It's a shock to the senses when you first arrive. All the noise, smells, colors. Imagine going to work everyday in the west 9-6pm on your daily commute where everyone is suited & booted. Your town centre is shopping malls, clean and clinical. All of a sudden you to come to India, Bangladesh or Pakistan and this is how it is.

Thanks for all these videos. Put me down as one of the people who appreciate you showing us ordinary people living their lives and the beauty they live around. I think we all have seen enough malls, or fashionable places to eat in our own lives. Keep treating people with peace, respect and love and don't listen to the bots acting like or people who have their own agenda!

Speaking for myself, I appreciate the way Gabriel travels through the countries he visits. Sure, I'm always interested in the financial side of his wandering, but that isn't generally his primary focus. What keeps me coming back is the kinda Zen way he accepts and flows with the culture he encounters. I wouldn't be at all interested in seeing only the biggest and best of whichever country he travels through.

One thing I enjoy about these videos is the little interactions you see between people. Example around 8:25 when the driver of a rickshaw taps a man as he's driving by, just to warn him about his back tire. Really interesting dynamics!

the bangla spoken in BD 🇧🇩 is a very spl. dialect as it infuses a lot of emotion with the utterance of the worlds unlike the indian dialects
the guy was agitated because of the maddening crowd and traffic, he was telling others to move aside quickly to make a passage for your easy movement while holding the camera as he noticed that you are not a local

Hi Gabriel, this was interesting at the end of the walk you met a couple of guys one of these guys is wearing a NY Yankee cap, and in NYC in the Bronx, New York there is a Bangladesh community that has moved from Queens NY because of the cost of rent and homes. They're a tight-knit community there changing the landscape of the community and being a part of the new immigrants to the area.

Look what I found on Wikipedia: The Petrapole-Benapole border ceremony takes place every evening from 1630 to 1700. This joint retreat ceremony of 30 minutes resulting in lowering of national flags of India and Bangladesh is jointly conducted by BSF (Border Security Force) and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh).
The "Wagah of the East" as it is known, the Petrapole-Benapole border ceremony starts off with opening of gates on India and Bangladesh side. After a quick friendly handshake between the BSF and BGB infantrymen, the soldiers march into the "no man's land" in their respective ceremonial dresses and battle dress uniform. Ceremonial theatrics by the BSF and BGB are at the heart of the ceremony and is attended by Military officials of both countries. The ceremonial parade ends before sunset and the flags of either countries are lowered. The gates on either side of the border are closed for the day.
Since the border retreat ceremony was initiated in 2013, not many tourists are aware of this event. The crowd at the ceremony consists mostly of locals and very few tourists. After the retreat ceremony, the BSF jawans pose for a photo shoot with civilians or tourists in their ceremonial dress.

I find vids of Bangladesh so interesting. Yes the cities can be dirty and filthy but to me that is expected. What you are seeing is mass urbanization of a formerly rural population. This is what industrialization looks like - its ugly and brutal. I don't see much social disorder - what I do see is people BUSY working, going to school, travelling, etc. Cities in China looked the same in the 80's.
Many people want to project India on to Bangladesh. There is cultural influence of India in Bangladesh but it is very much a different country to India. The population of Bangladesh is homogenous, 98% identify as the same ethnic group and speak the same language. It allows for high social cohesion. No other country in South Asia is like this.

I imagine the elderly are well taken care of by family. I do not see any handicapped people like you would see in usa like people in scooters etc. Is there a garbage system at all? The streets seem fairly clean. Is the air thick ? Is there an odor in the air of the spices?. Why some men wear the dress or skirt like cover and others mostly in blue jeans?
