  • We sat down with PODIUM Co-Founder + 5x CrossFit Games Champ Mat Fraser and PODIUM Athlete + 2x CrossFit Games Champ Justin Medeiros to talk 2023 CrossFit Games, what it's like training to be the best in sport, and the shared adversity the two have experienced. It was an "Everything on the Table" kind of conversation as they let us in on the mindset of what it takes to be an Elite Level Athlete within CrossFit.

This is the first time that Justin is sharing more insight of what's going on 😮 not even the video on his channel shares so much 😱 Thank you Mat!

i deliberately checked comments to see if a.n.y.o.n.e. at least noticed that!! I couldn't stop hearing all the "like"s and wanted to start counting them, considered all the times where just a pause is the only thing needed for the "like" word ..... all sadly distracted me from Justin's contribution to the conversation. I forwarded to just Mat's message...... and I like Justin and LOVE Adam Neifer. oh well.

My total admiration for Mat. But. Every interview, every podcast he is on, is the same same story the Olympic parents, the hate for second place medal, the back injury, the same story over and over, since the sevan podcast, where he already talk everything that he put on his book, but where is the champ evolving.?
What makes Joe Rogan a great host, he knows when to listen

Contrary to most of the opinions on here, I would honestly say Mat should NOT start a podcast. Phenomenal athlete and maybe a really nice guy (never met him personally) but that does not also equate to good podcast host. Too much interruption here/Mat talking for me to enjoy this. It's setup as if Mat is trying to play host, but then it just feels like he forces his way into it, when a good host sits back and listens. Honestly wasn't impressed with him on Rogan either. Feels a bit too big for his britches. Again, maybe a good guy and arguably the xfit goat, but has more to learn in the media business.

“Yea I could compete. But that doesn’t mean you should.” I’ve tried to explain this to the ambitious athletes I’ve worked with. I mean, realistically; very few of us will get to the games. But this goes for your local competitions as well. Taxing ur nervous system too often and not prioritizing recovery is making u LESS fit. And focusing on competing regularly takes away from training and actually getting better regularly. This is such a great video with so much great information with these great CrossFit athletes. If you’re a CrossFit competitor at any level; save this video on a playlist, learn and rewatch it on ur rest days.

This was a great interview and I have definitely enjoyed the process of seeing Matt become less attitude and more of a real person who seems to genuinely care. The conversation that they had about the fuel, energy and drive that comes from hate and resentment was a very real conversation. The unfortunate part is that Matt totally admitted to making up resentments to keep him driven and that it took him a while even after he was done competing to let the resentments go, even the ones that were made up. Some how i bet that he never offered an apology to cooper, but just merely an explanation as to why. I hope I'm wrong. Where am I going with this? I still have a giant case of the ass about how Matt Fraser was the exact opposite of an ambassador for crossfit when he went on the Joe Rogan Podcast. He did crossfit zero favors and quite literally shit on the sport mostly throughout the interview. His beef with Castro or not being selected for Team USA Crossfit in 2016 i think was the resentment he used and hadn't let go of even when he went on that podcast..... but I'm sure there were other things that account for his resentment fueled interview with Rogan. I think he owes crossfit a lot more. Things that as a crossfit ambassador would help the current state of crossfit and really assist in its future growth. I think it starts with an apology to those affected across the sport by your resentment fueled attitude for YEARS. Still love ya and totally like you more now than a couple of years ago. Make things right. Not just with those around you, but to the community as a whole.

I was on gymnastics team and swimming but something made them disappear. Still have major front shin muscles but no idea why I've never had shinsplints since. I ran way more, lifted and swam, ( lifeguard) . Still 100 yrs later and never a shinsplint. Maybe Henshaw can answer that. I always thought it was running on hard pavement would cause it but... I was pretty lean and still pretty lean. Is it running heavy? Hmmm. Is it weight in relation to bodyweight?? I have elite friends that get splints and I don't know what to do to help them...
