      I think this is important info so: Please the red mushrooms are not the magical ones (or at least not the ones you probably think), it is dangerous to spread false information because some not knowing tourist might just take your word for it and not actually reaserch how magical muschrooms look. He might then eat it and hurt himself. I believe most of the czech know what to look for :D just ask them.

      Hi Jen, about that dessert - that every woman (from the western world) thinks it´s a penis cake, is actually Gognac( or Liqueur ) tip. And about that Langoš.....itˇs really fine "street" food.
      But I think, it will be better that someone else introduce these things - Chris and Manish. These guys were here on holliday in 2019, so....check it out.

      Cognac tip in 7:09 - 8:25
      Note: I´m asking myself....Why everyone see in Cognac tip a penis? The shape looks like a Lighthouse....so why everyone seeks falicentrism in everything?

      This video was so much fun!
      Okamura's party is called SPD. (Svoboda a přímá demokracie).
      Czechoslovak nation only existed as a term 1918 - 1938 so that Slovaks wouldn't be smaller minority than Germans. So in 1989 there were Czechs and Slovaks.
      Cranberries go with svíčková.
      Personally I don't see people walking around Prague in these working pants all the time, but maybe I just don't notice.
      Zlaté prasátko is a thing on 24th and I know a version where you don't eat anything until dinner.
      Big bang theory on Student Agency buses - on point! :-D as well as gross pizza :-D :-D
      Overall you have so much insight like perfectly describing Czech in Tatry, knowing about Zeman's public use of a term for lady parts or Jágr in Kladno. Awesome!
      And you both mastered Ř. :-)
      It never occurred to me how suggestive špička was. :-O :-D

    For a bit of context: aside from everything that's been said here about Karel Schwarzenberg (a descendant of a noble family), he had a tendency to fall asleep during long parliamentary debates. It wasn't just the one case, but rather a personal propensity for napping :)
    The red shorts are still burnt into people's consciousness as a symbol of the communist educational system, wherein gym attire was strictly prescribed: white socks, white t-shirt and shorts. Red for boys, navy blue for girls. As much as president Zeman likes to distance himself from the communist era, the public would often remind him that his policies and overall mindset are very much in line with the pre-1989 times.

    • @CZpersi

      I remember that the red shorts were so deeply ingrained into teacher’s minds that they tended to enforce them even many years after the Velvet revolution. I think, it may have originated with pre-WWII Sokol, in fact, but was adopted by the Communists for Spartakiada.

Madlenka Olbrajtová to měla trochu podobně, ty krajanské češtiny bývají vůbec zajímavé, jak se tam mísí zakonzervované archaické vrstvy češtiny s domorodými vlivy. ...... original rustic langoš (lángos in Hungarian) should not be greasy at all as they were NOT fried in hot fat; rather, village people baked them along with bread in raditional rustic owens prehetaed with live fire (kind of similar to wood fired pizza owens, but not the same and there are not many who know how to make them nowadays) as they were made from any leftover bread dough; while still hot, they used to be greased with melted pig lard with shredded or finely diced garlic in it; fried langoš is a later urban invention; actually, the same thing used to be called "podplameník" in Slovakia, Czechs should understand this word pefectly and the Hungarian word "lángos" means exactly the same thing - láng = plameň (or plamen in Czech) ....

    Well I am too young to remember communism but I was told that back then everyone knew someone who either worked or knew someone else who worked with materials needed for your project (in this case chata - summer home) and you either bought it from them or bartered with them (for example pipes for lets say major repair on a car for free if you were a mechanic or knew a mechanic etc.). Commie companies kept poor inventory logs so steeling from the state was simple and hazard free and people didn't mind or even felt justified to do it because the communist regime stole from them and not once (nationalization, collectivization, various currency reforms which were basically nationalization of private savings in disguise etc.)

• @ZemplinTemplar
      @ZemplinTemplar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say the best way to compare them in terms of texture is to friedcakes, just very thin, in flatbread form, and without any fillings (due to that thinness). The only vague similarity with pizza is that it's eaten with toppings, but even those toppings tend to be different and applied differently. Pizza has a thin, non-fluffy, harder crust, while every well-made langoš is soft, doesn't really have a crust. The batter used for a langoš and a pizza is also a fair bit different.

    About chata: Yes there was a saying during comunism that "If you don't steal you steal from your family". Stealing was done from work. There was a lot of construction so usually it was this construction material that was stolen. Managers kind of accounted for this so they always ordered more material than was needed. So that was very helpfull when you wanted to build your own house. But people build Chata mainly because there was little recreation here. No see or ocean to go to for vacation and relax. Just mountains foressts and some lakes. So we build these little cabins to spend our free time there.

The story is that it got invented (deeply in communist era) to get rid of remaining caffeine from coffee roasting. Another more funny story is that it was invented as a replacement of a "western" (and thus bad, wrong, capitalist, ...) Coca-Cola. It was very popular during the communist era but not much after the revolution. People wanted everything western back then. The beverage itself was being made in the local pubs from "Kofo" syrup whose ingredients remain unknown. The recipe of the syrup was bought (for quite a lot of money) by a Greek family and they are the only manufacturer since then. And they were also able to "restart" it so it's one of the most popular drink here (and točená even more in Slovakia) again :).

    I like the phrase "mushroom hunting". It sounds so... dynamic. :-D You could form names for other activities in the same spirit, too. Like "apple hunting" for picking apples... :D

    I discovered you only recently. Slovak here living in Italy (Italian husband). Even here in Italy we had something like langoš which in Italy they call it fried pizza (what a surprise). So you need to try it, both of you. There are many tipes I would recommend one with sour cream on top and cheese of course. And Czechs in Slovak mountains that’s legendary. I remember watching news with my ex boyfriend and every time they said someone died in Tatra’s we were like so how much bet he was Czech. And pomlazka is used to beat women quite brutally let’s be honest. And Slovak women get a looot of very cold water on Easter as well. Not missing Slovak Easter in Italy at all.

    Langos is not a gross pizza, haha, it's basically a salty doughnut! Smeared with pressed garlic (and sometimes mayo), topped with shredded cheese and ketchup

  • @rczv
    @rczv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lángos indeed probably comes from Hungary (purely based on the name) however, langoš with ketchup is a Czech thing. Typical toppings in Hungary are sour cream+grated cheese, minced garlic in oil (you just brush it on), and plain with just salt on top (my preference).

    • @terentule
      @terentule 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you sure? I think ketchup is as prevalent as sour cream in Hungary on langoš (or at least Budapest, from what I remember). Though sour cream on langoš is delicious :)

      Hungarians even have sweet version of Lángos.

    • @rczv

      It's not impossible that it has become more popular, but it's definitely not the default (maybe it's easier to sell ketchup topping to tourists than raw garlic, lol). It wasn't even on offer when I was a kid.

    And regarding muchomurka one interesting thing about the name. The word is joined from two words - Mucho - this is really related to moucha - fly and murka - this is related to the word mořit which in its original meaning means causing the death, not neccesserily quickly - so the name means to kill fly in fact .. because it was used in the past as a flytrap. The cap of the muchomurka was marinated in sweet watter or milk and than the sugar was put on it. The poison was melted into that sweet, flies eat it and died.
    This is probably not new for you guys, as in english the name of this mushroom is exactly connected ... fly agaric, fly amanita, scarlet flycap

    Just to explain the difference between pizza and langoš... Pizza is baked with the toppings but when you make langoš you fry only the dough. When it's fried then you put minced garlic, ketchup and cheese. That's why the cheese isn't melted. And I agree - langoš isn't originally czech but we love it.

    Langoš is very tasty, we eat it in Slovakia too... It is often sold at outdoor swimming pools, but the best one is homemade. You can eat it with garlic, ketchup, cheese, or cream. I also had it in Budapešť at the Christmas fair, it was really big and expensive. Your videos are really fun to watch :)

    Jen, I can’t believe you haven’t tried Kofola! It is the BEST cola ever! I tell people it is the cola for people with discerning taste! There are so many different flavors playing on your tongue. Start with regular or original but then try some of the flavored ones. Angreśt (gooseberry) was surprisingly good. I also love meruňka, meloun, citronu and the Christmas oné they had in 2019 was awesome! There was always a bottle of Kofola on my counter in Brniště!

    and one more :) That open sandwitch is probably Smaženka ... could be translated as deep fryie :) And in fact it's not deep fried :) The word smažit mean deep fry, but sometimes is misused for word roast. This egg and bread crump "pancake" is roasted, recipe bellow.
    It was very popular during communistic times in those times bistro's ... I remember when we were visiting pool on basic school after swimming I've got hungry ... and there was a window to bistro and I every the time eat two of these :)
    It's probably not very often to see it nowadays, but it's not so bad food.
    See a recipe:
    A bread - czech old honest bread using wheat and rye flour and rye ferment.
    A bread just cut to slices
    Put eggs, salt, black peper freshly grounded and czech breadcrums (made from rohlik or houska - the standard white pastry), whip and mix together. Put the oil to the pan, put the whipped egg to that a fry like a slim pancake from both sides.
    Put to the bread slices, add a czech mustard (plnotučná), pickles (usually gherkin and red pepper (kapie)) and sliced onion.
    Try it, is nice :)

    To nebyl chlebíček, ale spíš smaženka, ta je s cibulí a okurkem. Zlaté prasátko "uvidíš", když na Štedrý den vůbec nejíš až do večerní hostiny.

    Hi, there are many (even a kind of standardized) types of chlebíčky (all on a tiny loaf of white bread) but what can see here in the picture is rather what we call a smaženka

    • @henryletham6077
      @henryletham6077 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While chlebíčky can be found at parties and people are just as likely to buy some as to make some them on their own, these smaženky are rather available in buffets and such.
