    How to see striding: Step 01, find a horse. 02, point horsey at jump. 03, mess it up cause your eye is garbage. 04, give up on riding and take up knitting. A narrative by me.

    Very nice. Do you do other exercises with rails on the ground (in a circle)?

    Hi Holly, I hope you are seeing this. Thankfully when its a line I do quite well, but when it's a jump by itself I often struggle seeing the stride and end up having to take one out or add one. My strides are not the worst, but I just need to try and find that perfect distance that these top riders take. Is it that my canter is not good enough, or that i'm interfering too much with the horse?

    How do you meassure your strides when you put a pole down? Like how much distance is there between 2 poles for trotting and then how long is the distance for one stride? (did that make sense...?)

    • @s4r4w
      @s4r4w 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Liz trot poles are usually 1m (horses) and one stride is about 6m (depends on your horse/pony)

    • @HollyLenahanSJ
      @HollyLenahanSJ  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I use my own steps to measure the distance. Generally for horses, it's two steps for take off and two steps for landing and then four steps for every horse stride. I usually make it a little bit shorter for ground poles though because they're not jumping them. You might need to google the exact measurements and then see how many steps you get though because people's steps are different lengths haha

    • @Zazzysylvester
      @Zazzysylvester 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      two and four steps. I usually take four steps between each pole then you can both trot and gallop them.

    • @scarletttoohey-crock6637
      @scarletttoohey-crock6637 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on the horse galloways are usually 3 bigger steps and horses are usually 4

      At most shows the jumps will be set for a 12ft stride. So to set up two poles for that, add 6ft for the landing of the first jump and add 6ft for the take off of the second jump. Then add in how many strides you want in between, each stride being 12 ft. (Say if you want a 3 stride jump, that's 36 feet plus 6ft for landing and 6ft for take off. So you would have 48 ft in between your two jumps for a three stride jump)

    I recently had a bad fall of my 23 (more like 3 year old) warmblood percheron, i set up a bounce probably 45 cm tall. I cantered him up to it the first was ok the second one he pulled down his head a few milla seconds later his head was between his front legs i couldnt get him back up and i basically fell one way and he ran the other. I landed on my hip and ribs. I got back on and tried again i lost some confidence and he can pick up on that, i kept doubting myself and thinking i was gonna fall i pulled him out once then tried again 3 more times but he kept running out we ended it off and i had to go to the doctors i couldnt walk or even raise my arm, they thought i had 2 cracked ribs and something done to my hip but thank god it was only a minor chip. Ive asked a lot of experts what to do and i was recommended a running martingale. Ive bought one hoping it can help me keep his head up. Putting his head down after jumps has been an ongoing habit of his for as long as i can remember. Any tips?? After watching this video i feel i now have a better understanding of striding. This sure will help me😊P.S. your the best rider ever😍

    I've always heard people say a stride is four steps, but when I do that the stride space looks super small. And I do not have small feet! Does anyone get this as well? And how many steps is equivalent to 1m?
