The Detroit Red Wings defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 to win the 1997 Stanley Cup Final 4 games to 0.
I’ll never forget this moment for the rest of my life.
Me neither.
Me neither!! 27 years later I still say THANK YOU RED WINGS!! (From this Ranger fan)
I was only 8 and wasn't into watching sports yet. I wish I would've been. I've been waiting to see them get back for the last 5 years.
"The winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy...Mike Vernon."
Crowd goes from a whisper to "volcano blast" in cheers for the man who put the Wings on his shoulders and said "I've got this Detroit, don't worry."
1:45 Larry Murphy and Bob Rouse hugging, then Rouse asking Murph "Shake hands now?" , then leading the team into the handshake line. Class guys.
Still brings tears.💪🏾
0:07 The end of period horn, followed by the long goal horn never fails to bring chills to my spine! I’m glad the CBC feed of this is back. In the ESPN broadcast, they talked over it, which annoyed me.
It's why CBC was always superior to ESPN in those days. That and I can't stand Garry Thorne or Doc Emrick
And seeing Mike Vernon raise his arms, then throw off his gloves as his teammates pile on! Never forgot seeing this.
Oh man I remember this moment! Sweet childhood memories and forever proud of My Hockeytown 🥰🫶
That fight vs Colorado solidified them as a team and it carried on into the playoffs and finals.
Oh what a night... 🎊
Late December back in 63…
An amazing moment! Those Red Wings were just lethal back then! Tons of talent
They won this at my dad's 70th birthday at Gowanie golf course, great night.
Class Act giving it to Mr. Ilitch.
RIP
97 and 98 Wings best team ever....it's that simple
Hell yeah
Video started a a second after Bob Cole's great call "Stevie Yzerman, on the ice, where he should be. At center ice, where he should be."
I cry watching these man. Best years of wings history
That was one of the best moments EVER! I was sooo excited! it was amazing to be able to see them win it all
Yzerman raising the roof...😂😂😂😁
THAT was awesome!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I was only a kid but this is one of my first memories for sports ever… me and my dad such big hockey fans and this was one of the first moments that made me a fan for life! This entire run actually! What a special team and what a moment it was makes me a bit emotional/ nostalgic looking back on it… the wings were a dynasty and this is what kicked it all off.
Scotty bowman is one THEE gods of hockey.
I will never ever forget this moment me and my dad going nuts I was a little kid but I was infront of the tv with my red wing blanket such an amazing moment in history
Greatest sport in the world! With the greatest trophy of all time!
We will be back there sooner then people think..and the feeling will be 10 times better then the first
They need to get back there. Its been 14 years since they got this far and its a shame that they haven't since they moved to the Eastern Conference. Actually, it doesn't make any sense to put Detroit in the East because they were always a strong team in the Western Conference.
It's never going to be that good again. There will never be another captain like Stevie. Larkin is already complaining about money. The only thing Stevie complained about was not wanting to be traded. He never held the team hostage, never complained about management, adapted his game, and respected tradition. There will never be another athlete that we want to win it, who deserves to win it, and we all watched struggle his way up the mountain to finally win it the way the captain did.
@@davecodd5832 agreeable but since Stevie is out GM there isn’t anybody else I’d rather want to win one as the wings GM. He’s a smart guy he’s going to bring more memories to hockeytown!
It'll never be better than this one, Stevie finally wins the cup, the drought of like what was it 40 something years...So ya I don't think it would get better than this.
@@brandonmorris92 wings still hold the most cup finals appearances over the last 30 yrs
05:13 Eerie remarks by Joey kocur. City going crazy and hoping everyone is safe. Within a week the party stopped when a limousine hit a tree.
I was 8 when this happened. I watched it with my dad.
The long drought is over best line ever
Back when holmstrom was number 15 lol
Vernon needs to be in the hall of fame
He was elected to the HOF in 2023, I believe.
Anyone else get a tear watching Vladdy.

God what it must feel like to win a stanley cup inside you're home arena with a fanbase that gives a shit about hockey .
Maybe one day Buffalo will feel this god knows the fans in this city deserve it
And a 42 year long Stanley Cup drought came to an end!!!

I'm going to tell you something. At really is. In my basement, I have old ticket stubs and team pocket schedules in a huge poster frame. One of those schedules---the 1995-1996 Red Wings Season---has Vladimir Konstantinov's signature on it.
He used to be a frequent shopper in the grocery store I worked at in Detroit's northwest suburbs. He came through my line on more than one occasion and gladly signed it for me. When I look at this signature, I shed a tear.
