how did you do? i’m trying to find a solo to play for solo and ensemble this year and my friend said i should play this. is it very difficult or anything? (not that i’m not up for a challenge)
As I was clicking on this video I was thinking of David Cooper's and how I wasn't expecting it to top his, this is my new favorite recording of the piece.
Scott’s approach is more soloistic than David’s. Perhaps it is because David’s career has targeted orchestras. Also, Scott studied with Bill Purvis who comes from a more varied experience and who succeeded John Barrows in the New York Woodwind Quintet.
@@avrumgolub2735 I like Scott’s overall sound better. Also he really has captured the essence of this piece. He doesn’t over-blow. Incredibly well controlled while still passionate. Great legatos. I am told he has a degree in mathematics. I wonder if this helps in his playing
im playing this piece on my senior recital and it's absolutely gorgeous. thank you for this beautiful recording so i can keep listening to the music even when im not practicing
Being a freshman who is going to be playing this in the coming April, this video is a spectacular way to learn dynamics and how to really make this piece pop.
I'm a Freshman in high school and I'm playing this for my solo, and this is the main video that inspired me to play the way I will. So for that I say thank for this blessing of a piece and the people who have performed it.
i’m a junior playing this because i don’t have time to work on a harder solo because of sports and other things so yeah. recommend mozart for you next year.
I'm a sophomore trumpet major playing this but I just started french horn last month and my friend recommended this one to me, its very pretty and easy enough to get under your fingers.
When I search up this piece to help me practice, Scott’s is always the first result. I love this version compared to other ones where the tempo is all over the place. Having a horn recital and this is what I’m playing!
Same but my range in not high since I've only been playing for a year I've won region and I can't even get past an f I don't even know how other people do it 😢
Update: First Division, Gold medal I posted this originally my junior year of high school. Kind of cool to find old comments you made and forgot about a while ago lol. I've since taken another solo (Mozart 2 rondo allegeo) to state and got a 1 on it as well, and now I start my studies in university as a music Ed major. Scott's videos have helped and motivated me all this time, and I hope they will continue to do so. This is still one of my favorites to play, even though I can't play it by memory as well as I used to. I probably won't get to his skill level, but while I still try, I can always pull up youtube to enjoy his sound (and memes). I know this is kind of long and definitely a TLDR kind of comment, but I see no harm in it since it probably won't be read being so obscure. That's okay. Maybe I'll forget about this comment and one day find it like a sort of time capsule. It's always nice to find a reminder of what you were like before. Sometimes, you just gotta take the time and leave some more behind to forget again. I'm glad to be here. I hope I'll be there in my right mind to find this someday again.
I know you probably won’t see this, but thanks scott! This is a great piece that I will most likely play for solo and ensemble (throwing around Strauss Horn Concerto, Morceau de Concert, and this). I would really appreciate if I could get in touch for an online lesson or if you could make some reference videos for those other solos!!! No worries if you aren’t up to it. Beautiful playing!
Does anyone know what tempo he plays this at ? Im trying to practice with a metronome but I’m not so sure what tempo to practice at UPDATE!! I believe he plays this at tempo 64 if anyone else was wondering hope this helps❤
You may not see this but let’s see, what’re your thoughts on cutting the tie between the e flats in bars 79 and 80? Does it make more musical sense to you?
Bellísima interpretación! Muy expresiva. Me gustaría escucharte ejecutar el adagio de Sueños de una Noche de Verano, de Mendelssohn, creo que tienes el sonido ideal para esa obra. Muchas gracias
Hey I’m an 8th grader and I’m doing this for a solo contest I can play the entire song but I was wondering how do you make the first group of grace notes so clean?
I wish the instrument was as easy to play as he makes it seem. So beautiful. I will always stick by the assertion that Bari instruments are the superior in every quality. Especially soli
very clean, compact tone and perfect technique. tone feels very small, like it lacks the richness to fill the hall. Downside of a triple: loses resonance
I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. It’s on TH-cam after all. You are not hearing optimal high fidelity. I assume you are listening on a computer, not a stereo system.
@@hornerinf i've heard him live in a recital. Perfect technique and musicianship but the prescence is just not there. I think it's just an equipment think, cuz he is an incredible player no doubt.
This is what I sound like in the practice room I swear guys
🧐
Playing this for solo and ensemble today! This recording has really helped me learn the piece!
Glad to hear it!

@@TheBandGuyy i’ve been practicing it a little bit and it’s been really fun. thanks for the advice!
@@lil-bil0077 if u want to bring out your tone and dynamics i would also recommend taking the slower tempo. It sounds so nice like that

Very well done Scott! You have a beautiful sound, which will only get better. Keep up your great work.
Beautiful playing Scott, love your tone colours and dynamics, so controlled, bravo!
Thanks!
This is actually the best performance of this piece on TH-cam. It’s even better than David coopers…..and I thought that was perfect. Fantastic job
