  • During our visit to Joubertina, we saw that the town was between the Tsitsikamma and Kouga Mountains. As we made our way to the town, we spotted two small bridges that had once been used by the old Apple Express train. Although we couldn't get close enough to see them up close, we were able to capture their beauty using the drone. The sight was truly fantastic and left us in awe of not only the bridges, but of the natural surroundings too. Upon arrival in the town, we almost immediately stumbled upon the old train station and the old loco with boxcar. Unfortunately it had seen better days and was in poor condition. Nevertheless, we pressed on and continued exploring the town. The rest of Joubertina proved to be a hidden gem. The golf course was in great shape, and we enjoyed the lovely views from there. The Dutch Reformed Church was another highlight of our visit. The architecture was stunning and we were lucky enough to have the church open to explore its interior. Overall, our trip to Joubertina was a wonderful experience. It was truly a memorable adventure that we will cherish for years to come. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #joubertina

    Joubertina was very beautiful. I thought I could 'smell' the grass and surrounds. The music accompaniment was perfect. Best of all I could strike LIKE first.

    I Remember the huge Dinkie Toy collection at the hotel. I did a lot of work in this area. I installed the gantry close to the level crossing as you turn off the the station. The railway people were so generous. When I did work at the railway staff accommodation I never left without a bottle of canned peaches, freshly baked bread and all sorts of home made produces. Don't even think of declining the gift. That was the culture of the Langkloof people. Thank you for the memories.

      Happy to hear that our video reminded you of some good times in this area! We did pick up on the generous spirit of the folks and they were all super friendly too, which is always fantastic for us as travellers to encounter! 😁 I'm not sure if you're referring to the Kloof Hotel, as was another viewer. Apparently the rooms have been turned long-term apartment accommodation. I hope the Dinkie Toy collection was saved though! 🚙🚗 Thank you for watching our video of an area very familiar to you, we appreciate that! 👌🏻

    Thanks for the video. I attended Hoerskool McLachlan in Joubertina from 1976 to 1980. Opposite the school is Huis Badenhorst that served as accommodation for farm boys like me. On the other side of the school is the girls' accommodation. The girls' dormitory was named Huis Bester.

    Hi guys a lovely clean neat town it would have been great to get to the old iron bridge the rail tracks keep popping up every where again for me the drone footage shows the vastness of the area around the town with all the fruit fields shame about the old station buildings and the train engine. The DRF church with stunning views of Formosa mountain was painted in Dutch flag colours. Very nice country club with all the facilities tennis bowls put put the drone footage puts it all into perspective. Loved the history of the 2000 year old mummy. The church really stood out beautiful interior with pipe organ I noticed Jewish menorah candle holder on the alter ?? .the grounds for and I loved the memorial with wagon wheel. The high school looked well attended and the little nursery with the little apple trainjie was charming thanks for another great video cheerio till the next one

      Joubertina was really a great and very clean town, we loved visiting it! 🤩🚙 Once we knew that the Apple Express ran from Avontuur to Port Elizabeth, we knew we'd see them all along our route and it never got old, we loved it! It was sad to see the state of the old station and the stately loco, but we still thought he was beautiful! 🚂🛤️ The surrounding area, farmland and orchards were stunning to see, especially from the air. Glad you enjoyed the drone shots too! I've seen menorahs in Dutch Reformed Churches before and read online that it is 'not only Judaism's oldest symbol, but also the Western world's oldest continuously used religious symbol', so it can be seen in Christian faith buildings too. 🕎

    In my five years as a Rep in the area I never had the opportunity to explore Joubertina with such depth, thank you for bringing back to what was one of my favourite spots in the Westrern Cape. The Church was in an immaculate condition, absolutely enjoyed the footage on that one.
    Enjoy doing what one day will become part of my bucket list a revisit on my motorcycle.

    I really loved the D R Church in Joubertina. There is just so much history there. I also loved your drone footage and music accompanied with it. You always choose lovely music to accompany your videos. I love how you love trains and always look for the tracks. My Father loved trains too. Just such a pity that some of the loco's and trucks have gone to wreck and ruin. So sad. Thank you for the ride with you and Sonia.

      Thank you so much, I'm happy to hear that you enjoy travelling with us! 🚙🤩 We happened to be in Apple Express country and stations just happen to be one of the countless things that fascinate us on our travels, so we were lucky to find many of them on this trip, with lots of tracks and even loco's thrown in, which was a huge bonus! 🚂🛤️ Despite the decay and destruction we almost always find when looking for stations, there is still so much beauty and history that will always remain and we hang on to that. It's special that our videos remind you of your dad in a way, I love that! 😍 I appreciate the compliment about my music choices, it's often difficult to choose the right piece, so I'm glad you approve! 😁🎶

    The 'boxcar' you showed at the station is a 'guards van' and was always placed at the end of the train. The steel column had a brake wheel attached at the top, which the train guard used as a type of hand brake to stop the guard's van from running off by itself.

    Hi you two! I'm beginning to think that you are being tracked by the Apple Express rail. It finds you wherever you go! The drone view of the old rail bridges and surrounds was captivating.
    Fascinating to find yet another town founded by a church community. The DRC building is really stunning, both inside and out. It must have taken a lot of effort to build, with that woodwork and all.
    The tour around the outskirts of the town (on gravel roads no less) was beautiful with the greenery and mountains all around. The drone view from the golf club was special and so was the music, as always!
    The town is green, neat and peaceful and I love them keeping up their links with history. I'm just wondering why they do not touch up that locomotive as the monument it clearly is. It's not going to last long in that state.
    Thanks for a wonderful interesting trip. You'll find me waiting on the roadside as soon as you leave town!
    Keep safe!

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you about the old loco! He is still magnificent in his current sad state and I so wish they would start by putting a fence around him to stop any further damage. I'd love to see him look nice and handsome again, what's left of him anyway! 🚂😍 It's been a while now that we've been fascinated by stations and the stories they can tell, but this was expanded to train tracks on this trip and it was just fantastic to find them everywhere we went! 🛤️😁 The church is a really beautiful building and clearly the congregation looks after it, which is great to see! 💒 As always, I'm so happy when you enjoy the drone footage with the tunes, I just loved seeing the orchards next to the golf course from above, that was super cool! We shall pick you up again on Tuesday and can't wait! 🚙🤩

    Beautiful drone shots yet again…. however so heartbreaking to see the rail infrastructure gone to waste. The old locomotive would be better off in the scrapyard, not doing anything for the town.
    Thank you for the trip to another beautiful town.

      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the drone footage! 🚙🤩 While we're also always saddened by any decay and destruction we happen upon in any place we visit, I would be devastated if they would move the loco to a scrapyard. In its current location, it's at least still visible as a reminder of history and available to admiring eyes like ours who still see the beauty and power it once had. We spent quite a bit of time with the old fellow and we were honoured to do so. 🚂😍

    Oh dear! I can't see my response here anywhere! It must have slipped through someone's crack somewhere!!!! Anyway, I think I had mostly to say about the glorious sky and clouds. Absolutely stunning. And the old locomotive just broke my heart. Wish she could be restored as a piece of history.

      Yup, we always love the skies and the clouds, whether they're grey or bright blue! 🤩🌧️ We loved the old loco. He (I know you say she, but he's an old fellow to us 😍) is still very beautiful, despite not being taken care of and we spent quite a bit of time admiring him. 🚂 Not sure what happened to your previous comment, but this one I saw! Joubertinia. Memories of many years ago i went there to hunt Koedoe.. The town is beautiful and the church stunning. Wonder what the seating capacity if the church is. Thank you for the drone footage - it was well done and perfect control. After all these Langkloof trips we must conclude that the Langkloof is a beautiful piece of land of our country. Well done and thank you for taking me along. My seat is booked for the next one!

      I'm happy that we could take you back to Joubertina. 😁 It would be interesting to know the seating capacity of this very beautiful church, which is a landmark in this pretty town. That is a question I never thought of asking the friendly lady at the church office. 🤷🏼‍♂️💒 It was our first visit to the Langkloof and an area that we were happy to have visited. Each place was a unique experience and the beauty in this area is absolutely breathtaking. 🚙🤩

      Thank you, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed our visits to Joubertina and the other places we visited in the Langkloof, a fantastic area! 🚙🤩 I'm glad you were reminded of some special times in your life. We didn't hear about or see the Kloof Hotel. A quick search online indicates that it's still operational, but that the hotel rooms were turned into apartments for long-term accommodation. That's as far as I can tell at least, but I can not guarantee that this info is accurate. 🤷‍♂️

    What is heimwee in English, because that is what this video is giving me! My late maternal grandparents used to live on a farm 13 km from the town. We visited almost every school holiday, as I grew up in PE. We always attended the church when we visited, especially during Christmas or Easter.
    It is sad to see the locomotive and boxcar in such a bad state! I loved the loco as a child, when it was still in a good condition. The loco type is called a Garrett and as two sets of driven wheels. I'm no train expert, but I believe that narrow-gauge Garretts are pretty rare.
    The last time I visited the town was in 2016 for my grandfather's (Beethoven "Towen" Ferreira) funeral. The service was in the church and the memories kept coming back.
    Thank you for documenting the SA countrywide! I'm sure each town you visit brings back memories for many people.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think nostalgia or homesickness would describe what you're feeling best and I understand it completely. 😊 It's unbelievable that you remember the loco being there as a child, we were also rather saddened by its current condition. 😥🚂 I appreciate the info on the loco, and it's all the more reason for it to be taken care of and restored. For us, most of our visits to places like Joubertina are our first visits, but we're always so happy to hear from viewers like you who are reminded of special people and times in their lives. Thank you for sharing with us. 🚙😁

      Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy our videos! 🚙😁 There are simply too many requests for info to be included in our videos for us to remember it all, so we will continue to include little tidbits we happen to find out online or by chatting to locals. Our videos are all different though and don't always contain the same info. A quick online search indicates that the population of Joubertina was 5752 in 2011. 👥 This is according to Wikipedia and I can't confirm that the info is accurate. 🤷‍♂️

    I live here in the old age home. The town itself is derelict and forsaken. Joubertina could be a lovely place but it's in dire need of business, jobs etc. Houses are falling apart, buildings are forgotten etc. Coming from the Western Cape it's a shock to my system for sure. The water supply is really terrible. Dark brown with bits of dirt that blocks water inflow for toilet cisterns and washing machines etc. Where's the maintenance of Joubertina? It's just so bad and terribly sad. I truly wish I could leave.
