I like the idea of paying 12k less for a used nearly new van however that doesn't happen. Infact they can be more expensive than new because they are available.
I am yet to hear of an even brand new MH not having faults. Some owners (usually new) to vanning will go into dealerships shouting the odds demanding this and that when something is wrong... the best thing anyone can do is to strike up a good relationship with the seller... I've looked around Oaktree, and if I was buying, they would be on my list of places to visit. Well done Darren, for sharing your tips on buying a MH 👍🍻
Keep driving past Oak Tree in my Del van and it keeps pulling towards the entrance ! One day though ? Their add boards on the round about aren’t positioned to their best viewing angle I’ve noticed
Daz talks about it briefly in a video last year, but he had only just got it and he didnt have the space to carry it until the new motorhome. He should be doing a long term review in the future - oh, and he's taking it to Europe.
I looked through the original video clip. He mentions the brand, but not the exact model. This was filmed in February, so phone ahead if you planned a trip to view it. 😎
Great description. Well described. Getting stuck up a Turkish mountain is a nightmare. There's a few people on TH-cam who've lost engine etc. You know who they are. I know it can happen with a brand new MH but more chance of major failures with a 10 year old. You didn't give many pros for new MH's so just adding one I thought of 😅😅😅
Daz's mahoosive Moho cost around your budget. I reckon you'll be golden. You might have to compromise with your island bed *and* a good sized garage. Often having access to the sides of the bed eats up your outside storage. 😎👍
A small coach built and a panel van could be a similar weight. Neither vehicle is aerodynamic! Consider having the extra space on a tour. Even the closest couples appreciate each having a quiet space from each other from time to time. 😊
What about all the diesel motor homes, with cities charging, like London expansion ULEZ ultra low emission zone, are diesels no longer desirable so will be dropping in price
Dazza love you channel mate really jealous you have no longer got your normal 9to5 so to speak I know you worked shifts, and now get to drive the length of the Uk and Europe. I’m really interested in getting a motor home but more so a van conversion as it will be more of a get up and go with the kids. Would you be able to do some videos on van conversions and your opinions on layouts, electrical, plumbing etc.
Maybe you've already rejected the idea of a self-built? I'm the odd one out of #TeamUrban. I've lived in my van for a long time now. Daz sold his old 2004 motorhome for less than your current budget. If your not buying off the forecourt, make sure it's mechanically sound. Mileage isn't always a reflection of how well it has been looked after. Befriend a trustworthy mechanic. 😆 Learn from my fails.
We bought new, new engine, running gear, tyres, warranty included. We had some snags, floor needed fixing took 3 weeks , van now can sell for more than we paid.
All true Same with cars isn’t it, I always buy a second hand car with all the bells and whistles rather than a brand new car with basic spec, makes sense
I get the links to oak tree but I thought you’d be reviewing different motorhomes for sale with them. This comes across strongly like you’re giving the worst case scenario for buying new or private and just pushing Oaktree. That’s not a knock against them or you but it just comes across as an advert rather than the usual Daz content. Only my opinion not a swipe at anyone
in my personal opinion if it is a Hymer motorhome you are wanting to buy as we all no they are the leading brand but buy secondhand pre-2018 models as they were built by technicians after they were built by accountants as Hymer sold out in 2018 and the quality of there motorhomes are no way as good quality as before 2018
The extortionate prices now being ask by the Trade is crippling seconhand sales of Motorhomes in the private market. There is absolutely no evidence to justify the average £10K increase to the secondhand Van.
Very informative Daz, although being lucky enough to own a Burstner travel van already - I won't entertain the ridiculous second hand values right now and will wait for values to come down in which they will !
I have to disagree. I don't think prices will come down (deflation) because they never do. The rate of increase will slow down (lower inflation). I think we may see the manufacturers increase prices by less next year but do you really think next years brand new Swift KonTiki 669 is going to be cheaper than this year? The manufacturers set the prices of new motorhomes which then trickles down through the used market.
I imagine the new road tax regime must be having a huge detrimental effect on the whole industry of new vehicles as I understand the government have reclassified campervans and motorhomes now under the category of luxury vehicles and raised the tax by 700%!
The "no VAT" argument on secondhand vehicles is utter nonsense and regularly spouted to mislead by used car salesmen. It is correct there is no VAT on used vehicle sales, but the cost of the VAT is always priced into the used valuation. For example a £96k motorhome would have been subject to £16k VAT when new, that doesn't mean if it's sold shortly after as 'nearly new' it immediately becomes £80k or less as there is no VAT on the value, you would likely find it was around the £90k mark or even near list if it was in demand.
Sorry but this sounded like a sales pitch for a second hand motorhome dealer and in the current market VAT on a new MH or van compared to buying second hand doesn't matter as a lot of stock is selling for more than it was when new.
I wouldn’t call this pros & cons of 2nd hand motorhomes. As you are now employed by a 2nd hand motorhome firm , this vid is 99% pro used motorhomes and heavily biased in that direction. Before you chose to work in the business your opinion wasn’t motivated one way or the other and that is what we liked, but now how can we tell if it’s not your job you are thinking about when giving reviews.
It's cool. Daz has been a paying customer at OakTree (visits for electrics, new batteries, many repairs) and has been singing their praises for years on this channel. He even bought his own *2nd hand* motorhome from them. 😎👍
@@TheUrbanMotorhome I used to sell second hand cars VAT registered. Ive very well versed on the VAT margin scheme. I mean your explanation is just miles off track. But hey ho no one will be using this video as financial advice.
True, the cost of used is relative to new prices irrespective of where it goes. And if original purchaser was VAT registered and claimed the VAT back on purchase then VAT would be payable on all of used price at full rate
@@peterthomason You cannot claim VAT back on a purchase unless it is needed for business use, regardless of how many VAT numbers one has. Almost no one can justify a motorhome for business use - unless they are specifically in the motorhome trade. They are normally a leisure purchase.
if you buy a new mortor home @£50000 + vat @20% then you pay £60000 .if you are vat registered you reclaim £10000 and if you sell you charge vat on sale price. if you are not vat registered you pay £60000 and when you sell it you dont charge vat on sale price.
@@shaunfloyd41 You cannot claim back VAT on a motorhome merely because you have a VAT number. For example - If I am a plumber with a VAT number and I buy a motorhome, how could I justify a motorhome as part of my plumbing business! That would be absurd.

Been away for a couple of months. Good to see you, as always great video and very informative.
Great Video Daz, trust the universe and follow your dream

Hey Daz, what's the motorhome you're in when you talk about Aircon at 6:25?
It's a Bürstner, harmony line.

Buy a van and convert it pretty much half the price and a good can is better to drive rather than driving a camper

If you think you may be close to the limit go to a weigh bridge. It's £10-15 to get the van weighed

The problem is the second owner doesnt take the vat off. If they paid 50000 and want to sell a year later they still want 45000. Should be 35000
