  • Narration usually brings three things to mind: oral, written, and drawn narrations. But what if I told you there are so many more?!

    Love, love, love... Our children need to learn how to be good story tellers and these tips are so vital to teaching that skill. Thank you!

      YES. I was actually just pitching a miniseries to my Patreon about the stories we tell ourselves and our children-good and bad, true and false-in our family rhythms. Storytelling is a muscle needed for courage, hope, faithfulness, joy, etc etc!

    This is so excellent! So many great ideas! Between you and joining the CMEC I feel so enthusiastic about narrating now and I feel like I’m finally starting to *get* it

    These ideas sound so fun and engaging. I wish someone would re-school me like that. Yes, I know I can do this for myself. lol But how delightful to have someone curating and directing an education FOR YOU. How delightful to have someone else "laying the feast".

      ME. TOO.
      I'm very grateful to be learning alongside of my kids but it does take so much more effort as an adult who wasn't raised with such goodness!

    Thank you for this video. I'm excited to try a few of these with my boys!

    Wonderful explanations as usual! Watching these practical videos while simultaneously planning for our year has been so exciting for me. Can’t wait to see how they play out in real time w our family.

    I may have read this but cannot recall....when you have a short lesson, 25 min...how long do you read to than give enough time for narrations? I think this has always been my problem is the class ends up being much longer because I read for longer than maybe I should and than depending on what they do for narration some classes end up being 45 min.

      For younger kids (my set), we leave about 10-12 minutes for narration. We also doing the "beauty subjects" in a co-op setting, so it's slightly different than at home!

      @thecommonplacehomeschool thank you. We just found a co-op but its just a secular county co-op. Hoping the kids enjoy it.

    Thats similar to how i chart music when I am choreographing a dance. If its a 4/4, i make a tic for every 8 count moving down the page. Then i go back and write one word to describe each 8 count. Eventually i will notice a pattern and then group 8 counts into section A, B, C, etc. I usually end up with 3 to 5 sections. Look up choreography charting. There are several methods.

      Oh yes! People with more music theory or a better ear than I have do this and I think it's beautiful! I'm hopeful that by some point in my kids' education, I'll understand how to hear and annotate in such a way!

      @@thecommonplacehomeschool 4/4 is common in most pop music on the modern radio. And counting is easy by just whatever you would tap your foot to. Its your narrative so whatever count your body feels is correct. Im new to music notation myself.

    I'm new to CMEC and I'm overwhelmed. If lesson are so short how are you suppose for in art or poem narration.

    • @thecommonplacehomeschool
      @thecommonplacehomeschool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Depending on the lesson, for the early years, you're working with a 10-20 minute block. Children don't have endless time to listen or view a piece. Maybe five or so minutes. Then they narrate. If they have to stop before they're finished, that's okay. They can revisit that entry during afternoon leisure or during their composition block!

      Oh! Also, since you're CMEC, check out the resources for artist and composer lessons. They have some teaching/videos that may help!!
