    I don't know if you know this, but the steering system on those trucks are just the smaller version of what are on your commercial trucks.

    Dream work tool right there, the AWD with a normal pickup bed must be the perfect setup.

      We would like to use one of these chassis and build a " Factory" style pick up. It would be pretty straight forward using the 2015-2019 pickup bed (Dual Wheel bed or go really custom using a single rear wheel bed)

      I haven't seen any around in the RV capital of the world yet. Hopefully, if someone does use this new chassis in our area they will have us upfitt with the Kelderman air suspension.

    I’m wanting to build a luxury hauler and I’m looking at different trucks. The gray freightliner in this video…how does it compare to the 5500? Build and ride quality and comfort level? Just curious. Also, did the 5500 factory air option include the front or just the rear? I think the kelderman air kit is the best way to go who is the best installer?

    You indicated 49 inches between the rear axle and back end is critical. Why? Can that measurement be shorter, to move payload CG forward?

    • @haulertrucks
      @haulertrucks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is critical only for the beds we produce not to exceed that 49" measurement. Our beds are designed to be 110" overall length for a 60"CA truck or 134" overall for an 84" CA truck. We wouldn't bob or shorten the tail of our bed to bring it closer to the rear axle. I'm sure guys that build small wreckers order the trucks with mid ship fuel tanks and bob the frame to make their beds as short as possible. Thank you for the question.

I will take a look at them and we can put together an idea of what you would like built. Then I can get you a quote put together. I know nothing about trucks but can you explain the air tank between the running boards on the 4500? I’m also curious about the red cap in front of the forward rubbing board. Thanks.

    • @haulertrucks
      @haulertrucks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a storage air tank. You can get onboard compressed air even if it doesn't have a factory air suspension. This allows you to use the compressed air for anything you would need compressed air for. I.E. low tire, air tools or maybe an air ride hitch. The red cap towards the front is the factory 12V jumper lug.

    • @haulertrucks
      @haulertrucks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That should be very close. I would have to double-check the finished weight and subtract that to find out. You should be really close to that number.

    • @johnlynch78
      @johnlynch78 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m very curious about the 5th wheel tire capacity as well as Luxe seems to be pairing these with their Luxe 5th Wheel RVs which are a 24,000 lb unit.

    • @michaelhebert9481
      @michaelhebert9481 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Was really interested in a 5500 had a huge Texas dealer tell me they were not built to be trucks to pull trailers. Carrying flatbed loads was fine, but it would prove difficult pulling 20k lb fifthwheel. Possibly even void warranty in the right application. Easy decision

    • @haulertrucks
      @haulertrucks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelhebert9481 GCWR is for sure the issue with these chassis. Some of the gear options would allow it to pull some of our smallest coaches.

    • @haulertrucks
      @haulertrucks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnlynch78 you are correct with the weight concern. The GCWR of these chassis isn't capable of pulling our large 24,000Lb units. It would be limited to our smallest coaches. We actually recommend any of the DRW 3500 and 350 and 450 pickups. They are a great paring without our upfit. The best in class option currently with our hauler bed is the RAM 4500 and 5500. The Ford F-450 and F-550 chassis cabs will work but on paper for the GCWR you are looking at a 488 gear ratio. The Ford chassis cabs come in a a Lariat as their top tier. The RAM comes in a limited in the chassis cab. This seems to be a very important selling point for it as well.

    • @haulertrucks
      @haulertrucks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are ok for smaller lighter 5th wheels. It's all about pairing up the GVWR and the GCWR for what you are looking to pull.

    • @haulertrucks
      @haulertrucks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! I believe the biggest issue is the HP and Torque rating that gives them such a low GCWR.

      @haulertrucks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel,
      Thank You for your inquiry. This specific bed on this 5500 MD 84" CA and all of its options is $25,715.00 installed, painted, and turnkey complete. If you would like to talk more about this please call me at 574-522-8422 and ask for Cory or email me at chavens@utilitybodywerks.com. I can provide you a detailed price sheet and we can talk more about the options you would like to have on your build.
      We wouldn't do the sleeper portion of the build. There are a handful of shops around our area that could do this and we would work with them to be sure their modification works with our bed.

    Way don’t you do a RAM 5500 or any 5500 truck with a pick up bed on it to see what it look like.

    • @johnlynch78
      @johnlynch78 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For pulling a 5th wheel with these 4500/5500 trucks with a pickup bed, you will likely have serious clearance issues between the trailer and the bed side walls. I believe this is what makes (to me, at least) the flat (ish) bed a really attractive fit.

    What do you want, a Cadillac? It's better to ride "bad" if you say so, and no Fancy cab full of video games like the 1500s have, rather than have more components to replace and deal with in the long run, if i buy one im all about the outside looks and capabilities of the truck, i don't care about mi cab having no video games in it and and not riding like a Cadillac sedan, like come on it's a truck.
