SHOWA BPF FORK SEAL REPLACEMENT | Kawasaki ZX10R Big Piston Forks

- The BPF system is based on advanced engineering with race-focused performance, but the basic principle behind it is quite simple: the bigger the pressure-bearing area, the less pressure is needed to obtain a specific damping force. Unlike previous forks which used a cartridge to regulate the oil flow, the Showa BPF relies on a single piston to do this. The damper piston is around 3.5 times as large as the previous cartridge system, providing better damping with noticeably less oil pressure, and granting the fork a much smoother, more sophisticated operation.

Nice vid man! A few things I would consider adding. for zx10r -(11-15)
Oil type Showa SS-19 or equivalent. Fork Oil Level (fully compressed) - with rod assembly installed!
Standard: 85 ±2 mm (3.35 ±0.08 in.) - NOTE - After more than 10 minutes, oil level is 76 ±2 mm (2.99±0.08 in.).
Move the piston rod assembly up and down more than 10 times in order to expel all the air from the fork oil.
Move the outer tube up and down more than 10 times in order to expel all the air from the fork oil.
Torque - Front Fork Clamp Bolts (Upper): 20 N·m (2.0kgf·m, 15 ft·lb)
Handlebar Clamp Bolts: 25 N·m (2.5 kgf·m, 18ft·lb)
Piston Rod Guide Case: 90 N·m (9.2 kgf·m, 66 ft·lb)
🏍🏍
Thanks for the tips and torque specs!!! Your rock!
Bro, for the piston rod guide, I left the forks on the bike, removed the top cap then put the axle through both forks and broke the torque on both inner pistons. Made my life so much easier.
Thanks for the tip!
Manual calls them bushings because that’s what they are. A bushing is a metal lining for a round hole that houses a sliding or rotating shaft or stanchion with the purpose of improving fitment and reducing friction. A shim is a washer or strip of material that is used to align parts, alter their fitment, or reduce wear.
Thanks for the correct technical definitions.
love the tune ever since Gone in 60 Seconds
I know right!!
Love the backing track (except when it is used for squats). Been trying to get motivated to do the Honda and the Ducati Darmah front forks. will get to it one day.
I wonder what the Darmah forks are like???? Sure there is a video out there somewhere for it.
@@MonkeyButtRides I want to replace the springs to suit my weight as well. Just waiting to get the motor done first.
That looks like even more of a pain than a standard upside down! Big piston forks are awesome though.....nice job amigo :) They also always feel so so nice when they're done eh :D Worth the work :)
Those multi axles weird thingys are very handy!!
They actually weren't to bad, mostly just different then what I'm use to but now that I know how.....bout the same LOE, thank you sir and yes feel great getting them done. Aren't they!!! Love tools like that.
@@MonkeyButtRides Ah ok, just a bit of learning so :) 2 years of smooth forking now :P Yeah me too, especially when if you just pick it up it looks uesless :D
Well done mate I dont have 5he gear to do it myself unfortunately
Thanks BoltBucket!
Great video!
Thank you! I got most of it from the motorcycle boss!
MOTORCYCLE BOSS Showa BPF Service Video
th-cam.com/video/XynDggGo9W4/w-d-xo.html
is this procedure the same on a gen 6 ZX-10R?
They are not the same forks so I'm sure there are some differences. The Gen5 changed from the Big Piston Forks (BPF) to the Balance Free Front (BFF) and I believe that is what they run on the Gen6's but not 100% sure. They are all still Showa's so it will be a similar process I just don't know the details. Sorry. Maybe check out the www.zx-10r.net/forums/?
Bro which grade fork oil have you used
The manual calls for SS-47 but you can substitute a 7wt or in my case 10wt for oil will work just fine.
Bro how much mm fork guide special tool??
Check out this dudes version of the same service he has links to the tools which is where I got mine from...
