    I don't care what anyone says. I know that Larry Tatum is the Kenpo. People like Tatum and Speakman are the Kenpo. Thank you.

      Just so you know, Speakman was trained by Tatum to 2nd degree.

      OK but Kenpo is useless in a street fight .Too many fancy movements .There is a more efficient version of hawaiian kenpo called Kajukenbo,at least in his european version.Not perfect but much better

      As a representative of SMT I can testify that kenpo is really effective against us. SMT stands for slow motion thugs.

    I’m a Bjj Black Belt and a Boxer. I don’t give a Dam if Kenpo works or not. It’s cool as shit and Mr. Tatum is the Man! Love watching him go. Nuff said.

    I got to 2nd dan in Kenpo. It really does work, I've used it twice in real life.

    Back in 2002 I made it to green belt in Kenpo. This brings back many memories. I'm 36 now and to be honest many techniques he shows saved my life in some pretty bad situations.

      I got to purple before sadly the pandemic prevented me from continue due to the restrictions. I'm hoping to get back to it. Would you mind sharing some of your experiences with using kenpo techniques? Thankfully I've never had to use them yet.

      @@Avenging_Archer A lot of people I've been with in person and also online kind have always clowned on Kenpo. I had a very knowledgeable, patient and understanding Sensei. It’s not always about being the biggest or the strongest, it's about speed, situational awareness, confidence and discipline. Ofcourse most strikes from kenpo are arranged in ways to disarm and shock, leaving your opponent disoriented. I always preferred open hand strikes opposed to closed fist. Not only is it more surface area but the force is applied much more throughout with the thrust of your punches. Many years ago I got jumped by a couple punks at a Wendy's. The biggest of the 2 needed to be put down right away and I palmed striked the side of his face just short of his right ear. And he went down instantly. That's a very sensitive area and you lose balance. The 2nd guy grabbed me from behind in a bear hug. Simply stomped his foot, stepped forward and broke his grip with a forward punch followed by a reverse elbow into his sternum. It wasn't necessarily as neat as when you practice your kata's but the main thing was staying calm and focused. Though I was attacked and many witnesses described what happened, I was arrested for causing injury to those two guys.

    What I love about Larry but fear about his helpers....he doesn't hold back. He hits them pretty hard and I appreciate it because it's difficult to demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique if you don't use some of the power to show what the opponent will do/react.

    Tatum is about as good as it gets for showing how striking can be incredibly effective. and...it's the man, not the style.

    • @falcon048
      @falcon048 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is the style to a degree. It's just Larry has trained so well and has mastered the techniques. That's sort of the good and bad of Kenpo. Early development isn't as effective as later development. For example, when your hands and fingers have hardened from all the work and your speed, control, accuracy is heightened, Kenpo becomes a very lethal martial art. When I took Kenpo, the Sensei didn't teach us how to fight. He taught us how to destroy the human form.

    • @drd1924
      @drd1924 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@falcon048 Agreed, I was trained by GM Doug Meeks and about the point I started to become good I also realized how lethally devestating Kenpo actually is to an attacker.
      It is not fighting, it is putting someone in the hospital in 3 seconds or less.
