    Omfg Luke! My current role is also coming to an end and I've been sort of been offered the option to join the data team. I'm just REALLY scared - hence the data analyst/science TH-cam rabbit hole I'm currently in. I'd be really appreciative of any advice you may have for me since I need to choose in the next week or so.

    In order words: have a history of programming work, outside of certificates. Showing employers that you’ve created products with your own knowledge and sharing it with others rather than sitting through a programming course just for the certification.

      @@LukeBarousse If I may offer a suggestion, IDK about others, but I would find it helpful to have even just an overview on the "how" aspect. What I mean is that even with as much training as I have, I look at even "basic" requests on freelance platforms and think, "I would have no idea where to start on this."
      Do be more specific, I just got my MTA's for SQL and Python, I completed IBM courses in Python for Data Science and Machine Learning with Python, and I'm wrapping up a Linkin Learning Pathway for Deep Learning. I pass the tests on the first go with higher than average test scores - so apparently I'm learning the material, but applying it escapes me so far. In the courses, it feels very spoonfed - "do this, now do that," or else, "here is the basic structure, now fill in the missing parameters."
      If your passion is teaching, _please_ consider this request! From my perspective, I'm still at a loss as to why all these different sources teach this way. I'm no educator by trade, but if it were me, I wouldn't even bother teaching someone something as basic as a print command until I first gave them a _reason_ to use it. IOW, "let's say you want to do *X* - how would we go about figuring out how to do *X* with deep learning (or whatever), *_and then_* how would we program that."
      Just a suggestion, though. Thank you for the information in the video, regardless

    i'm a student aspiring to become a data scientist.But i only know python as much as till looping and conditional statements.I also know the basics of pandas like reading dataframes and assigning that to a variable.But another youtuber said that if we need to become a data scientist,we must start working on data science projects ASAP and that we must learn whatever skills we require for that project along the way.But i saw a kaggler's end to end problem solution and nearly recieved a stroke as everything looked like Greek and Latin.Please suggest the appraoch that i shd take towards solving data science projects like how shd i go further with projects as i dont know much of the programming for them as well as how i shd be solving the projects. Also,how can i develop my skills in tensorflow,seaborn etc that are required to become a data scientist.

Having said that, domain expertise (such as biology in your case) is also a bonus. Therefore, I would advise you to start exploring biology stuff where data analysis and machine learning can be applied and start a statistics program if you have the required time and resources

    Wait, you were running a data science TH-cam channel before you landed your first job as a data analyst. How long have you been posting videos on TH-cam before getting this job ? It is way more complex and time consuming than passing a certification.
    Also, if there is such high demand of data analysts, why one shall diferenciate from the "herd"? There is a job to carry out, just pick the first data analyst who seems to know what he is talking about.

    • @LukeBarousse
      @LukeBarousse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't neccessarily compare a certificate to posting on social media. Certificates are great for starting and learning what you need to know. From there when building your skills, thats when I would recommend posting your work to different social platforms (e.g., GitHub, Tableau Public, Medium... etc.). Regarding differentiating, although there is an increased demand, there is also an increased supply. This is just MY recommendation to stand out... you can do anything IMO that helps in this manner
