A flying race, ancestral guardian barb, ranged weapon user. The creature hit by their attack has disadvantage on anyone but them but cannot reach them because they’re flying.

So I like this build; however, the help action needs to be done within 5ft of the creature in order for it to work. If you went Mastermind Rouge, it gives you 30ft reach with the help action. Nice build though.

@techwizsmith7963 hobgoblin allows for the help action as a bonus action PBTPD. It doesn't give a range though. That means it has to still be within 5ft of the creature.

I like this build, especially if you go 11 Fighter and 9 Rogue. You get more SA damage so if you're only making 1 attack a turn because your other attacks are used to help the team, your damage output is still solid. If you miss a shot, you still have others to compensate.
My favorite martial character to date was a War Cleric/Paladin. I was the meat shield in a party of 2 Rogues and a Wizard so I needed to get stuck in and tar pit the enemy with Spirit Guardians.

I find it really cool to build characters out of movies or series into d&d characters.
I now have a Trevor Belmont from Castelvania build. And it is a really solid Dex build battle master. Focusing on acrobatics to hop and jump arround the battlefield. And use your whip's reach to trip and shove or grapple stuff. It feels really cool.
Maybe you could give it a go on how you would build Trevor Belmont?

Monks are stronger than people give then credit for. I think the problem is that their subclasses look relatively lackluster compared to other classes' subclasses. The issue with that type of comparison is that monks have most of their best stuff in the core class which makes their subclasses look meh. Also, because a lot of their best stuff is in their core class, the things that make them strong are common among all monks, they're kinda same-ish to eachother. I know the flavor is very varied but their performance is very same-y (which is fine with me btw).

Bugbear rune knight with a polearm has fantastic battlefield control. If you have one enemy you can block them off an use all your attacks on them, or for mobs you can reach pretty much anyone, picking the goblins off one by one. Since melee ignores cover you can also get those pesky hiding creatures, or attack someone who has trouble attacking you back. Throw in the sentinel/polearm master combo and you can shield your party and stop enemies like nobody else.

I made a bug bear ancestral barbarian for a one-shot. His departed family members appeared during battle and would give him unsolicited life advice. Just imagine this voice and you've got it: "you never write! You never call! And whatever happened to that nice Rose girl?! *Struggles in mortal grapple* "Ma, this isn't the time for that. Could you just help me?!" "Oh sure, you call when you need something."

  • @aarons.8161
    @aarons.8161 ปีที่แล้ว

I tend to prefer the idea of "Leading from the front". So mine is more of a melee fighter with either a Sword&Board, Sword and Hand Crossbow/pistol, or just a sword. The last using his free hand to grapple, throw dagger/axes or to toss vials, bombs and/or traps. That said, should be noted that with Fast Hands allowing Object Interactions a Bonus Action, Drawing or stowing a weapon or even equiping and unequiping a shield are considered Object nteractions. Thus adding more versatility to this build. Draw a second weapon for more DPS, a shield to be more defensive, a dagger to be thrown, or to toss a vial or bomb. What ever the situation calls for on your turn.
Also, to sort of maximize the amount of Feats/ASIs you can get, I'd say take more levels of Rogue than Fighter. As the Fighter gets their extra feat at 6 and Rogues get's theirs at 10. Youd be losing the Extra Extra Attack, but you'd have more Feats/ASI's to compensate. Not to mention the Supreme Sneak and Reliable Talent features... if you're wanting to be that extremely stealthy, or never roll less than a 10 on any of your proficent skills. Also, good feat for this is the Martial Adept for two more Maneuvers and Dice and taking the Superior Technique for one more of both.

Something I've been labbing out for quite a while that actually really closely follows the vein of the 'Battlefield Commander' archetype is a Rogue/Fighter/Wizard multiclass, I call it a "Battlefield Tactician" rather than a commander. Mastermind rogue, Battlemaster Fighter, Divination wizard. In games where DM's don't play with the optional flanking rule, you shell out Advantage like no ones business, distracting strike with your whip empowered by booming blade, Bonus action help action, and an owl all granting three separate instances of advantage. With Divination wizard, you can literally control the tide of a battle in some circumstances, and with plenty of utility ritual spells like Tensers Floating disk, Identify, Detect magic, you're limited number of spell slots can be saved for the tide turning spells like Silvery Barbs or Shield.
My usual stance is to take Variant human, getting that early extra Feat to take Martial adept, while also taking the Superior technique fighting style to make yourself a miniature battlemaster at level one, and then immediately pivot into Rogue 3, Wizard 2, and after pumping to fighter five, (Picking up Mobile or An ASI along the way) take all of your remaining levels into rogue. You end up with 6 Superiority Dice, all the maneuvers you could want and with so many methods of gaining advantage you'll practically always be slamming someone with an incredibly potent maneuver/booming blade empowered sneak attack from outside of their range, and then scurry away using your additional movement speed from Mobile, making you an incredibly versatile battlefield support striker with excellent out of combat utility.

I really like this build, good job!. Thinking on a variant, i would go with throwing weapons, mainly for flavour, but going full strenght with heavy armor can make the character less MAD. Other fun possibility is going arcane archer with fighter (i know, arcane archer kinda sucks, but i find the concept fun), taking the core maneuvers with the fighting style and/or martial adept. Damn, if i find a DM that allows arcane archer with throwing weapons i'll do both!

With a good wisdom built in would a level or two in order domain cleric be worth picking up over fighter levels beyond 7 or 8?
Only issue with commanders strike is it eats up an attack as well as bonus action, while voice of authority is whenever you cast a spell, which could be say bonus action healing word or sanctuary. Also bless can be flavoured as a rousing encouraging speech, why waste that con sabe prof from fighter?

Almost forgot, fun martial rogue build is a strength rogue with expertise in athletics and the Tavern Brawler feat. Shove, grapple and tripping your way around the battlefield.
A fun little trick here is, since a shove or trip is considered an attack action, you can prone an enemy, then grapple them. Ground and pound 😎

Fighter/Rogue has always been my favorite martial multiclass; even in editions when it wasn't good. There are so many level splits and subclass combinations you can go with in 5e it's hard to go wrong. It's very easy to get reaction attacks for multiple sneaks in a round, especially with a Duelist build (Battle Master/Swashbuckler). Very often you can drop an enemy and then when his ally rushes you to avenge him you can Brace attack and kill him too. In a one on one fight it's especially brutal.

The best Tactical Battle Master would not be this one. It would be:
Race: Hobgoblin (3 levels mastermind rogue gives you help action as a bonus action, which is the whole reason why you want hobgoblin, but you won't be getting 3 levels Mastermind Rogue right away)
Classes: (not in any particular order) 1 Level Order Domain Cleric, 3 Levels Mastermind Rogue, and 16 Levels Glamour Bard.
So what does all of this do exactly? Well, dipping in the 1 level Order Domain Cleric will allow our Bard Spell to have our allies attack using their reactions. I've talked to people about this and they don't like that I'm using their reaction because what if they can get an opportunity attack in at some point? Well. . . odds are players won't be using their reactions and only Booming Blade and Sentinel builds truly care about their opportunity attacks and there aren't many of those.
Next is the mastermind rogue. Which, if you can fit 3 levels during character creation then you don't need hobgoblin as your race. This is for giving your help action a range of 30 feet. This isn't really optimal, but it fits thematically. You could go without this multiclass and just take 3 extra levels in Bard instead.
Glamour Bard. This in my eyes is a subclass about fashion, but I like the roleplay it as a subclass about ordering your comrades around the battlefield. You spend a bardic inspiration die and a number of creatures you choose up to your charisma modifier can move half their movement speed as a reaction without provoking opportunity attacks. This is really good because you often have allies in spots where they don't want to be and refuse to move because they fear the opportunity attack.
I played this build a few times and it is mostly just support. You don't do that much damage. Some people will think you are useless, but you increase your party's efficiency so I tend to disagree.

Martial characters are only relegated to "single target damage across the board", because people dont bother reading the alternate rules!
    1) follow through damage. You CAN, in fact, as long as you have another enemy within 5 feet of you, carry over any damage dealt from one other target, to it. Say you deal 50 damage to target 1, but it only has 37 HP congrats, you can cleave it, and take the remaining 13 damage to target 2! Yippie!
Or 2) MARKING. You can, as a FREE ACTION, mark a target that you hit with an attack on your turn, and can then make a FREE REACTION, against that target as an opportunity attack. The kicker? This doesnt eat up your standard reaction, so can make an AoO against it on its turn, AND still have your reaction free to AoO another target on ITS turn..
This is why you read optional rules, people!

Mixed with Hobgoblin, it allowed for ranged Bonus Action Aid Other + Cast spell / Reaction Attack allowed for a lot of versatility. Matters on how proactive or support you wanna go. Really just need dex char and Wis enough to multiclass. Not attacking much and your spells are just used to trigger reaction. Not using spells vs saves. Not attacking unless fighter 5. Char highest if splash the Bard.
This build needs a special party make up to shine in though. Need those hard hitters or straight class rouges to see big pay offs. Get the martial adept fighting style for more commanding strikes. This character can be more of the Face persuasion type in group.

Standard array is easy. 15,14,13 already there. 12 can get a +1 or +2. So you have 4 stats ready to multiclass. This character doesn't need to be in combat just 30' away. Con is not needed since you shouldn't be in melee. Concentration should be rare as well. Bless up and avoid combat and give help advantage of commander strike attacks or a healing word to mainly trigger reaction attack. Hobgoblin buffs. This build you can literally never attack or do offense on your own and have rest of party do all the heavy lifting. You'd be good out of combat skill checks as well.
