There has recently been analysis of Eagles concert footage showing without a doubt that Don Henley is performing to a pre-recorded voice track. I am sure this new policy at concerts is a direct response to that.

I used to be a rock writer for several newspapers in the 90's. I have interviewed Don Henley and spent some time with him. I have also interviewed Joe Walsh and Glenn Frey. I saw the Eagles 3 times in a month, 2 years ago. I saw many people being kicked out that had paid 1,600$ pet ticket and I just did not get it until now. I have seen the youtube videos talking about Don using backing tracks for his vocals. I think Don is trying to protect himself from embarrassing videos of him not being in sync with them. That's all I could come up with for an explanation that makes sense. Great video. Thanks

I produce commercials for a living, but began my career in the early 90s as a music video producer.
About my third job in, I was producing a music video for Jackson Browne, who was incredibly nice to the entire crew, by the way.
At about 8am, Jackson walks up to me and tells me that Don Henley was going to be stopping by at about noon to appear in the video. This was a complete surprise, but the record company quickly approved the cost of getting Henley his own motorhome.
The motorhome arrived about 10am, and I had Production Assistants prep the motorhome. That is, put a bouquet of flowers in there as well as a fruit basket and some drinks in the fridge, etc.
Being the Producer on the job, I was pretty nervous and I personally checked the motorhome to make sure everything was in order. But being a NEWBIE Producer, I checked his MoHo a SECOND TIME to double check all was in top shape and ready for him to relax until he was needed on set.
Anyway, Henley arrives via his car service at about noon to Jackson’s grandfather’s house where we were filming, and I walked out to the curb to greet him and show him to his motorhome.
I was pretty nervous and after my initial greeting with him, I mentioned that his motorhome had arrived, but that I was just going to triple check to make sure everything was good to go. I knew it was, but I was a 22 year old kid and was very nervous.
As soon as I told him that I was going to triple check his motorhome he glanced at me with a look of distain and had the nerve to say, “my motorhome better be fucking ready.”
I bit my tongue did a quick but probably needless third check of the motorhome and let him know that it was good to enter.
I never spoke to him for the rest of the day, but I remember thinking that he was a very mean person and left me with a less than positive image of a songwriter that I practically idolized before then.
From this TH-cam video, it sounds like he’s as big an asshole now as he’s ever been.
My story happened about 30 years ago, and I still can’t listen to his music without remembering what a turd of a man he is.
Jackson on the other hand, was amazing and filled with kindness and nonstop stories for the crew.
I actually had the honor of sitting on the front porch with him during lunch as he explained how he wrote his song The Pretender, on that very porch and that the ice cream truck that he references in the song lyrics was literally an ice cream truck that would come down that very street and park across the street from the porch we were sitting at. WOW! (Says the Jackson Browne fan!)
I’ve since worked with scores of huge-name celebrities, and that absolutely remains one of my fondest memories.
Back to Henley: I just don’t understand why someone that’s been so blessed in his life, can’t shine a small ray of light on the world and instead CHOOSES to be the grouchy-turd-person that he’s always been and continues to be.
Oh, if that would have happened ten years later in my career, I would have told him to f*ck off and walked away.
    * I’ve had to tell one or two celebs FU for their rudeness.
89% of celebs just want to do their job but are polite. 10% are very nice and go out of their way to brighten up the day of those around them.
But, as with everything and everyone in life: it’s that 1% that can ruin an otherwise nice day.
Be kind to one another, folks!!

There's one way to stop this.
No one buy tickets to their concerts. Sadly, boomers will keep buying tickets.
My brother and I went to see Van Halen on the Women and Children first tour circa 1981 at the Toledo sports arena in Toledo Ohio. I was in 9 th grade maybe, my brother in his 20's. He was a camera buff and we came loaded for bear with two bags full of SLR cameras, telephoto lenses and 35 mm film. After waiting in line for three hours we were told at the doors...."no cameras".....
In the utmost level of coolness the door guy said, "the little guy can stay here with me and you can run your cameras back to your vehicle....." The guy even sent someone to get me a pepsi fron the concession stand...it was July and 100 degrees.
The general admission show was completely oversold and by the time we got in there was nowhere to sit or even stand on the floor.
We spent the next 2 hours perched on the edge of the concete wall that surrounded the with an arm hooked around the hand rail.
It was easily 130 degrees it that place. They were carrying people out left and right. My brother says, "I'm going to get us something to drink" mid show.
He came back 20 minutes later with 4 draft beers. To this day, the best beer I've ever tasted.
    Love you brother Keith.

I was at a Danzig show a few years back. There were signs up saying no phones or videos. Towards the end of the set. Some guy was seen taking a picture or video. Danzig stopped the set, threatened to beat the shit out of the guy, told security to “ go get that guy “ … not sure why but multiple security guards tackled the guy and were definitely roughing him up a bit , they then dragged him off to a back stage area.
A few days later the guy made a post saying that the security held him down while Danzig punched him in the face. Not sure if that part is true because it was back stage .
It was really messed up , and created this weird vibe at the venue .
Danzig played a few more songs but the vibe was gone , people were leaving or just standing around.

I watched Glenn get his f%ckin' azz beat by some straight edge kid in the crowd he thought he could test. Glenn always thought he was invincible until he wasn't & got an attitude adjustment by the wrong dude he chested up too! Don't get it twisted Danzig luvs to fight & can definitely hold his own with just about anyone who steps to him. Although Glenn is well trained in martial arts, he also has a little man complex that defeats his purpose at times in conflict. No matter how big & bad you think you are it still goes both ways. Especially if you're an azzhole who's stuck on Stoopid like Danzig is. Don't underestimate a crazy crowd of young punk rockers you think you can push around in the pit. I'd also stand on stage and ask if as a courtesy they only use their phones briefly or when necessary.

AVID (the ProTools folks) had a whole system for this: "stem" mixes from the FOH mixer and a switched feed from VDO, sent in real time to an off-site facility where final sound mix would be done, and any video editing or enhancement was done. Buyers at the concert would get a download ticket and by the time they were at home, they could download the show they just saw. AVID had all the software and hardware to make this work but the concept didn't "sell" to the performers or promoters.

This was AFTER Metallica already made a billion dollars. I lost all respect for them at that point.
My rule is this: you NEVER hassle or sue your fans. PERIOD.
Your fans are the reason you EXIST. Some artists and labels understand this.
Will fans go overboard and cross the line once in awhile? Yeah. It happens. But the majority of
the fans will be respectful. There will always be some bad apples in every bunch.
This is the price of fame and fortune. Deal with it, or find something else to do with your life.
I won't support any band that goes after their fans. Leave the fans alone.

i remember going to shows in the 90s, and a lot of bands had strict "no camera" policies. if you got caught with one, you'd have to either get rid of it or leave. (to be fair, they were much more strict with video cameras and the like than they were with crappy disposable still-frames)
so naturally, i figured out real quick that if i wore long-pants and tucked it in to my sock, i'd be good to go. i'd get my dozen or 2 shots (very quick and carefully so as to not get caught .... cheap film cameras didn't even need time to focus) , and now i had something for my scrapbook to show my friends.
while i can understand bands not wanting vids getting posted on the internet, the genie is already out of the bottle, and it ain't going back in. and like the dude from Sum41 said, if it's that big a deal, pay for the service that locks up e'body's phone. (if he can afford an entire platoon of full-time internet snoops, then he can certainly afford that)
really all Don is doing is making sure that he and his music die in obscurity.
this really contrasts sharply with a video i recently saw of The Warning talking about the first time they saw counterfeit merch being sold outside one of the venues they were playing .... they were ecstatic at the idea that they were a big enough deal that people were willing to pay for fake merch 🤣🤣🤣 "that's how you know you've made it 🥳"

I’m a working cover band musician, even when I was in an original band and we got a little bit of notoriety in the New York area back in the 80s. We never cared if people took pictures videotaped it. We didn’t care a lot of other bands didn’t care hell the Grateful Dead would promote you to take your recording gear in and record them and it only made them more popular. That’s what I don’t understand. They’re not producing new music and the kids really don’t know who they are and when you try to record something and put it up on TH-cam they want you to take it down and you know what I abide by it. I go OK, I won’t do anything. Enough of people don’t acknowledge their music. It will cease to exist where the Grateful Dead don’t care what you do we live forever. As a guy from Sum 41 said world changing just the way it is you can’t control where your music goes once you put it out there let it go let it go all kinds of places, put it up on TH-cam you’ll still get a cut over they’re making and I know you don’t make much on too, but that might be a few thousand dollars every quarter if you’re greedy musician you’ll take all of it which I don’t think is right you’re only entitled to a maximum of 50% but that’s the way I feel your song it might be my intellectual video so now it’s a 50-50 deal however, if you want your legacy to go on beyond your death, you got to let people take your music and run with it.

One the one hand this practice of sending security after people with phones in the audience is par for the course these days. It happened at all of the last 4 or 5 concerts I’ve attended (in the past 3 years). It puts a damper on the experience, but it is what it is, I guess. (Just like seated shows and dynamic pricing, two other marvels of modern concerts.)
On the other hand, Henley may have an ulterior motive here, as he got caught lip syncing his vocals during this latest tour. People found out about it, of course, THANKS TO TH-cam. Turned out his vocals are identical night after night after night, and we now have the video to prove it. That’s how he sounds so amazing in his 70s.
He’s probably embarrassed about the whole affair, as he should be. Imagine spending $250 a person to hear Don Henley lip sync his parts. It’s unconscionable. Just retire already.
