I rarely listen to the lyrics of pop songs very closely, but as I wrote in the comments of the live version, this is extremely touching. The beautiful melody and vocals combined with the very serious subject of domestic violence. I have a lump in my throat when I think that there are millions of women and children who suffer from this. However, the song is by no means depressing, on the contrary, it creates a cosy, eerie atmosphere and gives hope. I'm really looking forward to the gig in Cologne!
Mother, leave my father And get me out of this hell Mother, pull the car up We can make a new life for ourselves Mother, leave my father Before he gets back in Mother, I know it's hard But we gotta get away from him Do it for the children Do it for me Mother, leave my father And save me from this life Mother, get an apartment And learn to love someone kind Mother, hear my heart It's thumping like the skin of a drum Mother, I love who you are But you gotta be the bigger one Do it for the children Do it for the children And we'll start over again In a house from the magazine Safe inside a picket fence With a great big trampoline And we'll have so many friends They'll live right on down the street And we'll never be scared again We will be a family Mother Leave my father I go up You go down (Da-da-da-da-da) Way up in the clouds I go up You go down (Da-da-da-da-da) Never coming down [Refrain] Mother Leave my father (Leave my father now) Do it for the children Do it for the children And we'll start over again In a house from the magazine Safe inside a picket fence With a great big trampoline And we'll have so many friends They'll live right on down the street And we'll never be scared again We will be a family, family And we'll start over again In a house from the magazine Safe inside a picket fence With a great big trampoline And we'll have so many friends They'll live right on down the street And we'll never be scared again We will be a family, family
The chorus tastes like ice cream on a hot day in the park. It's refreshing for everyone who needs this song to be fulfilled in their lives. Do not give up. Better days will come.
It's only April but it's going to be very tough for anything to top this as my favourite song of 2024. A song that brings a difficult subject to light, and does so without sensationalising it; downbeat verses that give way to a bright, hopeful chorus; Issy's gorgeous crystal-clear vocals, and some 1970s-style fuzz guitar in the middle 8. What's not to love?
This has been my favourite song, it's sooo soothing and beautiful, the strings ARE PERFECT and complement it soo great. Thanks for such a beautiful song
Hoewel de muziek mij iets te bekends klinkt (hoewel zo'n Isley Brothers-scheurgitaar hier goed werkt), is de tekst uiteraard geweldig. Hoopvol, met mooie, lieve details: "And we'll start over again, In a house from the magazine/Safe inside a picked fence, With a great big trampoline/And we'll have so many friends, they'll live right on down the street/And we'll never be scared again, we will be a family." Veilge woorden.
… the video is slowmo but the lip sync fits … so you sing the song in a faster speed? Can‘t stop thinking about it. The result is brilliant. However a „making of“ could be very funny …
Altijd lelijk, zo'n schrijffout eerder in een tekstje ("veilge"), maar ik dank mijn vriend Herman voor deze tip. Ik ga dit liedje, de tekst, samenzang, steeds meer waarderen...

This is sweet but this isn’t a pop song!
My soul needed this! My inner child needed this!🤧
Same same
Mother, leave my father
And get me out of this hell
Mother, pull the car up
We can make a new life for ourselves
Mother, leave my father
Before he gets back in
Mother, I know it's hard
But we gotta get away from him
Do it for the children
Do it for me
Mother, leave my father
And save me from this life
Mother, get an apartment
And learn to love someone kind
Mother, hear my heart
It's thumping like the skin of a drum
Mother, I love who you are
But you gotta be the bigger one
Do it for the children
Do it for the children
And we'll start over again
In a house from the magazine
Safe inside a picket fence
With a great big trampoline
And we'll have so many friends
They'll live right on down the street
And we'll never be scared again
We will be a family
Mother
Leave my father
I go up
You go down (Da-da-da-da-da)
Way up in the clouds
I go up
You go down (Da-da-da-da-da)
Never coming down
[Refrain]
Mother
Leave my father
(Leave my father now)
Do it for the children
Do it for the children
And we'll start over again
In a house from the magazine
Safe inside a picket fence
With a great big trampoline
And we'll have so many friends
They'll live right on down the street
And we'll never be scared again
We will be a family, family
And we'll start over again
In a house from the magazine
Safe inside a picket fence
With a great big trampoline
And we'll have so many friends
They'll live right on down the street
And we'll never be scared again
We will be a family, family
As abused child.... Thank you so much. I cry rn bc this is so beautiful. This is life

Absolute song writing perfection
Great song! So many stay for “the children” when this is what they should be doing.
This came to me as a mother… 😢 Soothing now that all is good. Thank you, a great gift. ❤

Как я хотела бы не понимать о чем говорится в песне, а просто слушать красивую музыку…
Песня о домашнем насилии.
Ребенок просит мать оставить отца и жить лучше.
Lindo!!!! Congratulations!(Brazil)
what a fantastic song - music wise and lyrically!!! Excellent arrangement, impressive performance by both artists ... wow! A truly masterpiece
So genuine, so sweet song!
What a beautiful song. Whelp. Loop it is.
Thank you for this ❤️🩹
Wow, wonderful. Echoes of Zero 7, 4 Hero Les Fleur. Heavy subject combined with a beautiful song.
Zoals eerder geschreven, ga ik dit nummer dus steeds meer waarderen. Ga bij die kerel weg! (Als het kan...)

Came from ig, this song haunts me
Great Song! Love it!!! Can’t wait to see you in Cologne next year! Got my Tickets already!
Same here!
Yep - see you in cologne!
If this song was about candy canes and lollipops it would be more popular!!! It’s a statement of we’re we are still!!!!
This is quite a serious subject but I really like it
I really like the song and video. And you are so beautiful 🫂
Can you also share an acoustic version of this song?
xx
Beautiful!
Ohhhhhh this is so niceeee
❤
Incredible ❤
nice song

However a „making of“ could be very funny …
Probably she sped up the song, sang along to that version then slowed down the video.
