  • There is a lot of romance associated with Indian Railways (IR); the history and the legacy. While celebrating this enchantment as a railway man, why and how Indian Railways must rise above it and afford our country sustainable solutions to make itself a transport befitting a country still trying to leap into the 21st century. Sudhanshu Mani retired in the apex grade of Government of India from the Indian Railways (IR) Service of Mechanical Engineering as General Manager, Integral Coach Factory, Chennai after serving Indian Railways for 38 years. He led the Train 18/Vande Bharat Express project, the first-ever indigenous semi high-speed train of India, from concept to delivery. His journey in leading and completing this unique project is recounted in his best-seller book, "My Train Story". This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Having settled down in Chennai after retirement, I was a person who witnessed all the enthusiasm and sense of ownership exhibited by the employees of ICF during the time train 18 was conceived, designed and built. For an elderly person who in the distant past been an ICF employee I could see the dramatic change in each and every ICF employee, their sense of proud ownership, making a dream come true. Freedom to think big and making the dream a product of perfection is absolutely necessary if India has to move forward and keep abreast with the leaders of the world. Gopal

@Mani Sudhanshu ❤️❤️❤️❤️If the train runs 100kms loop x18 runs a day it takes 21k passengers per 100kms if it does 9runs in day 200kms loops it does 10k passengers w 9 runs /day and if it does 300kmsx6 runs per day it can carry 7k passengers so first it must b made 2do exactly that... either 10k passengers/200kms or 7k passengers over300kms/day initially❤️❤️❤️❤️ in India w so high population reruns matter pleaseeee railways attend nd focus ur attention to this... Urgently... If ur really interested in developing India as a nation nd that's the best regards 2ur groups invention nd hardwork nd it shd reach the public this is what people want... So do focus ur attention to decongest please the best way possible.... A big thanks to u nd team... So the idea shd b that reaches the masses... The common man u have risen from amongst us and so many others u have a duty to pass the batten nd extend ur hand to pull them up.. Ur hand does matter in the voiceless Ness of India as a nation💯🌹🌹🌹... Railways will make money don't worry about it at all... Let's improve from thr

It's like watching Steve Jobs talking about the 'i' products - the passion and the artistry, around a vision , albeit for the country.
Another karma yogi from the Indian Railways, akin to 'the Metro Man' N.Shridharan , to move mountains and make it happen.
    Kudos to you Sir..

Enjoyed the extremely motivating talk by Mr. Sudhanshu Mani for "An Aspirational India embodying the spirit of Atma Nirbhar Bharat."
He has beautifully outlined his vision to improve Indian Railways' professionalism with increased sustainability . And , his presentation has been given a classic poetic touch.
As aimed by Mr. Mani , the proof of the pudding will ultimately lie in the benefits trickling down to the sections of the society associated with the Railways in the the following manner :
    1) Making comfortable air conditioned travel accessible to the vast majority of travellers through lower fares
    2) Facilitating dignity for Railway porters through mechanized aids
    3) Ensuring respectability to the railway cleaning staff by equipping them mechanical cleaning equipment.
    4) Making railway production units centres for generation of solar power
    5) Expanding the scope of Railways to protection of neighbouring environment.
    6) Empowering the women labour force to excel by themselves in areas hitherto restricted to male workers
To make all the above goals a reality we need to Foster the Right Professional Environment wherein:
    a) We Encourage Innovation
    b) We Ensure that Innovation gets Converted into Technology
    c) Ensure that Technology is Safeguarded by Ownership.
Only when the above prerequisites are met, can we instil a feeling of Pride in one's Ownership of Technology.
Only the stimulating Professional Pride can give a worker / employee an impetus to the Spirit to Excel.
But for the above sequence of desired ends to be achieved , one needs to inculcate the following elements in one's own INDIVIDUAL WORK CULTURE
    i) Need to Love the Work one is engaged with.
ii) Need to Love the People one works with in one's team
iii) Need to Love the Organization that one belongs to
Simultaneously, the following ORGANIZATIONAL RESTRUCTURING will have to be achieved incorporating the following changes:
    a) Breaking the Shackles of Feudal Propriety.
    b) Breaking the Rigidities of Protocol
    c) Harnessing the latent Human Resources of the working team
Only , when these attitudinal and structural changes are effected , can we usher in the right environment for the employees in the Indian Railways.
Only then can they achieve the desired goals through their own self motivating traits:
    i) Empathy
    ii) Commitment to Work
iii) Joyous attitude while at work
This is the Summary of Mr. Sudhanshu Mani's "Mission Reboot, Revive Railways for Sustenance"!
Thank you very much , Sir, for sharing your far sighted and deep rooted mission. It is bound to inspire not only an ardent Railway person but also any well meaning professional with fire in his/ her belly.
    Yours sincerely,
    Himakar Tata

Some hard hitting lessons on IR of the past and the future, straight from the heart of the innovator of Train 18, the Vande Bharat Express!
Watch till the end! Its so heart warming to see a large group of hard working group of young women building a coach in ICF ..... with no men in sight!!!

Good that I had come to know your experience of ICF... else I was thinking, it was MODI who built this train... because everywhere he will only come to wave the flag. Also now surprise... how come this didn't come as Ambani or Adani's project... Sry Adani & Ambani... you just missed the train. Bad Luck to you & Modi. Lost your credit-taking game.
