Going to give this a try! I've read all about ignoring the barking and reward for good behaviour and giving attention to barking only encourages them to bark, even if it's negative attention, but I found this strategy really doesn't work. Our pom pup seems to only be barking more and more as time goes on. You really got me with the 'good leaders don't ignore bad behaviour'. That makes so much more sense! The barking is getting really out of control and honestly it's driving me and my ears nuts. Thank you for this video!

@@fenrirpomeranianshow869 hey man got a question, 2 female poms. They arent over the top but they have their moments and triggers.
My first pom (Ahri), 2 years and a month old never made a peep until she was 1 year and 2 months old. The cause was hospitalization for 2 weeks and a half. She swallowed an olive and nasty vets decided to search every desease known to man rather then do a cat scan or an echo when the x-ray didnt show anything. She was vomitting every 20 to 40 seconds for 2 weeks straight and no food, stuck on iv drip. It was a miracle she lived after we forcibly took her elsewhere, but since then on she barks at every little noise the neighbour makes, she sees a person accross the street, she sees a light further away at night...she simply goes off.
The second, (Primrose) is 7 months old. Still eating her sisters poop and stops to pee every 20 mins spot pees randomly, yet she knows where to do her pee, that being corrected slowly. She barks when I go up the stairs, or leave down the stairs. When outside she also barks when Ahri barks and runs away to the entrance door in a means to escape.
(Uptairs is living room and kitchen not bedrooms, they have a baby gate to stop them going down and peeing all over the house or going into cat litters. They have a playpen to sleep in at night or when no one is home.)
My question is, how can I improve my method of correction. Here is my method. I shout Hey!
Primrose and Ahri jump and look back, Ahri may continue barking, Prim barks under her breath.
Next i say, come here! They both come to me but they are frightened as they know im mad, it takes me to repeat it, each repeat they come 3 steps closer to where im pointing. They head down.
Next i say sit. Primrose normally is okay by then but sometimes shes still barking under her breath. Ahri tho...shes still focusing on her target and barking, less machine gun but still going.
If Prim is okay I pet her and let her go, Ahri is never okay, and this will make Prim restart 30 seconds later. To which I repeat the process for her. Ahri i make her lay on her back and tell her to stay, at this point she is still trying to bark at what ever triggered her, and i turn her body to make it to hard for her to look at the trigger. Still on her back tho, she is growling and low key, very lowkey underbreath barking testing me. I tell her no, very strickly and with 3 fingers like a claw i poke her chest or the side of her head to turn her focus back to me and not what shes desperatly trying to bark at.
Primrose will have the same process as Ahri when she restarts barking.
My issue is that this hasn't really been effective at 100%, my dogs listen to commands but seem very intimidated and are scared when I raise my tone, yet still stubbornly insist on trying to weasel a few underbreaths barks even during correction despite fearing my "anger".
The process always keeps repeating and never actually progresses. So where am I going wrong? Is the laying into submission wrong when still barking during sut and lay down commands. If not, am i to make them lay down until they completely untense, as i normally only give them the "up" command when they stoped barking for 15 seconds, but their body still looks tense.
So any advice will be apreciated as i would like to learn.
      Thank you.

I think this is a great video. The only thing I have a concern about, is you show all of these videos of pomeranians when the instructor talks about choke chains. While I understand this is a tool that can be used on many dogs, pomeranians are prone to get a collapsed trachea and a choke chain or even a normal collar can aggravate that.

I have found that breeds that tend to bark excessively very often do not respond well to ignoring the barking, because it is just the nature of the breed to bark a lot for self-stimulation. So if we don't address it, they don't see anything wrong with it.
However with dog breeds that do not bark excessively, but instead bark mainly to communicate with us, ignoring it actually works quite well, because they are trying to get our attention with the barking and if we do not provide that attention they learn that barking for attention is a waste of time and energy.
I think that's the root of this conflict in the canine-training scene, because some tend to forget that just like people, not all dogs are the same. You just have to try and find out what works best for your dog.

1206 am. What do you do when dog barks at you, you correct… he ignores you, backs up or runs away and still barking.

I have 4 poms so one barking sets the others off and mostly when we have visitors as they want to jump up and be fussed. I live in a flat so I have a baby gate at the top of the stairs so visitors coming in have to walk in the hallway and up the stairs so I struggle to keep them quiet when I also come inside. 😒

Really great video! Thank you! I have two 8 mos poms. Sisters.
One is a barker especially around people and when people come over.
She gets good exercise and we are still at the 2nd level, the relationship. She minds me about 80% of the time, so we are almost there. The 3rd level is the one I will start implementing tomorrow!
    Thanks for helping😃

I’m going to try this. It will be hard to not let them in the bed while I’m establishing dominance 😢

  • @DovidM
    @DovidM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Very clear explanations. Many people give up on correcting their dog because the dog doesn’t obey their verbal command. They don’t see that the behavior that bothers them is the result of not establishing their dominance over the dog.

You're trying to be "different" but you need to just base your things on research. And not research you've done yourself or "that one study", what many studies seem to point to.
