  • Zygomatic Bone
    It is paired bone.
It forms the prominence of the cheek.
It has 3 surfaces - Lateral, Temporal & Orbital
    2 Processes - Frontal & Temporal
5 Borders - Anterosuperior, Anteroinferior, Posterosuperior, Posteroinferior & Posteromedial
    Lateral surface: Smooth and concave
Presents one or more foramina - Zygomatico facial foramina transmitting zygomaticofacial nerves & vessels
Oblique ridge - anterior part gives attachments to zygomaticus minor & posterior part gives attachment to zygomaticus major
along the infraorbital margin near the maxilla give attachment to elevator labii superioris
Temporal surface: has anterior rough part articulating with zygomatic process of maxilla
posterior rough part is smooth forms anterior wall for temporal & infra temporal fossa
Presents one or more zygomaticotemporal foramina transmitting zygomaticotemporal nerves & vessels
Orbital surface - forms floor & lateral wall of orbit
presents zygomaticoorbital foramen leads to y - shaped canal which opens at zygomaticotemporal & zygomaticofacial foramina.
1cm below the front zygomatic suture it presents Whitnall’s tubercle which gives attachment to
    1. lateral palpebral ligament
    2. check ligament of lateral rectus
    3. suspensory ligament of eyeball
    4. aponeurosis of levator palpebrae superioris
Anterosuperior border forms the infraorbital margin
    Anteroinferior border
Posterosuperior border is italic f - shaped becomes continuous above with posterior border of zygomatic process of frontal bone and below with the upper margin of zygomatic arch
    gives attachment to temporal fascia
    Posterioinferior border
Posteromedial border articulate with lateral border of orbital surface of greater wing of sphenoid in the upper part
    Lower part articulates with maxilla
Frontal process - articulates with zygomatic process of Frontal bone
Temporal process articulates with zygomatic process of temporal bone forming zygomatic arch Follow me in blogspot - human-anatomylessons.blogspot... _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Visit my blogs - humananatomyonline.in/
