  • 📖 Follow along with the official Bible in a Year Reading Plan: tinyurl.com/yz...
Fr. Mike introduces us to the Gospel of Matthew, including his genealogy, nativity, and the first days of his ministry. He pulls it all together to show that not only is Jesus reconstituting the kingdom in his ministry, but he's inviting us to join him in this kingdom. Today’s readings are Matthew 1-4, and Proverbs 18:17-20.
We hear every day from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. You can make a gift of financial support to help defray these costs and enable us to keep bringing evangelizing digital media to all those searching for God: tinyurl.com/yf... So excited about hearing Matthew. Some people, those that aren't Catholic might be confused about Mary's virginity too. Joseph never knew her. She remained a virgin. Jesus was the only child she gave birth to. She is a mother to all of us. I ❤ u Mother Mary. 🙏

I love the fact that when Jesus was baptised, we know this region is the lowest place on earth, this whole action was about his death and resurrection, and when he was transfigured God chose to do it on Mount Hermon, the highest mountain in that region. I sometimes see this bible like a spirograph, the patterns and contrasts that we find are just beautiful.
As you know there are denominational differences on interpreting the scriptures, in fact it wasn't until I got on here that it hit home so much, I had never looked at myself as a Protestant, rather a Christian who was Baptist. It soon became apparent, and on The Chosen page that the divide is alive and well.
All that is to say I remember watching a TH-cam video about a Mormon missionary who left his faith, after an encounter with a pastor. This pastor said to him "Go and read your bible like a child would" he did and it changed his life. I started to look up about perpetual virginity, and see that the word 'until' in the Greek is cited as proof. Although I like to delve deeper, this pastors words came to mind, I don't have the desire to argue the point, I just for a minute there became a teenager again😄

Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. I do not know all their needs, but you do, Lord. I offer them to you with confidence that you hear our prayers. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, discerning, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand and revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. May the Holy Spirit give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Please give me the grace to set aside my intellect and my know-it-all attitude and let your Word speak to my heart and my soul. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Thank you and praise you for the gift of perseverance and for nourishing us with your word! Amen.

Understanding the Holy Bible, hearing online mass, OLPS novena has made me calm & brought me peace & reconciliation within myself.
As a child was very sickly, never reached school on time, missed catechism clas & Sunday school. My family was distraught n all siblings missed Sunday school.
We are still distraught, the devil is always around 😡 but with your prayers my family will find peace & the road to Jesus. Amen 🙏
I sing it's me, it's me, it's me O Lord, standing in the need of prayer, not my brother, not my sister, but it's me O Lord, standing in the need of prayer🙏
    Change begins with me.
Jesus meek & humble of heart, make my heart little bit like yours. Give me a tiny bit of your wisdom🙏
    Jesus I trust in Thee🙏
Our God is God above all Gods
We have a Great Big Wonderful God 📢
    Blessed be God forever🙏
Pray for me. I am praying for you.
    Thank you. God Bless 🙏
    Have a nice day.

Amazing episode today! I have always wondered why frankincense and muhr! You did a great job tying so much of the old testament into the readings today. It's amazing how much more I got from mathews genealogy today than the first few times I read his gospel on my own! I was blown away when I heard the name manassah, the worst king in kings is part of Jesus's genealogy. God can make GOOD out Evil! Thank You so much Father Mike! This journey with you has been amazing! I can't tell you how many times I have been lost during the reading and you explain it and open my eyes! May God continue to give all of us WISDOM! GOD BLESS EVERYONE!

    Round Two
Looking for people to pray for Souls in Purgatory with me!
According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory:
    The Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen

Got to know Mathew in the Chosen..He made me laff..Jesus asked him to help him write his speech for the Mount..And Mathew asked he why he couldn't be more direct in speech because he thought Jesus spoke in riddles...lol..But Jesus said some will understand and some will not understand and Jesus enjoyed putting poetry into his wording..no so simple and direct..Mathew was very direct in speaking to Jesus as all the apostles...All of the apostles did not especially enjoy hanging with Mathew..they still loved him, but would rather not work with him and Jeus especially matched him up with Simon( Peter)..lol..

“And behold, angels came and ministered to him”. Highlight the words MINISTERED TO HIM. So what does that mean specifically? Like, were the angels “informing” him for lack of a better expression? What was this interaction between Jesus and angels? I’m very curious and could talk about this all day.

    Proverbs 18
17 - The first person to speak in court always seems right until his opponent begins to question him.
18 - If two powerful people are opposing each other in court, casting lots can settle the issue.
19 - Help your relatives and they will protect you like a strong city wall, but if you quarrel with them, they will close their doors to you.

May I recommend the song Joseph's Lullaby by Michael Crawford. It's a nice song that is song from the point of view of Joseph taking care of a baby Jesus, and Joseph basically song Jesus what kind of father could he be to Jesus. It's a beautiful song

Just a heads up, the ordering of the episodes in the TH-cam playlist is mixed up here! Day 258 plays before the Messianic Checkpoint episode with Jeff.

The genealogy was cool, but what is the significance? It establishes where Joseph comes from but not Mary who is blood related to Jesus. Why not have the genealogy of Mary in the first part of Matthew? Mary is the one people admire and pray to, not Joseph. Please advise.

Many saints and scholars hold that Luke is tracing Jesus’s genealogy through his mother, Mary, while Matthew traces it through his adoptive father, Joseph.

Also, a lot of people pray to St. Joseph. It is the Year of St. Joseph after all. Devotion to St. Joseph is widespread throughout the Church.

How should I understand the phrase,,Then he (Joseph) took her(Mary) , but he did not know her until the Child was born(....) "? At first reading this I was shocked and thought how could this be, I think Mary stayed a Virgin all life long?!

The priest at my parish posits that Joseph wanted to spare Mary shame and death and that he decided to make himself the bad guy in the eyes of the public by making it seem like he had gotten Mary pregnant and then abandoned her.

Father Mike in Matthew 2:16 where it tells us that Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary the mother of Jesus wasn't that Jakob the father of Joseph that was sold by his brothers and taken to Egypt. Was Heli not the father of Joseph, Mary's husband?

“The only baby born to die”.? I’m sure there are some who would argue that point. Though I understand why Bishop Sheen said it.

I think Shakespeare demonstrated the merit of todays proverb in his play “Julius Ceaser.”
