This is pretty good. But I can tell Heroes' physics isn't made for Adventure 2 level design. It's like the characters are overpowered with Heroes physics.
Thank you! And very much so lol. In fact, the pc version of heroes actually makes the characters even faster due to the porting process. But even that aside, jumps being higher and flying being being a thing make it very different playthrough than with SA2 Shadow. A seaside hill port to SADX demonstrates how the reverse works out: th-cam.com/video/L_KlVJ3EV3A/w-d-xo.html If I was going to do a level from scratch, I'd definitely try a bit harder to account for it all. Even some of the main game stages sometimes feel a bit cramped with how the characters feel imo.
Allegedly, the console versions of the characters run at 80% of the speed of the PC characters. Admittedly, I haven't tested this extensively personally, but it does seem to be the case.
Shadowth117 So between emulating the game via dolphin and getting the PC version, which one would provide the better experience (functional and gameplay wise)?
Gamecube is probably the better experience by a tad right now although there's some fixes that basically put the PC version on par with more to come. Gamecube's version will probably also never support mods to this extent. So essentially GC for the original experience, PC for mod support for the future.
This translated so well! If they ever did a new Sonic Heroes game, they should have a secret level like this for each team. Like Angel Island Zone for Team Sonic, Palmtree Panic Zone for Team Rose, and Isolated Island for Team Chaotix.
Thank you, it took a great deal of effort piecing together everything for it. While I feel that I could have done a lot better with the cameras (Heroes cameras are complicated and unfortunately not straightforward to make), I put a great deal of effort into all aspects and worked to get everything as accurate as it could be. A few times, I had to make the choice between keeping one aspect of an object or another (The spinning NiGHTS heads have a functional texture animation sequence that doesn't work with the spinning animation). There's even a few random things that are fixed between this version of the stage and what's in SA2. I learned a ton about the game and modding in general working on this and I'm thankful the fruits of that have been good for many.
Thanks! It was probably the first since tools really came out to fully make use of everything available. I tried to put in everything I could to make it accurate to the original. :D
Well, I'm not 100% sure how PS4 PSN works compared to Xbox One, but on Xbox One you can often play old 360 games. Heroes actually got a PS3 port oddly so you might be able to download it on PS4. Maybe.
Great mod btw. Just wondering is like SA2 hard to mod? Because I see mods for sadx heroes and beyond, but never for SA2, sure I see Skins for the Chao, but nothing important or fan made.
SA2 has unfortunately not been looked into as much due to mod tool programmers having a lack of interest and there being a lack of understanding on formats. This could be changing in the next few years though. JCorvinus aka CorvidDude has been really pushing to fix things up with the old tools and there's been an interest in adding proper support for SA2 things. So hopefully that'll happen soonish. When it does, expect mods from me for it! SA2 is probably one of my favorite games of all time.
To be fair, that's potentially fixable, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure it out at the time. The heroes camera settings are a bit of a nightmare to work with and near the end of the level, nothing like that wanted to work right.
Porting a a whole different level from a game that works "similar but not really" should be a nightmare indeed, this looks solid though, already more than just "playable"
It's funny you mention that. It *IS* actually possible to an extent right now with the same level editor we have, HeroesPowerPlant. However while we can get the level geometry and collision in, things like grind rails, loops, and various objects may not be possible right now unfortunately though.
Not to mention, how badly would Chaos Control screw the level up? Or are there not enough places for the right enemies to possibly build up and trigger Chaos Control? You don’t have to worry about what Chaos Control does if you can only obtain Chaos Blast in the level.
You can control the path Chaos Control takes, but I would probably only place Chaos Blast building enemies since they fit better narratively. It sort of depends too on the level it goes over.
That was top notch. :D, The only thing I would do differently myself if possible is change the spinning bits that you use to roll under to be smashable because that just feels more fun. A+ I didn't even know heroes had a modding scene.
Digiflower5 Thanks, yeah the modding scene is from within the last year basically. Can't change the collision model for stuff atm, but that would have been a good idea. If you want to mod it yourself btw, the discord in the description is the place to go.
Shadowth117 HEY! Thats a good one XD Btw, this video just come out of my recomendation feed and i felt the need of shared it to the world: a girl beating The Nameless King with a Dance Dance Revolution Pad as a controller, maybe you saw it before but anyway... take it, is awesome.... th-cam.com/video/UxKsRf6R-vc/w-d-xo.html
I’ve never seen this video before, but I’ve had a dream regarding sonic heroes, and the map looked a LOT similar to this. A city landscape at night with many street lights, stories above the ground
I've had some ideas for a kaizo sonic heroes. The difficulty would be the opposite from the original game with team dark being the easiest and team rose being the hardest
Well, feel free to join our discord if you want to learn how to set that up: discordapp.com/invite/Ku9KRy6 Our level editor, HeroesPowerPlant, is coming along very nicely and supports just about everything important for making levels and we've done a lot of research into how everything works.
LLol, if you wanna do speedrun, you'd rather take sonic team. Shadow's are all about to decimate all enemies in map and your total points grades you. Not your finishing time.
It’s fun watching the fan base of Sonic games mod to make the games more enjoyable. Still waiting for Sega to give up more control to show what we can really do to help out the Blue Blur.
I'll do my best not to let that happen again. It was really late, wasn't at my home computer, but I wanted to get it out for everyone. Not too much to say, but this is probably the only video where I've actually had it in on accident and by chance it ended up my most watched.
Ya know, honestly, this could work out great, hell I could see a fan game coming from something like that. You’d maybe have to fine tune the level design to fit hero’s style just a tad better. But I can definitely see it, and you could perhaps use other levels from SA2 or other sonic games as vase templates. Couse that would be way more time than perhaps what it’s worth but I could see it. I’ve always loved these sorts of retakes on classic level designs. Excellent work all around. It flows really well, and you did this yourself right?
Yeah, I ported it myself. Dumped from SALVL, ripped a bunch of things in 3d Ripper Dx, vertex painted manually since I couldn't dump with that done. The goal of this was to be as accurate to the original game within Heroes's engine as I could have it within reason given the tools that were available. Other levels may happen depending on how things go, but we'll see what happens. Sewer56lol, the creator of both mod loaders for Heroes, is interested in putting together a large collaborative project at some point.
Shadowth117 I can’t wait to see the fruits of that, because this was really well done. You did excellent at playing close to the original piece while still using the heroes format. I personally liked the varied style the this format allows in terms of gameplay, and honestly with polish, i could see these levels again with light variations becoming much more capable of fitting the style. As of now I just know this SA2 level probably gave you some trouble seeing how much faster these characters go in terms of physics. I’ve been rooting for the modding and fan game communities for quite some time, so any new well made renditions of levels are greatly appreciated in my eyes. Mainly because it shows how good you guys are at working with the material. I’d like to see a Whitehead esque surge of 3d sonic fan projects in the older style. And tell Sewer56lol he does a great job with the mod loader, cause it appears to work well. Honestly, I wish I could get more into this kind of stuff myself, but I unfortunately have to work on getting college out of the way. That and a job lol, but I will definitely keep up with you guys, cause I’m loving what i’m seeing so far as I really liked heroes when I was younger, and still do to a degree.
Thanks! Definitely did what I could although the level has parts that just don't work with Heroes speeds (I mulled it over for a while, but eventually just slowed the player down at the bottom of the first big ramp with air boosters). And I passed that on to Sewer. If I'm going to be honest, SA2 is my favorite Sonic game, but mod support just isn't there for it to the level of SADX or Heroes at the moment. That said, if that changes expect to see some stuff from me for it. I'd certainly love to see an Adventure style 3d Sonic project one day, but that kind of thing gets very complex very quickly so it might be a while. As far as my own projects, at the very least, I'm highly considering a big original level for Heroes or SADX as my senior project at my own college so we'll see how that goes. I'm very interested in landing a job myself and hoping that I can manage something or other serious in the gaming industry.
For a sec I thought it was a unlockable hidden stage like Sonic adventure 2 When you collect 120 emblems & get to play green hill zone in 3ds But this is cool too
Lol Thanks! Yeah it was very exciting to be able to make 2d animations for it. I tried my best to make it accurate. The one sad thing is the timing is off depending on the power of your PC, but it was very cool to get so close to the original.
I can tell heroes Physics dont work for this cuz in a normal gameplay you would die falling many times but with Shadow physics it probably could ve worked better Edit:awesome work,is this even possible?? Someone still likes that incredible game!! (Plz make more videos like that)

Ah, no, sorry. I'm a different Shadow =w=; I never went into anything as complicated as moveset modding for that game. Hope you find a copy again some day though.
You'll want to use this mod loader: gamebanana.com/tools/download/6424 You basically just set up a game profile with it for heroes and then you can do the 1 click reloaded download from my link. Assuming you installed the mod loader, it should be able to just set the mod up for you. From there you just enable it and launch heroes. If you already downloaded it, just place the "Radical Highway" folder containing the config.cc and such into the mod directory you chose. The stage won't work right for a few reasons if you put it straight into dvdroot.
Shadowth117 Yeah I went on the website and saw. Should be simple enough I think a video would be awesome though! For those who are noobs at modding haha (like myself) Also you've earned yourself a new sub. Keep up the good work!
TheLegendaryToast7 Tldr, unfortunately yes it is. Real answer, the only way to do this for every console would be to find very specific areas in their executables unique entirely to each version and to have a way to load lots of changes into them. While Reloaded can technically achieve the latter on emulators pretty well, the former is a very tough and time consuming task. Maybe one day...
Hey, when I added the mod to my Reloaded Mod loader, enabled it, started the game, then clicked on seaside hill, it would just spawn me on an invisible rail miles about Seaside hill itself. Do you know what I might be doing wrong? (I did make sure to use the Reloaded version).
