  • How am I going to read all those books? Do I use sticky notes? A notebook? How do you find the captain idea? I repeat: AM I GOING TO READ ALL THOSE BOOKS?
    This one's for the common mom figuring out how to pre-read.
    Want my pre-reading spreadsheet template? It's in Common House (like a Patreon, but better) with all the good stuff: commonhouse.mn.co/

    Autumn, I thought I had met you briefly at the retreat. This channel is great! I just recently found it. This video brought up more great ideas on how to break down the pre-reading list. I especially appreciate your view to enjoy the books ourselves rather than a task to be done for a beautiful purpose. Thank you for sharing!

      @@thecommonplacehomeschool Hello, Yes it was beautiful retreat! I am a mother of 7 , I have ages 22 to 6. I am down to my last four children that are in forms 1,2,3. The elder children were classically educated with a splash of charlotte mason. My younger are getting the most out of a rich Charlotte Mason home education experience and I am enjoying it immensely. 🙂

      What a happy year you have ahead of you!
      My pre-reading isn't as extensive as this video/year was because I realised I don't really need to pre-read for the early years. Generally, the subject material doesn't require it but I do pre-read for subjects I'm less familiar with, like natural history. I'll also keep notes on Bible if I anticipate difficult questions!

    I love and am super helped with the idea of preparing the “capital idea.” I’m wondering if that is something one would do with a fictional read aloud? Say Wind in the willows or something? I can see it for a history lesson or picture study or maybe even a math lesson if you are really on it, but yeah, wondering if you do it for fiction.

    • @thecommonplacehomeschool

    • @thecommonplacehomeschool

      Hey there! I didn’t consider SCM because it’s more of an open-and-go approach which isn’t what I wanted. AGF has a lot going for it, but ultimately, I was so impressed at the CMEC’s dedication to following the PNEU and equipping mother-teachers that I couldn’t imagine choosing anything else. I share more about why we chose the CMEC in another video!

    I am working through prereading for my daughter. My question is...as soon as they can read to themselves they should, will you still do intros to their readings at that time? If so, do you do an intro, let them read, when they finish then narrate?

    • @thecommonplacehomeschool
      @thecommonplacehomeschool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will for awhile. Even once they’re working independently for most of their work, I expect to be leaving post-it’s in their books with anything I want to make sure I cover before, draw their attention to, etc.

      @thecommonplacehomeschool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jessica! So glad you’re here.
      I don’t think it’s too late to join! You would need to focus on a few main resources: your form guides, the summer planning course (four videos!), and pre-reading.
      I’ve seen the CMEC share ig stories from moms who are just beginning their summer prep now. It can be done!

    Can you share the cost of books/supplies, Specifically that the CMEC recommended? I’ve looked everywhere

    • @thecommonplacehomeschool
      @thecommonplacehomeschool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For our eldest’s Form 1B year, we spent around $1500 for everything. Now, I bought every book and all supplies, but I also bought many of the bonus recommended books. I won’t need to spend nearly as much for my boys’ Form 1B years and as my other kids join, I’ll be combining different things across forms which will also change the yearly costs (reducing each individual year). Since families have so much wiggle room in how they combine forms with multiple children, it’s hard to get a single “cost per year”; it really depends on the family.
