Very powerful :) I was glad to see a film that didn't contain a happy ending because those aren't always realistic. Well done. The fear was well represented.
Wow I saw this movie for the second time. I am so glad that you guys made this movie. I am an Indian but lived most of life in U.S. Do stay in touch. I love your project. I am now a trans activist.
Advita is a boy transgender as a girl. SHE is a boy in a woman's body. SHE prefers being called by female pronouns- regardless of whether or not she has a dock or not.
Diana Ria Avdić Wait I am confused as well not because I do not understand, I fully understand but I thought Advadita was saying they were FTM "a man trapped in the wrong body" I may have gotten lost in translation though.
melovegrapes It depends upon personal preferences, as well as the circumstantial evidence of the narrator not quite understanding what to do with himself or others.
Wonderful. Loved it. It encourages others who are really special in this world to live their life in their desired way. Even I'm one of that. Thank you for this film.👌👌👌
London Robinson Gender does not necessarily equate to pronouns. I know a trans guy who prefers they/them pronouns. It differs between people. There's also the circumstance, of the main character not quite accepting himself and thus having a hard time accepting others. I'm more worried on where the uncle was. He just disappeared.
Thank you everyone for the kind words. I appreciate all the comments here and the support you are giving this film. I really am extremely happy that you all liked this film I had made when I was 19. I hope I can give you more films like these and hope to get the opportunity to reach an even larger audience so we can send messages like these across. If you like my work please do like our facebook page at facebook.com/beansen
the only thing i didnt like is at the end he/she stays a captive. and that isnt the right thing for them to do. they needed to embrace who they are and live how they want to be
That would have made for a slightly more happy ending but unfortunately this one seems more true to life. The point of the film was to point out a flaw in our society that needs to be fixed and happily ever after wouldn't have been entirely effective. I'm trans and I've come out of the closet just to go directly back in like the character in this film. It's not courageous to live a dangerous, friendless life in the open. It's better to do what you have to to get through the day. Sorry if this got a little personal and depressing but I definitely feel like this film was successful in making a statement.
+Jzmyn Stephens " It's not courageous to live a dangerous, friendless life in the open." Says you. If you're not willing to risk losing your friends, family, comfort, and safety, then you must not want to transition bad enough. I'm disowned by my family, it's extra hard for me to find employment due to transphobia, and if I didn't have a boyfriend to rely on, I'd probably be sucking various dicks for a warm bed, and a tv dinner. But I'd rather live in pure living hell as a trans woman, then have the illusion of safety and comfort that comes with living a lie.
Sorry that was poorly phrased. What i meant was more that its not the only respectable path to take. I posted that comment a while back and have since began to socially transition but to play devil's advocate for my bitter past self I still think that was a great ending because it wouldn't have made the same impact with a happy ending. Trans people aren't always superhuman and able to immediately deal with any problem that comes their way and remain true to themselves. Sorry about your current situation and sorry for saying you weren't courageous because of it. I hope things get better for you.
Mia Honeyrose If it risks your personal safety or the safety of others it is most often advised to stay in the closet until you are safe. Safety is imperative, and some people choose or are forced to remain in the closet because of that. I have a friend who has had to go back into the closet because of un acceptance by their parents and their entire future was on the line. It is better to be in the closet now and be able to safely come out later than risk your life now and suffer because of it.
Hi guys, It's Kunal Bhan here. One of the creators of this film and lead actor, we cannot thank you enough. All of you. We read every comment and want to better ourselves for you. rohan malik Thanks a lot Rohan , it means a lot. I appreciate all the comments here and the support you are giving this film. I really am extremely happy that you all liked this film. :)
Okay, neither the uncle nor the main character are referring to Advadita as a man. They say "niece" and "she." Plus, the last scene with the phone call did not have the best audio, considering that you could understand Advadita and his mother's voice perfectly, which is unrealistic. They didn't make much of an effort at all to alter their appearances when they dressed as their true gender, and in the end, Advadita wasn't even crying or anything before he shot himself, which is also kind of bizarre. He didn't even ever receive his phone back, so how could he have called the other character?! The concept of this short film is good, but the execution is not very good at all. I'm speaking from an honest point of view, and I think the script for this must have been a rough draft or only looked over by a minimum amount of inexperienced people of both film and the concept of gender identity. Sorry to break it to you, but this could have been done a lot better.
Instead of killing herself she should've told her mother, "It's my Life whatever I wanna do, it's my Life where ever I wanna go, it's my life whom I wanna love! It's my life whatever I wanna talk, it's my life wherever I wanna walk, it's my life whom I wanna leave! OHHH OHHHH OHHHH OH OH OHHHH OH OH OH OHHHHH!!!
HollywoodPrince21 I believe they're Hindi/Hindu not Muslim. They might not even be religious at all. In which case I'm not sure the proper term would be. But its not Muslim.
Wow I am both transgender and transsexual and I have nobody who understood me when I found out that these words explained me what I was feeling then I meet mason on Instagram and me and him relate to each other we are both FTM and we both like girls
CC Cox Incorrect. Surgery doesn't matter at all. Transsexual is just another way of describing someone who was designed the opposite sex of who they are.
It's so awsome that you found someone who goes through the same thing as you im happy for you. im still in the just comming out and feeling lonely stage xD haha
I'm so sorry. I hope you realize that there are people who will accept you. You just have to find them. Please don't give up like she did, there are so many things to live for. I wish you peace ♡
valentinealtsoba pronouns are relative per person. Plus the realistic fact that the narrator was having a hard time accepting himself, and thus would have difficulty accepting others. Respect culture differences.
Being a fellow trans girl I can say its powerful, but things, like not addressing them with their pronouns or even bringing it up, made me feel uncomfy.
Very powerful :)
I was glad to see a film that didn't contain a happy ending because those aren't always realistic.
Well done. The fear was well represented.

When she knocked on the door
Her make up was BEAUTIFUL
I agree she is :) I would have accepted her

Why is the main character not referring to Advadita using male pronouns?
Exactly!
Precisely my question!
Advita is a boy transgender as a girl. SHE is a boy in a woman's body. SHE prefers being called by female pronouns- regardless of whether or not she has a dock or not.
***** It may be confusing to some at first, but everyone has their own preferences, so if she wants to be called *she* then it's okay.
Diana Ria Avdić Wait I am confused as well not because I do not understand, I fully understand but I thought Advadita was saying they were FTM "a man trapped in the wrong body" I may have gotten lost in translation though.
Why did the main character misgender her friend? They're a male in a female body. Don't call him "she".
I agree it made me so mad when they did that :(
melovegrapes It depends upon personal preferences, as well as the circumstantial evidence of the narrator not quite understanding what to do with himself or others.
I know the pain of being this way and transition is not easy but ending your life like this is not the answer!
Wonderful. Loved it. It encourages others who are really special in this world to live their life in their desired way. Even I'm one of that. Thank you for this film.👌👌👌
This was good, but I wish they hadn't MISGENDERED ADAVITA! He was a male, not a "she"...

There's one problem with what ur saying there Muslim so whatever the mom says goes... There very strict people
HollywoodPrince21 I believe they're Hindi/Hindu not Muslim. They might not even be religious at all. In which case I'm not sure the proper term would be. But its not Muslim.
Most likely Hindu or Muslim maybe even Christian. Doesn't matter though, no religious doctrine supports the homosexual lifestyle.
agreed
It's very difficult to stumble upon a good Indian movie on lgbt but I loved captive....

Wow I am both transgender and transsexual and I have nobody who understood me when I found out that these words explained me what I was feeling then I meet mason on Instagram and me and him relate to each other we are both FTM and we both like girls
Im ftm but doesn't transgender and transexual the same?
In reply to Jules, transsexual tends to refer to someone who has fully medically transitioned.
ohhhh thanks for telling me CC Cox
CC Cox Incorrect. Surgery doesn't matter at all. Transsexual is just another way of describing someone who was designed the opposite sex of who they are.

I find it excruciatingly bullshit for the woman to keep calling the man "her"
valentinealtsoba pronouns are relative per person. Plus the realistic fact that the narrator was having a hard time accepting himself, and thus would have difficulty accepting others. Respect culture differences.
"I am a mistake" I say that to myself every time I look at myself in the mirror.
Lol so relatable
