovers first. That's all I'll say lol

@@ColoredinLight was ride quality that bad on the springs? if i changed to bilstein shocks and struts meant for springs, you think that would be better?
It's for sure bouncy now. With Bilsteins and spring you'll probably be ok since they're just better.
Are you on stock struts?
What tools did you use for all that ? May you give me the list pls
Dog leg wrenches, Ratchets, torx and triple square bits

Did you watch the video? The rears can’t be coil-overs. Watch at 7:00 mark...
Scott Sonnek do you even know what you are talking about ? Of course the rears can have coilovers ...
Just curious, did you have to torque anything with the suspension fully weighted like you do on a Miata?
I thought the same, checked all over the place and no one said anything about it
