    I was at Truchas NM yesterday and nearby areas. Truchas peak looks spectacular from the little town. I am hoping one day I can try the hiking trail going to Truchas Peak.

    Loved this! Going through that area next week. Plan to do wheeler but will find some other mountains to hike a few days before. I’ll be coming from the Oklahoma panhandle. I’m looking to hike in northeastern NM or south/southeast Colorado. Any recommendations?

    Happy Birthday again! What a romantic choice to revisit the engagement at Mt. Truchas on Shelley’s birthday. Beautiful videography and delightful narration. I loved the awe on Shelley’s face as she observed the herd nearby and the gentle cow herding skills exhibited by Mason. Safe travels!

      Hahaha! I don't know about herding skills, but I talk to just about anything that has ears. Thanks for watching, talk to you later!

    Great video guys and happy birthday. Looking at doing that next month as a 2-3 nighter. I’m assuming there’s plenty of available water along the way?

    • @JustAdrift

      Hi Robert! I can only speak for our route, but Jacks Creek is a major water source and of course Pecos Baldy Lake. Plus there is a pump well at the trailhead. Here is a big tip: once you follow the trail to the lake shore, turn left and follow the shoreline until you reach water flowing from the lake into a hole in the ground. Probably 150 yards down the shoreline. Not sure where it goes, but collecting flowing water beats trying not to stir up the lake bottom when collecting at the shoreline. If it’s flowing fast, you’ll hear it. There may also be a stream that feeds into the lake on the on the opposite side, but I’ve never been over there. Have a great time out there!

      @@JustAdrift Thanks for the tip. Going to do this and Winsor Trail the week of 10/12. So looking forward to some alone time. Also, this will be my first trip without the kids and to a place where you didn't need to pack in water......this will make for a much lighter journey. Happy trails!

    This was such a great video guys! My brother and i also attempted the peaks last October, but we ended up not even making it to peak cluster because we took Beatty's trail going NE at the base of Round Mt. didnt make the mileage we wanted to on the first day. We ended up cutting west on the second day and made it to Pecos Baldy though! We are going again at the end of this month though. Cant Wait!! this video makes me even more excited.

      Hi Benjamin! Thanks for the kind words about the video. How much snow is up there right now? If you haven't checked, it may be worth calling the rangers station. When we went and got engaged around this time of year in 2019, we were post holing just to get to Pecos Baldy Lake. It was impassable beyond that without snowshoes and mountaineering gear. Hopefully it will be better conditions for you. Nevertheless, it's incredible out there and there are some amazing camping areas along Jack's Creek Trail. They tend to be under dense tree cover so be prepared with very warm gear since the sun doesn't provide much warmth. Let us know how it goes!

      @@JustAdrift Thanks for that bit of advice, i had not considered that there might still be snow up there at that point; ill chalk that up to being from Texas lol. I left a message with the Ranger's office so i am just waiting to hear back from them. The dates we are planning to go is 4/28-5/1, so i am really hoping that gives it enough time to thaw out a little more!

    Great video! I was up there Aug 2020, and I plan on returning late in October, so it was great to get a trail update. No snow yet just cold :)

    • @JustAdrift
      @JustAdrift  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No snow yet. Do you leave from the Jack's Creek Campground trailhead? I always have, but I'm curious to try other approaches. Did you see many bighorn sheep? If you don't mind, give us a trail update once you get back from your October trek. Thanks for watching the video!

    • @LeonardOutdoorsNM
      @LeonardOutdoorsNM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we start at Jack's Campground, we saw a herd of sheep at Pecos Baldy Lake, a herd of all males about a mile North of the lake, and another herd near Truchas Peak. I'll try to put together a little video as a trail report 👍🏽

    • @LeonardOutdoorsNM
      @LeonardOutdoorsNM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheKirkhamwill From Jack's Campground to Pecos Baldy Lake isn't that far, but with almost 3000ft of elevation gain, it's good to remember slow and steady wins the race. We hiked the whole way without any true breaks for lunch. Next time a mid trail lunch will definitely be in the plans.
      Hope you have a great time! Let me know what the temps are like if you don't mind 😎👍🏽

    Hi Mason and Shelly, I’m looking at hiking Truchas Peak next month, would you guys happen to have a map or know where to get one?

    • @JustAdrift
      @JustAdrift  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi RJ. You need to look for a map of the Santa Fe National Forest. That’s what I bought the first time. I’m (Mason) an old school guy so I cringe saying this, but I love using Gaia app on my phone. It works once you’ve lost signal and has a pin on your location at all times. As long as you have battery, you’re good. Plus a year subscription is cheaper then a map. I hope that helps.
