You are paying a large premium for the base vehicle (before adding upgrades you are talking £54k list price with VAT). If you then add in the metallic paint £900, climate control £1400, and I note Autosleeper is utilising the Merc advanced controls which means you are having the 10 inch media system with the remote camping touch screen for the rear adds a further £4100 to the price. All this is based on the factor that long gone is any guarantee of reliability and more important the reliance of higher running costs e.g. specialist engine and transmission fluids. Across the board of van manufacturing the usage of Adblue has increased dramatically per mile and this fluid is not getting any cheaper. The introduction of the car based 2.0l Euro 6D Group 3 engine has introduced things like nano coating to cylinders and the engine has very specific oil / ash content requirements and the nine speed automatic debate continues about sealed for life versus change at x miles. Mercedes suggest bi annual services or 24 months but as many many users of both car and van have noted at their significant cost is that oil quickly becoming sludge and even some have gone into a solid rubbery state. As a business that utilises a sizeable fleet of Mercedes Iveco and Ford we have taken the decision to play safe and are back to the old days of services at the 8,000 miles or six month stages.
In terms of the conversion it appears to be very compressed space and gloomy and at that price you are into competition with A class builds. Will be interesting to see if Autosleeper offers the E Sprinter base and if any customers are willing to deal with the range limitations.

The M Star is of course a nice camper van. Not a motorhome but a camper van. I really can't see the £100,000 plus price ticket though. I do hope this Merc is more reliable than my sons C300d was because it was terribly unreliable and it was brand new on lease. And one more thing that was worse than the cars unreliability was the Merc service team in the North of England.
