I don’t quite understand where people are coming from when they say this drink is “unhealthy”. Sure, it might not have much fiber in it, and sure it might be mostly tomato juice with a small amount of other vegetables mixed in. But the low sodium option is high in potassium, and you still get some benefits of vegetables if you otherwise eat no vegetables. It’s not a substitute for actual vegetables, but why isn’t it a good supplemental drink? And it’s certainly better than a can of soda or some other sugary drink.

THANK YOU. My pet peeve are the hyper health crazies who trash V8. My guess is simply because its made by a large company. They throw ambiguous completely unproven statements out there... Its "processed." Ok so what? "All the nutrients get destroyed" Prove it. Did you send it to a lab or does that just sound catchy? V8 juice is super healthy. Only question mark is the sodium content but i don't think sodium impacts all of us the same way. Really good video. Thank you. V8 is GREAT

I started looking up stuff on V8 juice and could not believe the insanity being spewed.

Thank you! My pet peeve as well. Wish people would tell me exactly why it’s “unhealthy”. If sodium is your concern, get the low sodium option and enjoy the added benefits of extra potassium. Prove to me that it’s unhealthy.
I love this, it's so damn good. I'm not a huge fan of vegetables but surprisingly love this so much, gotta get my veggies in somehow. It just tastes like cold tomato soup, and it's filling!
A few years ago, I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. I asked my prostate health and wellness dr. brother about V8 juice and he told me to stay away from anything processed. He said it’s better to just have raw tomatoes and garlic and broccoli and the mini other foods that promote prostate health. What do you think about this?
Christopher, so I also like going the natural route when possible but Id ask your doctor if there is any evidence V8 juice is helpful or harmful to an enlarged prostate. Lycopene, which is found in tomatoes has been shown to help prostates. While I have not seen any studies on V8 juice and prostate health I also have not seen anything bad either. I like garlic, broccoli and tomatoes for prostates but are you eating those every day? Here is a video I did on a garlic supplement I like th-cam.com/video/rKNh5J9wOyo/w-d-xo.html
Back in 2019, I was having trouble with my eyes, and I bought 2 bottles of Bolthouse brand 100% carrot juice (nothing added). I had them down in the (semi-finished) basement because it's cool down there. Stuff happened, and as time went by (turned out I needed cataract surgery) I forgot about the carrot juice. Fast forward to about a week ago (Feb 2022) and I re-discovered the (still sealed) carrot juice. Expiry date late 2019. I opened one bottle - and it still smelled okay. Hmm. So, I put a little in my pasta water, and cooked my pasta in it. It was fine; you couldn't even taste it, really. Didn't get sick or anything. However, I decided to try mixing it with V8 juice (low sodium) because to be honest, I can't stand the taste of carrots. I only mixed a smallish amount of carrot juice in with a medium-large amount of V8. Well - it was amazing! lol I can't stop drinking it. I still have one whole unopened bottle of the carrot juice to finish - I don't want to leave it for too long, even though it tastes fine - so I had to order, like, four 46 oz. bottles of the V8 low sodium, in order to finish up the remaining bottle of carrot juice. Anyway, the point being, that you can probably mix other veg or fruit juices with the V8 and get amazing and delicious results. I know they make / sell the pre-mixed V8/ fruit etc. combos, but it's more fun to experiment; plus you can regulate exactly how much of whatever you're adding to the V8.
@@JoeCannon1 Yes, it _is_ very tasty! You're welcome! 😊 I don't have the wherewithal at this time to make my own fresh-squeezed veggie/fruit juices, so this was a rather serendipitous 'discovery' for me. And I was really glad that the carrot juice was still good, as it was fairly pricey, lol.
@@JoeCannon1 One other thing, regarding carrots: I've been able to eat them, raw organic etc. this way: I cut one regular-size carrot in half, then I slice each half lengthwise, into strips. I dip each strip into a bowl of organic tahini (sesame paste) which kind of masks the carrot-y taste, thus allowing me to eat raw carrots! It's kind of a cop-out, I know - but it's the only way I can take the taste of raw carrots. One could also use hummus. I've also done this with raw organic broccoli, which I _do_ like the taste of. So, there's my carrots dissertation - I just thought maybe someone else out there might not be a carrot fan, but wants to get the benefit of eating them raw. P.S. I also only just found your channel today - great content! 😊
@@jrsygrl72 You can probably find the veggies for less at a local farmers market. There may be less expensive carrot juice brands out there too. Ill be on the look out for them next time I go shopping

Thanks so much, Angela! I agree I'm a fan of low-sodium V8 juice too. I also use it in the crockpot when I make slow-cooker minestrone soup. Give it a try :)
ThePrincess777, I can understand that.I've never seen anything on the pesticides in V8 Juice. Im sure they do wash the ingredients prior to making them into juice. One thing with organic food, they are allowed to use natural pesticides. So, even with organic, there is some pesticides used. One thing you may want to do is call Campbells and ask them about the pesticides they use and what level of them remains in V8 Juice. Im not sure if they would have that answer but I can tell you they were very helpful when I called them with questions I had when I made this video. It cant hurt to try :)
Just found your channel today as I was looking for info on V8. This is great! I studied nutrition in college and grad school, and I appreciate studies on my favorite food items 😊
I love V8 and Clamato. Both are loaded with salt, Clamato more so and without the health benefit of veggies. I now prefer Clamato's smoother, more savory flavor over V8, which is inconsistent with its thickness. The problem with V8 low sodium (aside from the taste) is that, like salt substitutes, it is extremely high in potassium, which is not good for people who need to keep their potassium levels low due to kidney disease or other health concerns. Either way, I make a virgin Mary or Caesar with both just by adding Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, a little celery salt, black pepper, and a squeeze of lemon or lime.
Wasim, I think they are both healthy. I have not seen proof low sodium V8 is healthier overall that the original V8 juice. The ingredients are pretty much the same except for the sodium. If you like the taste of original V8, stick with that.
The problem with regular V8 is the high sodium. The problem with low sodium V8 is the taste. The solution is to add raw apple cider vinegar (and a few drops of hot sauce if you'd like) to taste to the low sodium version. The result is a flavorful, low sodium, highly alkalizing drink. All-around win.
I actually like the low sodium taste. In the video I showed how the regular version helped lower blood pressure. that's in spite of its sodium content.
The hot sauce adds the sodium back though. Even without that, I think it's a VERY SMALL price to pay for health and wellness. ESPECIALLY once the weight comes off, you really have a completely different mindset in my experience. Being satisfied with that scale and how your clothes fit are infinitely more important. For me at least. 😊 Either way you are on the right track!
@@rogerwilliams4742 a few drops of hot sauce is nowhere remotely near the sodium in regular v8. Check the bottle. Do the math. And ultimately leave it out if necessary. I just like a touch of heat, personally. Edit: another option is a dash of jalapeno/habanero powder.
Sodium isn'y bad for you. Your body needs it. It all depends on how much you consume and how frequently. Also depends on how much water you're drinking. I like the diet V8 with some dill pickle brine. Turna it into a super drink and the best hangover cure. Add some fresh black pepper for digestion and it's amazing.
I've drinking v8 almost everyday for at least 8 years i just like the taste alsonif I feel noxious it really works for me..and beer and v8 on the weekends for sure

As soon as the FDA has something to say about something I question it’s validity for our health ! PersonallY I hope V8 is good for you because I love the taste .
That's not really true.. You're going to want to hydrate to replace the water you have lost during physical activity. Water and Gatorade will do this better than something with a fair amount of sodium like V8. The salt in this product will actually worsen dehydration. However, in terms of vitamins and nutrition, V8 is superior. Cheers.
@@criptin4075 Thanks for the feedback. Depending on the intensity of exercise, the sodium in V8 might make it better since sodium (and and potassium other electrolytes) are lost during long-duration exercise. At the end of the day though Id say water is still the drink of choice if the activity lasts less than 60 minutes🙂
Great hangover cure due to “almost high” potassium. Potassium is an essential mineral your body needs to function properly. It is also an electrolyte, and helps conduct electricity. You need adequate intakes of potassium for your heart to function properly. It is also necessary for muscle contractions, particularly the contractions of your intestinal tract. However, you lose potassium thru urination. Alcohol drives urination at 4x the body’s normal rate (breaking the seal is real). So, as you drink alcohol, you urinate more and lose potassium faster than usual, thus making you feel weak and ill. Keeping your potassium high will help mitigate this. Your massive headaches that happen with a hangover are due to dehydration. Because you’re urinating so much, your body is looking for places to draw that water from. Turns out your brain holds lots of water, so it doesn’t take long before your urinary system decides to draw water from your brain. This causes your brain to LITERALLY shrink in size, which stretches the connective and protective membrane between your brain and skull, called the Dura mater. The stretching of your dura mater is what causes the headache. So, lots of water and high potassium intake will help you mitigate those hangovers so you can enjoy drinking even more :D Enjoy!
Hi Mike, electrolytes are minerals and V8 juice had a bunch of minerals. Its one of the few drinks Ive seen that has lot of potassium, which most people probably don't get enough of. I have drunk V8 juice before biking and working out and felt it raised my energy levels too. Glad you found my channel :)
Joe, I looked into this for you. V8 juice is non-GMO. It has no GMO ingredients. The same is true for 99% of all V8 juices too. From the Campbells website, they say the only product that has some GMO ingredients is V8 Bloody Mary. The V8 juice I'm discussing in this video is GMO-Free 😀
All i know is i suffer from terrible headaches, and out of desperation I reached for the low sodium V8 in my frig. 1st it tasted amazing, but more importantly...my headache finally went away, and I had tried everything I ckd think of for days.
I'll jump in here with a few questions. I'm turning 50 today and am about 5'11 @ 210-220 lbs and I'd like to drop that weight down by at least 50 lbs. This isn't so much about a weight loss question as it is > *I AM GOING TO DO IT* / with vegetable juice as *ONE* of the changes in my diet. (not the only one) - I also picked up a coffee maker for the first time in my life because 1-3 cups (normal sized cups) of coffee per day actually has health benefits too + it gets me going in the morning. I've learned to throw out the "pre-made" creamers and suck it up and use 1% milk + 1 teaspoon of sugar instead. Same effect without all the added chemicals in the pre-made junk. So question #1) > In graph form mentally - what would you say V-8 is "low" in (as in not very beneficial and you wish it had more of to balance it out so it's good across the board? #2 > Since that mental graph is only showing the low stuff, what would you supplement the juice with to balance out that chart so the chart reads > Definitely healthy now? #3) Unfortunately I was cursed with High Cholesterol. Dr. has me taking 40mg of Atorvastatin daily > got any magic pills / juices / etc to lower the bad and raise the good #'s? How high?? Well, I'm already 1 heart attack in at aged 42 with 99% blockage in one artery + stent but Dr said my other 2 arteries were 2 of the biggest he'd ever seen in his life and I shouldn't ever have to worry about them. #4) Any magic formula to "eat away" the plack build up naturally that really works?? (I know I spelled plack wrong but it's late and I'm 50.) :) Thanks.
Happy Birthday! So one thing that comes to mind is fiber. Juices are typically low in fiber. Eating more fruits and veggies will help with this. Consider making fruit and veggie smoothies if you are on the run. As you lose weight this may also help lower your cholesterol. There's no magic formula to eat away plaque but eating a more plant-based diet has lots of health effects. Consider the Mediterranean diet which has lots of heart health effects. Exercise is also important. You dont need to beat yourself up. Even walking will help you lose weight and keep your blood vessels healthy. One supplement I like is aged garlic extract. here's my review on it: th-cam.com/video/rKNh5J9wOyo/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps and also hope you have a terrific 50th birthday!
I’m No Dr but losing weight should automatically lower cholesterol? Also, lower carb intake and you will lose weight. They like to make 3:42 it complicated but It’s simple math. Take in less calories than you burn and you can’t help but lose weight. In my opinion. Good luck🍀
I have elevated/high blood pressure despite being on my feet 14 hours a day, walking 10 miles a day in construction.. My diet is likely the cause, too much sugar, unhealthy diet.
ThePrincess777, V8 juice contains only non-genetically modified foods (Non-GMO). I see that as a good thing. The foods are not genetically modified. So far, the studies appear to show GMO foods are safe but I personally prefer non-GMO if I can get it. Companies often don't tell us if they have GMO or not ingredients - and I think theres a reason. I think they know some of us would not buy foods if we know they contained genetically modified ingredients. Either way Im glad to see V8 Juice contains only non-genetically modified ingredients. I think they should talk about this more. As for organic, the ingredients are NOT organic. I'm less concerned with this and here's why: When we look at the totality of the studies, they tend to show eating more fruits and veggies is linked to better health. The studies don't say those foods need to be organic. I've seen some studies showing organic foods may have higher amounts of some anti-oxidants and I've also seen other studies showing they don't. So, for me, this doesn't matter although I'd bet if they ever made an organic V8 Juice, it would be very popular. I'd definitely buy it.
@@JoeCannon1 Hi, Joe. Great video. Just wanted to say that most scientists are ok with GMOs. Crops are generally only modified to keep them from dying from widespread diseases. For example, the banana we eat today is called the Cavendish Banana. Until the 1950s, Americans and Europeans preferred the Gros Michel Banana. In the 1950s, the Gros Michel was plagued by Panama disease killing almost every crop globally. So, the Cavendish took over as top banana because it was immune to this Panama disease. Nowadays, there is a reported new plague that is hitting Cavendish banana crops. Allowing the plague to kill the Cavendish would be traumatic to the agriculture industry and to generally poor banana farmers worldwide. The way scientists can stop this plague is by modifying the genetics of the Cavendish to make it immune. It would change nothing about the banana in any way, including its macro or micronutrient makeup, color, taste, etc. It’d be the same exact banana with the exception of it being genetically immune to this new disease. They’ve already begun modifying the cavendish genetics for immunity. It’s predicted that you won’t be able to get a non-GMO banana within the next decade or so. But again, this is not to worry about because the banana will be entirely unchanged otherwise and will affect your body no differently than it does today. The only reason “Non-GMO” is put on labels is for marketing-food industry has been telling us that GMOs are going to kill us so they can sell us more expensive “non-GMO” food and eliminate competition from foods that are genetically modified. Same thing happened with MSG: we’ve been lied to for several decades that MSG is the worst thing in the world, but it turns out it’s no worse for you than salt. Food industry ran phony experiments to “prove” MSG was bad (like injecting 8oz of MSG directly into the bloodstream of monkeys; no wonder they had headaches...), but it was all just marketing to try to get their sales up. Sorry for the the essay. A video about GMOs would be a good one. My mind is always open to being changed.
@@asdjkable I was not aware of the plague affecting bananas so thanks for bringing this up. A lot of people ask me about what is GMO and Non GMO so that's why I mention it. That is an interesting angle you bring up about food companies using NON-GMO labeling as a marketing tactic. I had not considered this. I wish all companies would just tell us what is GMO and Non GMO so people can decide for themselves. I think it adds to confusion when people dont know. I agree I have not seen any studies showing problems with GMO foods and odds are people are eating them whether they know it or not.
Does V8 juice help with inflammation? I'm having back muscle problems which my chiropractor says is inflammation pushing on the nerves. I cannot take ibuprofen so I'm looking for something else that will help.
Mike, since V8 juice has vegetables, it should help lower inflammation as vegetables and a plant based diet can do this. That said I cant say if it would help your muscle/nerve issues as V8 juice has not been tested for this. Id say it cant hurt but go into this with eyes open and see what happens. Let me know if it helps.

I love V-8 juice. The low sodium is the way to go. Great mixed with vodka. The one thing different which is minor is V-8 like most juices sold is it has to be pasteurized, or you have small shelf life. When you pasteurizer juices and milk, you kill off the natural enzymes and nutrients they contain. Fresh is always better, but V-8 is still great. Be careful with milk though. Right out of the cow or goat at the farm is highly nutritious , however store bought can make you sick unless you have a reputable store and brand..

Sodium, in reality, has LITTLE overall effect on blood pressure. Potassium, on the other hand, can lower it when consumed daily in the properly recommended daily allowance.

@@JoeCannon1Yea sure does. I've been researching it and I've been a saltaholic since I was a teenager. Yet, I'm 62 and take no meds for blood pressure, and my blood pressure is always around 125/72. Thanks, Joe. I stopped drinking V8 decades ago because of the salt content and did not know there was a low sodium product. Good info.
Michael, Thanks so much! Yes the low sodium V8 has been around for quite some time. I prefer the taste of the low sodium version. 🙂
Low sodium tastes nasty. Bring on the high sodium stuff.
If you're on a low sodium nutrition plan and track it, the sodium content in a V8 is negligible.
Thank you. V8 is GREAT

I started looking up stuff on V8 juice and could not believe the insanity being spewed.

it's simple math. 99% of youtube videos about v8 are negative....that means automatically drink and buy stock in this product
I did not know that! I never looked at other videos I prefer showing people the evidence and letting them decide.

That sounds really tasty! I'm going to have to try that. Thanks for the tip :)

I’m worried about the spraying of pesticides in regards to organic. Thank you so much for your rep,y

Original tastes better than LS, but which one is healthier?
@@rogerwilliams4742 I'm so glad V8 has helped you so much! That's a great idea about adding hot sauce too. :)

That's not really true.. You're going to want to hydrate to replace the water you have lost during physical activity. However, in terms of vitamins and nutrition, V8 is superior. Cheers.

@@JoeCannon1 Indeed it does. Thanks. :-)
@@asdjkable Great synopsis on the mechanism of hangovers! Sounds like you have a medical/science background :)

Curious about your thoughts regarding about the gmo and not being organic.
There's nothing wrong with GMO. GMO are still organics.
Orange carrots are GMO.

I have not checked out V8 Healthy greens but I will when I see it in the supermarket. If it adds green foods to the diet then that can only be a good thing.
The healthy greens is absolutely disgusting. I love V8 so I thought the greens would be good - it has pineapple in it and a very nasty taste. I called Campvell's and got my money back. Stick to the original.
@@OhSankYouDoktor Ive never tried healthy greens but I will try it. I like pineapple on pizza so I may just like it :)
@@OhSankYouDoktor are you talking about Sweet Greens? I tried the Sweet Greens version and didn't like it, I love pineapple but didn't like the strong pineapple/sweet taste of that stuff. To me, the Healthy Greens (though it also has pineapple) is very good and I don't even notice a pineapple taste to it.
@@ucdcrush No, I meant the Healthy Greens. I stick to the original V8 and doctor it to basically make a Virgin Mary.
How many cups per serving is a can ?
Seanmark, the cans I have seen are 8 oz (1 cup)
@@JoeCannon1 why, thank you very much
@@RudySantobello Happy to be of assistance :)
Very informative. Thanks! :-)
You bet Katie, happy to help :)
The connection between sodium and high blood pressure is bunk.
James, While I think there is something to sodium and high blood pressure it was interesting to see the study showing even regular - sodium-rich V8 juice lowered blood pressure.
What are the 8 vegetables in V-8 Juice?
The nutrition facts label states Tomatoes, Carrots, Celery, Beets, Parsley, Lettuce, Watercress, Spinach
@@JoeCannon1 Thanks so much! I could not read it! The print is too small! That is 8 you listed! That was what I was wondering about! Maybe the carrots will help my eyes! lol! Thanks! 😊🏃♂️
@@spiritofecstasy8525 Anytime glad to help Spirit. You never know about those carrots :)
Is it possible to drink too much
I don't recall hearing anything on this. For most healthy people I don't think that would be a problem.
Too much anything is bad for you. Even water.
@@sifugurusensei This is true. Hyponatremia is the big bad side effect of drinking too much water. But you'd have to drink a lot of it. The same would be true for V8 juice but I'm not aware of any "too much" side effects of drinking V8 juice
I think the only plausible problem would be too much sodium since it has near 1/4 of the DV.
@@xduccky4540 That is a possiblity. I personally prefer the low sodium version
It's mostly tomato juice.
That source says 480 mg of sodium. My bottle has 960!?
Its based on the serving which may be 8 oz. My guess is you have a larger bottle?
@Joe Cannon
It’s twelve ounces. Makes sense.
Is V8 juice pasteurized ?
I believe it is
Just chuged a bottle of this
Thats great!
Sodium, in reality, has LITTLE overall effect on blood pressure. Potassium, on the other hand, can lower it when consumed daily in the properly recommended daily allowance.
Quantum, and V8 has a good amount of potassium too - in fact, they've been listing potassium on their Nutrition Facts label long before companies were required to do so 🙂
@@JoeCannon1Yea sure does. I've been researching it and I've been a saltaholic since I was a teenager. Yet, I'm 62 and take no meds for blood pressure, and my blood pressure is always around 125/72. We needs about as much potassium intake as we do sodium each day. Only a very very small percentage of the population has blood pressure affected by sodium. The RDA for potassium appears to be between 3.4 g and 4.7 grams per day and the average diet only provides about half that. I've rediscovered V-8 but it appears I will have to move up from the small cans to the regular or larger cans..... thx!
@@QuantumRift I prefer the larger bottles myself. The cans work in a pinch.
@@JoeCannon1 Yea, off to the store for the larger containers. Thx.
Salt/sodium has a lot to do with blood pressure 🤦🏻♂️.
Love you video I love V8 😂
Watch thanks so much! :)
I will testify to the fact that it changes the microbiome - in the past week or so since I've started drinking V8 (and up until now, I've eschewed both V8 and tomato juice in my diet since I was 8 years old (I'm 62 now)), my farts have definitely changed and now smell like propane. Really!
Quantum, yep that's a telltale sign your microbiome is changing 🙂
@@JoeCannon1 Oh gawd...LOL....my wife hates it!
@@QuantumRift Its an acquired taste. Give her time. She may come around eventually 🙂
@@JoeCannon1 but it's not an acquired 'smell'....LOL
This juice is the only can-served drink I trust... It's just amazing! No added sugar!
And the taste is fantastic... I can never understand how some people are able to say that they don't like the taste of V8 juice when it's got a unique and exotic taste! The mixture of just the salt and natural sugars found in the vegetables makes it taste just amazing!
I love this juice and it's the only beverage I take other than water!
I have the sodium one😞
thats fine too
Idk why but I really like tomato juice for some reason
Grenson, I can't say but there are worse things to have cravings for :)
It's very good. Why buy a juicer?? As the commercials say:veg on!!
Yes, Veg On!! :)
@@JoeCannon1 it's veg up! Oh well I like v8!!! Wish they didn't put high fructose corn syrup in their fruit juices though.
@@Adeline9418 I understand. I like the straight low sodium V8 juice myself :)
The only energy drink I ever drinked
Smart :)
@@JoeCannon1 Amen! 😊👍
@@spiritofecstasy8525 Thanks Spirit :)
Of course it is super high in sodium. Because with out all the salt it is unpalletable
Salvage, try the low sodium version. That's what I drink It tastes great
Low sodium v8 juice has a very low sodium of 140 mgs per a serving size for a cup. It’s better then the regular v8 because that is high in sodium
@@AprilKhaniya3 I think it tastes better too :)
It takes time to acclimate to the low sodium V8 but after awhile you'll notice the regular V8 will taste too salty
@@snailjob09 That's the same with me and the higher salt version
Tomato are a fruit
Correct
Good video
Thanks so much Mike! :)
