By Morghur this is so accurate. For those who are wondering what the hell those landships are, here's the story behind them (spoilers from Tamurkhan Throne of Chaos): Before Big T decided to invade the Empire through the trousers, Marienburg contacted Nuln to build them some steam tanks of their own. Unfortunately Nuln doesn't know how to build them because Leonardo De Miraligino (the creator of steam tanks) died and his designs stolen or destroyed (probably skaven involved because why not). As such one of their crazier engineers decided to build a different kind of steam tank and design it in a manner to look like a ship cos the dickheads at Marienburg are vain people who also are a port city. Crazy thing is that these landships actually worked! They worked so well that these ships and a few outriders and pistoleers charged the chaos dwarf lines and caused enough damage to their siege guns that they had to retreat.
I mean wood is cheaper and when Applying the same method used to make battle ships, it would make them almost immune to gun fire, combine that with placing troops with Cannons it so crazy that it might actully work
And actually a fun fact about renaissance engineers is that often if they wrote a book on their creation. It was a common practice for them to make the measurements slightly off or use materials that would absolutely not work as a form of job security so that's why I think it's very hard to test Leonardo da Vinci snuff in our timeline and probably why no one figure out how Leonardo Warhammer fantasy built the steam tanks because it was all in his head and he didn't tell anybody how he did it.
And the chaos dwarfs destroyed all but one, which was heavily damaged. They also supported the land ship charge with a river barge for floating near the battle.
Issue with steam is a construction of its engine , its small but at a same time also more … dangerous. Nuln did had they’re pattern of steam engines but its was too big for putting it into a tank construction … so instead they put it into a bloody ship hull
Funny thing is - inside there is the almost the same steam engine. But larger, because only Leonardo knew, how to make smaller but same effective engine. And because of engine size and mass - they scrapped idea of making tank, because the weight of the tank would be too grand to move, and they made Land Ship instead. And Marienbirg somehow were not opposed of that (probably because they already spent too much money). And Drazoath The Ashen thought that these land ships are the famed steam tanks. And laughed. But then they started to shoot. Cannons and muskets.
And I'm actually starting to think that the Nuln engineers actually did a better job than Leonardo ever could because because it may not be as tanky as his design but I think it has far more fire power and even if it is smashed, it can be used as the defensive tower depending on how it breaks
