I've seen seven decades of rock-and-roll, and I've never seen anything like them; And that lead singer, Suzuka, can be summed up in one word, greatness.
Great reaction - and very impressive to catch the Dream Theater feel almost immediately - that was no coincidence. The One' was the last song on the second album in 2016 (following straight on from 'Tales of the Destinies' which is their homage to Dream Theater's 'Dance of Eternity' - this song started life as part of that song but was separated quite early in the writing process). This was the version from the Japanese edition of the album, so it is the half and half English - Japanese version. The international edition has the full English version that the girls had challenged themselves to do as a mark of respect and appreciation to the foreign fans who they noticed had been learning Japanese to sing along with them as they toured the world. This is effectively their love letter to the fans (who they also named "THE ONE"). Being the official video this had the studio audio and of course you couldn't hear the crowd all singing along as you would in a live version. On The First Take when Momometal was revealed as the official third member last year, as part of that reveal they released an "unfinished" version ie it is stripped back with piano and strings only (also it is very much shortened having just the first verse). Legend S is possibly the best unfinished start going into the full version, Tokyo Dome had the extended full English version, Stairway to Living Legend probably the most emotional 'unfinished' version (a longer version of what they did on The First Take).
That song is for The One, showing Babymetals appreciation for their fans. They also made a version completely in English, since many fans learn their Japanese lyrics and they wanted to make a version that every English speaking fan can sing along to. Moa said in an interview that the hardest part of this performance was to follow the choreography since all she wanted to do is waving to the fans 😂 ❤ Originally the song was a one piece with “Tales of the Destinies” that’s why it has that Dreamtheater feel to it, but they decided to make it a separate song, just because lol. 🤘🔥🦊
3:32 Reaction start We are The One. Forever. Thanks for sharing this journey, now after hearing this song you can finally feel part of BM fandom if you really feel that way. Also this song got some Dream Theater vibes coz it was composed along with Tales Of The Destinies, a progressive metal song you already heard. See you next time 🦊🤘🔥
As I'm sure you know, "The One" is the name of Babymetal's fanbase, and this song is Babymetal's love letter to the fans. They recorded two versions of the song, one half in Japanese and half in English, and one all in English. It was the first time they had ever recorded a song all in English, but after traveling around the world and seeing fans in the west singing along with the Japanse lyrics, they realized that the fans were learning Japanese to be able to appreciate the lyrics more, so they wanted to reciprocate by singing a song for the fans in English. The Dream Theater sound is very much intentional. This song and Tales of the Destinies were originally one song that was created as a tribute to Dream Theater and the song "Dance of Eternities" in particular. When you get a chance, check out the "Stairway to Living Legend" version; the contrast in how it sounds now that Su's voice has matured is striking. It caused quite a stir when it was posted after 10 Babymetal Budokan, as many fans interpreted it as Babymetal saying goodbye. It caused such drama online that Koba had to issue a statement to say that Babymetal was not ending.
Great reaction, thanks! "The ONE" is considered a sort of spinoff from "Tales of the Destinies" since it originated as a development based on a certain melody of "TOTD". So, it's not crazy to relate this one to Dream Theater as well. I personally almost consider both two pieces of the same song. This official music video has the studio recording over some visuals from the Yokohama Arena 2015 show (The Final Chapter of Trilogy). So, don't expect crowd noise in the end. I always like to comment about the pyramid itself because it's so cool: it's suspended from the arena's bridge crane, wired and operated from the ground by nine people. Apart of the obvious railings, the pyramid has a life line in the center so, they were wearing climbing harnesses for sure. Even Su's mic has a wristband safety chord (it's not polite to end a kitsune by a mic fall). They took safety seriously here... after what happened the previous year at Budokan, I guess. 🤘🦊
this song and Tales of the destinies were originally one song as some say Koba's ode to Dream Theatre but they thought it was a bit too long so the split it in two and took each in a different direction but you can hear the theme in both, I believe Mike from Dream Theatre had positive things to say about Totd
This song and video are a perfect example for the BABYMETAL genius, in my opinion. The music, the lyrics, the visuals, the story behind it and the overall atmosphere all go hand in hand, it's a perfect match.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。One thing is certain. If you are acrophobic, you cannot be a member of BABYMETAL 😄. Two things. (1) Saki, an excellent shredding guitarist of Nemophila and a big BM fan, said in an interview "The One is so difficult that it is not a kind of song humans should play. It is, however, very cool and decently cute" [source: Japanese magazine Headbang vol.24 page 120] (2) Some people said this song was a little bit too repetitive. But in their live performance you feel as if the length of this song were only 30 seconds and want to listen to it forever. I witnessed it more than 10 times at venues. Whenever they performed this song, I saw divine beauty and heard angelic voices. Su's current matured and richer voice gives you different feeling, I guess. To me, this 2015 version sounds like a call to their fans and recent version sounds like embracing us all.
This song was originally part of Tales of the destinies BABYMETAL’s epic tribute to Dream Theater but is was to long so they split it in to two songs that end the Metal Resistance album. So the story goe’s anyway You should do Totd live at Tokyo Dome
You guys already reacted to Tales of the Destinies what closes with the melody of this song, the One follows right after that. That's why you know the melody😉
... a tribute to the fanbase -"THE ONE" ... yes, as a fan, this is emotional, ... always ... :) - ** side note- if you haven't noticed, ... the chorus of this song is the outro of "Tales of the Destinies"
Nice work guys. Such an epic performance. And if my memory serves me correctly this was the last performance Yui gave before health issues forced her to leave the band. Damn there was such a wonderful chemistry between the OG trio. That said I'm totally feeling the love for Momo and the joyous energy she brings to Babymetal. As one commenter I read once said "if you're in Babymetal you better not be scared of heights." Damn straight.
The live footage is from the Yokohama concert in December 2015, the official video was released to promote the Metal Resistance album. But you are right about The One being the last song Yui performed as it was the last song at the Big Fox festival in October 2017.
⚡ 💀 💕 /🔺 "The ONE" is their name for BABYMETAL fans. They were very happy that international fans made an effort to learn their songs, even though they are mostly in Japanese. To return the favor, they wrote this song, and dedicated it to the fandom. Even though this version has a lot of English, this is also the one official music video with subtitles. From what they said after the performance, the hardest part wasn't the height, it was to stick to the choreography instead of waving to the people in the crowd below. : ) Those two nights at Yokohama Arena in December 2015 were the final dates of the 2015 BABYMETAL World Tour. The video has the audio from the domestic (Japanese) release of the Metal Resistance album. The international release of the album has an entirely English version. Usually this song is performed in English, even in Japan. More recently they have been starting off with the softer piano based version, before adding guitars and drums.
it certainly does have a similar vibe as the first couple of movements of _6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence_ . and as for the "theatric" feel you mentioned , it's almost a _Star Wars_ or _Superman_ intro vibe (which, again, see _6 Degrees_ ). I seem to remember reading somewhere that _musically_ this was split off from the writing of _Tales of the Destinies_ (which was explicitly a DT tribute) ; so, again, ..... 🤷♂
Great reaction! This was Babymetal's tribute to their entire fan base. They even did a full english version for the overseas fans as they were touched by those fans learning Japanese to sing along when they were on tour. Your comment on Dream Theater is accurate. If you recall in a previous reaction for Tales of the Destinies, they did an homage to Dream Theater. When the song was made, it was a 2-parter, Tales of the Destinies was part 1, and this song, The ONE is part 2. There is an even more epic version of this song, but tough to find a good video for, and usually also gets copy-right blocked. That is the Legend-S, Baptism XX concert (Su's 20th birthday show). The ONE with an extended ballad intro, just amazing. If you ever get a chance, do check that out on your own! 🤘🦊
As you probably know, this song is dedicated to the fans, that it's addressed to each and every one of us, and that "The One" receives it as a personal message. We love Babymetal and Babymetal loves us 🤘🦊🤘
I think that the chorus resembles the slow opening section of the lead in Ozzy Osbourne's "No More Tears". Is that what you were thinking of? In any case, I think this is brilliant. Thanks for the reaction.
What is interesting about this track is that it was done in English first not Japanese. Su-Metal at the time wanted to give something back to the fans. She says the recording for this was very difficult. It was hard to really get all of the pronunciations spot on so it wasn't easy. Yet every time she thinks back to the fact that the fans abroad, outside of Japan. Would then come to their shows and they're singing along in Japanese. Which means everybody's studying it. So when she thinks about that, it gave her the motivation to really try hard. So to make sure she can really execute the English properly. From that point on Suzuka taught herself english in a little over two years. Which was impressive given that Japanese struggle with it normally. So she could conduct interviews in both english or Japanese when necessary. Which many Japanese bands don't even attempt. This has paid off and really allowed Babymetal to connect with their fans all over the world. In ways others haven’t but The One was where this all kinda started. It's an iconic performance and to think Su-Metal was but 16 here blows the mind. Great reaction BTW. 🤘🦊🔥
Unfortunately they don't use the same Kami band. After January of last year they use the west kami band and you can clearly hear the difference. This footage is from Yokohama 2015 with Kami members Mikio (RIP) *Left channel guitar, BOH - Bass, Hideki - Drums and Takayoshi * Right channel guitar. It was a 2 night event with Isao in for Takayoshi on guitar the other night.
It's a shame you watched this one, it's good but the Budokan performance of this song is far superior, not to mention Su sings it entirely in english! Also you get the live audio instead of the studio audio which was used for this music video. Great reaction though, glad you liked the song.
Saw on your Animals as Leaders video you're into hearing some good American acts out there... have you heard Seven Spires? They're a very "we went to music school" kind of band, lol. If you're looking for something with melodic vocals (and an EXTREMELY cheesy video) check out this one: th-cam.com/video/l10HOohy1Eo/w-d-xo.html Or if you'd prefer something with harsh vocals (and a video that's only slightly less cheesy), can't go wrong with this one: th-cam.com/video/_O7LUgm9JKw/w-d-xo.html Their magnum opus so far is probably this one: th-cam.com/video/x_oNGHqOxBU/w-d-xo.html - but unfortunately there's no video for it and they're not a big enough band to have any professionally shot live concert videos.
