Good review. That hardwire kit is very nice with all the supplied fuse taps and Voltage tester. Pity the dashcam didn't give more granular control of the parking mode..e g. Fps of time lapse, a buffered parking mode instead of just impact, and a timer on the parking mode ( e g. 4, 8, 16, 24 hrs) in addition to the voltage drop . Having that sort of functionality on the Viofo dashcams, i look for similar on other dashcams when evaluating.
Awesome video! Good job and thanks for your effort! I know viofo A229 plus and pro are better dashcams but they are also priced high. And their hardwire kit is not as comprehensive. Hencd this thorough video is making me think if I should just settle for the ROVE and save 40-50% of my money! Compromsie being misisng out on Sony Stravis 2 sensor.
Excellent video ...i have a question so i have a on and off switch in my car because i had a cobra camera connected 24 hrs a day for like 2 year so i decided to upgrade to dash cam Rove R3,now i dont need the wire kit for the rove to stay on parking mode on since i have the on and off switch that i had for my cobra dash cam, would it still works for Rove?
That all depends on how your on/off switch is wired into the car (if it's a switch for battery power when ignition is off). My guess is you still need the hardwire kit because 1) it provides a USB C output, 2) it has a voltage protection cutoff circuit to save your car battery, and 3) it will tell the dashcam when to go into parking mode. I am pretty sure your on/off switch does not those features.
Someone did that on or off switch and it has a fuse but not sure how they did it but because I didn't have the wire kit on dash cam cobra before they did that to keep camera on when car was parked off I would have to shut the switch to off for the camera to shut off or switch on for camera to go on but thank you
With the parking mode do all 3 cameras activate and record or just the front facing camera. I ask because I just purchased the R3 after my car got broken into last week.
Hi I have watched some of your vide and still have question about the dash cam, So which dash cam you would recommend if I am looking high quality 3 channel smart dash cam with wifi can monitor everything surrounding?
Thank you so much for sharing the switch settings at the beginning of the video, I had already installed it, but I wasn’t sure what the optimal settings were for that and so that was extremely helpful to have it right there at the start
Great install tutorial. I have the same dashcam and hardwire kit, I installed it. So whenever I turn my car off, the dash cam turns on and when I turn it off it turns off. I am very confused and was wondering if you knew fix around that?
Unfortunately, no. That doesn't mean that (buffered) motion detection cant be added in future updates. I plan to email their support for such a request, because you need to see what happens before it actually happens, hence the buffered feature.
Great camera. It’s unfortunate that (like everything else that uses 3m tape) the adhesive melts and eventually stops working altogether. It’s a complete pain. They should have a better way of mounting this thing, for the money it costs. Might work great if you live in Alaska, but if you’re in a sunny, humid area, you’re gonna have problems.
Same. Helpful but uses lots of technical terms and uses equiment I don't own. And knowing me I'll mess things more. Need to find someone for that complex manoeuver
Ugh. They put the fuse box under my back seat, and it has a whole different diagram. Also, how did you get the fuse box cover back on? Aren't there wires that have to go through that opening to get up to the camera?
Now, I bought a Rove 3 dash cam that I am going to install soon, but if I use the parking mode option and install the hardwire kit I am afraid it will do the same thing that happen before which was that my car won’t start if I don’t start it for 1 or 2 days. I just want to know how to Avoid this and how can I keep using parking mode option and not have problem with car not starting if I don’t start it for few days. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm from India , I own Tata Nexon, I have installed Rove R3 dashcam and it working fine as expected, Can i install this hardwire kit to my car and does the same installation kit works in my car ?
I had one dash cam before I installed on my pathfinder just the way you did, I used a parking mode on it, but if I don’t use or start the car for 2 days the car will not start. It kept happening to me that my car won’t start if I don’t start it for 1 or 2 days I had to remove the fuse for parking mode. Why does that happen and how to avoid that? Please help me out. THANKS
You need a dash camera that has voltage cutoff protection so it does not drain the car battery too low. Either the dash camera has the voltage cutoff or the hardwire kit has that feature built in.
Hello, ever since I have installed my rove dash came the Same model you have on my 2013 pathfinder my car doesn’t start if I don’t start it for two three days. All my settings are same as you showed in your video and I am using it on my 2013 pathfinder which is same wiring and fuse as your pathfinder. Camera works fine, but if I don’t drive for 2,3 days my car does not start and I have to jump start it which is a hassle. I don’t know if it’s the rove dash cam or what else that’s draining the battery so low that my car doesn’t start. I don’t have anything else installed on my car. My battery is only 2 years old and I don’t drive as much either. If it is not the dash cam then what could it be that’s drains my battery so low that my car doesn’t start? What are your thoughts?
If it's draining that much of your car battery, then set the cutoff voltage to 12.4v. If you are still having problems, get your battery tested as it could be a battery problem. I know you said it's a 2 year old battery, but the health of the battery might be bad.
I also unplug the camera when I am parked in the garage so parking mode doesn’t work when I am not going anywhere. I only keep my dash cam on when I go grocery and stuff and when I come back I take the power cable off from my cam, but still battery drains when I am parked inside garage and don’t start car for 2,3 days. I would really appreciate any answer or recommendations.
So I really need help with this hard install I can't get it to record the parking mode. I got it the 1st time after I turned off car parking mode turns on but then I noticed that the camera itself will get hot I moved to diff fuses and when I turn off car the camera turns off
Greetings to everyone! Can somebody please tell me how to install r3 ultimate hardware kit in 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Hynrid? I am having difficulty to locate the right ACC and BATT fuses. I’d really appreciate it. There are no videos on TH-cam for my car. Thank you. 🙏
If you set the Voltage cutoff switch to 12V, what is a real world amount of time that the camera will be able to utilize parking mode before the switch kills the power?
Most car battery powered parking mode will run for about 5-7 hours depending on how many events triggered. Also depend on how much current the dashcam draws.
@@mikekruger8806 Yes and sorry I can't remember exactly how I got it to work but it was in the sequence of the initial activation. Once it finally worked no issues since. It wasn't the parking mode switch for sure. If your having the same issue , try turning on with the car's ignition off or vice versa. It was something like that. For sure no one covered the issue on TH-cam and it wasn't in the manual. Keep messing with it. That's what I did and it finally worked.
Disappointed it doesn’t have motion sensor in parking mode like the Vantrue S2. Also would’ve like buffered recording in parking mode. Because the Vantrue S2 has motion sensor and impact detection in parking mode, it can capture a vehicle moving towards your vehicle before the impact so buffered recording isn’t necessary.

Can I use OBD adapter for parking mode?
Can live footage be viewed from the rove app if the cameras are in parking mode?
With the parking mode do all 3 cameras activate and record or just the front facing camera. I ask because I just purchased the R3 after my car got broken into last week.
All 3. Kind of irrelevant though since they'll probably steal your camera when they break in.

Doing parking mode does it have buffing prior to impact or glass break
There is no buffering before the event.
