My god, if you published a record I would instantly buy it. Absolutely beautiful playing! Thanks so much for all you do! It inspires me to be a better horn player
1. This is by far the best recording of this I can find, truly amazing. 2. How I wish i played this my freshman year of HS, my old private lesson teacher said I should try doing this for our solo competition (I did and it did not go well) and I told my new lesson teacher (who is in college) and he said “I wouldn’t even play that, that’s evil”
To me, this seems to be the culmination of all your channel's content so far. A wonderful piece, and a stunning interpretation. Also, cheers to your accompanist! He is just fantastic.
You're one of the reasons why I switched to horn from trombone. I love the way you sound, and your dedication to uploading high quality content. Plus that Schmid triple is 👌🏽👌🏽
Scott is a legend. But I have to shout out the pianist. These guys live in the background but they are absolutely crushing it day in and day out. Bravo
Well after J & I played through this tonight, Jaden just decided this is going to be his NYSSMA Level 6 solo this year...his senior year 💪🥹📯🎵 Let's gooooooooo!!!!!! 🙌
I love love love this video but holy crap do I wish I could just make the screen go black for a moment playing this in recital, lmao. My endurance and high range are quite strong but even then I feel like some part of me breaks every time I approach that last page and I realise that I still gotta play that end. I love the piece but I always dread having to play it through start to finish!
Excellent interpretation, as always! I've been wondering though, about your horn - how much (if any) does having the high side in addition to the standard F/Bb help with ease in the high register? Thank you!
Hmm, it’s interesting to think about because it’s not always a clear decision when to and not to use. In this piece I don’t think the high side actually helps too much, because the primary challenge is one of endurance, and there isn’t much any Horn can help you with that. However there are still some notes like A and Ab which I just generally prefer to play on the Eb horn for intonation. Ultimately I think it comes down to the sound. In the romantic era rep, I don’t use the Eb side much because I don’t think it offers the right sound always. But in contemporary rep and classical rep, it can have a unique and sometimes more appropriate character.
Great reply! People think the alto side of a triple is a “cheat”, but if your lips are tired by the time you get to the end where you go up to the high Bb twice, a triple won’t save you.
Isn’t it awesome (yet sad) that your low register is miles ahead of Stefan Dohr’s and David Cooper? Just being honest…and I prefer your sound above David Cooper’s too.
Keep at it. The range will come! Use arpeggios to increase your range by going up chromatically. (i.e. 1st line E major arpeggio and hold the 4th space E as a whole note. Take a 5-10 second break and play F arpeggio, then F#, then G, etc. Attempt past your comfortable range, but don't hurt yourself! Do this a few times a week).
Described this to my non-musical friend as “when you’re putting butter on a warm bagel and the butter is melting as you spread it”. Splendid.
This performance deserves so much more notice from classical musicians

Hopefully one day I will have a record to share! Thanks for watching
Yeah that would be great

i don't know why I got a notification for this but I'm glad I did.
I’m glad you got a random notification too
I enjoy your playing, especially your rich, mellow tone. I have been playing horn since 1959, mainly on a 1963 silver 8D.

Thank you so much! Definitely learned a lot to go from my first videos to this
You have such a pure sound, I'd give anything for your tone! This is also an incredible interpretation! Thank you and bravo!!!

Hey Scott! Sounds incredible!!! Miss you buddy!
Hey Michael! Miss you too, hope you’ve been well!
I just started the horn, but you have the best sound I've heard so far.
But I only really like this one song of yours. I'm not much of a classical music guy.
Absolutely beautiful!!!!
Think I just found a new favorite horn piece😂
Fantastic playing. Truly inspires me to be a better horn player and your short calls always give me fantastic new tips and tricks to improve

Much better than Stefan Dohr’s recent performance. 😂😂 Congrats per usual!

I’m just trying to hit a G above the staff
