This is literally the highlight of a big piece of my life right now. Getting a bike and hitting a gym hard helped me to cope with a breakup with a lady, who at that time, I thought was my soulmate and future wife. I lost all self-confidence, thinking I am noone and nothing will make my life better. How wrong I was ! Decided to get my sh*t together and live my life to the fullest. Both, cuising a bike and killing my body at the gym helped me to get rid of a bad energy and turned it into something positive. Now I am stronger than ever (both, mentally and phisically) and I am looking forward to the future. Remember gents, always put yourself and your wellbeing first, no matter what ! Stay strong !
I'm 51, bought my first bike this year in May, a 2022 Street Twin, thanks in large part to your review. I've already put 8,000 miles on it riding throughout the Appalachian Mountains of the U.S. - Motorcycling has changed my life for the better. I'm no longer depressed, I've got a better relationship with my kids now, I've lost 30 lbs, and haven't felt this good in years. Thank you for making this. And thanks for all the great content you've created.
What a beautifully put together video . I have only just found your channel. Subbed of course. I am 82 and recently lost my wife after 56 blissful years. Like you I am somewhat introverted but not shy . I find motorcycling my only real relief from the nightmare of grief. A short while after losing my wife I bought a different bike . A lighter one that I can move around and use easily . It gives me freedom and peace . Often I chat to other bikers or just passers by who admire my bike or remember ones they had themselves. I stop at beauty spots and take in the views . It reminds me that life is still worth living even though I am now alone. I love that little tea shop in your vid . Just my kind of place . Enjoy your bikes and your life .. Thomas
I watched this video, and by the time it was finished I had tears in my eyes... I had welled up I don't mind admitting... you, are me... although I am different in stature. Your love of nature, animals and of course motorbikes, is my world. I am introverted, but like you, quiet I am not... I am an older person too, 66 years old shortly, but going through a difficult period of my life which I am determined to get through. Today I was struggling, but just coming across your video has stiffened my resolve to remotivate myself... thank you, from another old bold biker.
I haven't had a bike for 6 years. Been bound up caring for very elderly parents. I keep my dreams alive by making electronic music. This summer I also bought the flippin' motorbike. Love riding my crf300l around the slumpy fen roads.
Motorcycles, weight lifting and my kids are all I live for. I got off anxiety medication a few years ago once I hit the weights again and got my dream Harley. The Smokey Mountains are God's country for bikes and they are my church.
I live in rural Northumberland now, but being retired, easy access to fresh air and my lovely Ducati keeps me very happy…not forgetting my lovely younger wife of 34 years. Never enjoyed work but do love my lovely dog, yes I’m a very happy man, now…but this knowledge comes with a lot of experience, age and many mistakes. Great video…
Wonderful and brave film. I started riding in 1970 but, like many others, put the pastime aside after I met my wonderful wife and began a family and career. In 2001, she was diagnosed with what ended up being terminal cancer. Throughout her illness, the thought of returning to motorcycling kept me somewhat sane. After her passing, I got a bike and took several trips, alone, covering thousands of miles. It got me through it and life eventually worked out. But you are so right, find your passion and grab it. Currently riding a Speedmaster and every ride is therapy.
Your take on being an introvert is perfect. Definitely don't need the noise of people talking, and happy in my own company. Shame some people see it as being miserable, and not just being content.
Summed up why we are all so very similar as motorcycle owners. The peace and tranquility when riding on your own with your thoughts, the love of the countryside, wildlife and the occasional human. Peace bro, ride safe.
You have to forgive yourself and love yourself ever more in this world. Find your happy thing and as you say change things to achieve it. Don't get old with regrets get old with great memories. Lovely film thank you.
Thank you for the video. I'm an introvert but I find riding the bike forces me to get out and I actually talk to people more as they comment on my bike so much.
Three things I don't like about my life: 1. My apathetic, unmotivated friend group I've kept since highschool. 2. The shady part of town that I live in. 3. My alcohol abuse problem. Three things I do like about my life: 1. Finally have my career started in the medical field. 2. My Husqvarna motorbike. 3. Blessed to have a good family. Awesome video. Seeing honest testimonies like this is refreshing and motivating. Thanks!
Do you know what, this is me! I'm 58 now, and been going to the Gym since i was 18! I gave it up in 2015 because i thought i was getting too old for it. Been Depressed ever since! I've bought a new motorbike every year since 2015, and i still seem to be missing something in life, even though i love being out on a bike on my own. This video has made me decide to go back to the Gym. Well done for for making this.
I just turned 59. I work out 6 times a week and have just added a 3rd motorcycle to my garage. These things keep me sane. Life is too short so do it while you can.
This was quite powerful and I appreciate you doing it. I ride alone and never feel lonely. Riding, especially on country roads is an elevated level of consciousness that has to be experienced to be understood. Cheers 🍻
Great film! 60 year old here, who used bikes, my home gym, the great outdoors and my animals to recover from a breakdown in 2013, which resulted in a major life/career 'downsize'. Never been happier than now. Would love a quick tour of the gym. Keep up the good work....
I'm at a little turning point in my life. New job, new city. I guess, it's also a chance at new beginnings. Thank you for the motivation. I sure will try to do better.
I too am moving and getting a bike. Used to work out like he did too. I plan to do that again now. Life is what you make it and this wonderful video helped to encourage my belief in that!
You sir are a legend. I've been all those mentioned above. I recently made the decision to dump the meds, (in consultation with my doctor). The change, has been the way I view myself, my environment and those I love. The first thing I do every day, is to tell myself out loud: today is going to be a great day. Starting with your video, has helped get that off to a cracking start. Thank you.
I think, for me anyway, a lot of us have to experience the absolute low to be able to finally realize what is important. Getting off the treadmill of work, bills, etc is impossible for most people, but getting the balance of what you actually need, being around the right people for you, having something that makes you feel better, which could be sitting listening to nature or going to a thrash metal concert, is so important. My life has changed dramatically in the last 3 years to what it was, and I’m on my way back up, so to speak. You don’t have to have the newest bike, or the expensive foreign holiday, you can do both for a lot less and still get the same, or even more joy. One more thing I would add. Talk to people if you’re not doing well. If they don’t like it or don’t want to know then I’d suggest they shouldn’t be in your life. Thanks for the video.
Great video, thanks. As a Mental Health Nurse of 36 years I can say there is some fantastic advice in there. Beautiful part of the world North & Mid Wales, spent some of the best parts of my childhood & early adult years knocking around there on bikes
As someone who's been kicking depressions arse for the past 10 years I can relate to a lot of the things said here. Thank you for being open about mental health as too many people end up silently desperate if they don't talk and work on theirs.
Three things Don’t like - 1)Still haven’t bought my W800 2)Still haven’t settled my debts 3)Still haven’t found the courage to be in a relationship. Do like 1) Realised I am a good teacher and that my students adore me, makes me proud every time they teach others what I ve taught them. 2) Mentally & physically in a far better place, workout and do my Yoga everyday.. I make the bodybuilders at the gym, sit with me for Yoga sessions and they have become injury free.. 3) Figured out who I truly am and what my purpose is on this beautiful journey and grateful to the rest of humanity, especially to our forefathers. The solution to the financial part is on its way, but the relationship part, got no clue.. In India, relationship is one crazy terminology and isn’t easy. Things are rather weighed in pros and cons with decisions involving the rest of the family.. You ain’t pleasing just the one you love but their entire family too .. Last year a friend had to break up a relationship of 8 years simply coz the girl’s father didn’t like the caste/ creed this boy belongs too. No other reason, none.. Funny how this side of the world works in this time and age. We are way advanced in technology yet still 2000 years behind culturally.
As someone who struggles at times I cannot understate the importance of having something in your life that gets you out doing stuff. Riding bikes is a big one for me. With and without engines.
I cannot express how good gym is for mental health its almost like meditation and makes you feel fantastic. Lifting weights halves your chance of most major illness such as brain disease, skeletal or heart issues too. it also massively reduces ageing go look at some of those guys who lift into there 70s and 80s they look 20 years younger. Gym also boosts confidence massively by proxy. You don't even realise until you done it a while you just become a far more confident person.
Thanks for this, the more this type of thing is talked about, the more it will become common place and not "off limits" or a stigma. I made a huge decision 2 1/2 years ago when I turned 50 and bought my first bike, a 2016 Moto Guzzi V7ii Stone, and started riding. I had wanted to ride my whole life-but never did because there was always that voice in my head and everybody's opinion about what motorcycles are and are not.
I have struggled with being quiet and interverted all my life. But now at 49 I just embrace it. That is just me. Nothing to worry about. Thank you for giving us your thoughts and insight. Great video.
This is an important well-rounded message. Having a sense of well being is more than just working out or riding a bike or any one thing you can think of. It’s a combination of all of it. And yes, doing the things that inspire each of us is key. 💯% agree! Thanks for taking the time to produce it.
After watching this I was inspired, so I married a stripper, bought a Rocket 3 and now I'm on the run from the police. Changed my life!...Great video! LOL
Watched this video twice, back to back. The wife says it's her favorite video. "Take what's happened to you and make it your strength." Well done, sir. Well done.
Working from home during covid lockdown and getting seriously tired of the groundhog day lifestyle made me finally commit to my long term interest of getting my first large bike (and only bike I've ever really had properly registered for road use etc). I was honestly terrified after I got off the phone from the dealer when I had committed to buying my RE Interceptor. Pretty sure I was literally shaking. I was (still sorta am) worried about the dangers of motorbikes and seemed convinced I had signed my death certificate by getting it, and was even worried what my parents would think (even though I was bloody 29!). The day I went down to pick it up a couple of hours train ride away I was similarly scared and in a worried mindset where I was expecting the worst and thinking I'd made a huge mistake. Now 2.5 years later I'm still alive and well and riding that motorbike is still something that gives me a thrill every time. I've met great people through riding, and taking it out is a favourite activity for me and my girlfriend (who's newer than the bike) to do together. If I need some time to think, a ride by myself is a great way to do it. Sometimes on a nice day in the right environment, with some good music through the in-helmet speakers it makes me feel seriously overcome with joy and absolutely loving being alive. Weird to say but it almost makes you feel like you could shed a tear with joy sometimes, and that's just cruising along calmly! The great bike experience, as with a couple of other things I've done in my life that I was originally scared of but ended up enjoying, is making me less worried about trying other new things. TL:DR - I agree, buy the flipping bike!
100%. I’m 67 and believe this to be truth speak. Training, working out, the gym, has been an integral part of my life since high school. For much the very same reasons and rationale. Now having the behavior in place, a healthy lifestyle’s benefits are more clear. It’s about Quality of life being the most important element when the quantity is not guaranteed. Very well said here. Thank you. Peace
Motorcycles are the best antidepressants in the world! There's nothing like feeling a nice breeze on your face and hearing the exhaust note to clear your head! Thanks for the video, find your passion!
Thanks for the video. I am 63 now and a retired bike cop. I shuddered to think what life would be like outside the police but retired 9 years now and coping fine. I already took your advice to just go and buy the bike - a few times. I have 6 bikes in the garage now.

We all get depressed at time. My advice is to get off your ass and go for a walk, ride to a local restaurant (even fast food) and have a meal and find a good video or movie to watch. I use to be a physical fitness nut (bicycling, sailing, hiking and weight lifting), but after multiple heart problems, I now ride my motorcycle wherever and whenever I can. The day’s ride is extremely beneficial and cost very little money.
11 days after my first comment here - bought the flipping motorbike - 2020 T100 Black basically brand new, not even broken in yet, stickers still on everything. First bike in my life at 47.. never too late - riding at sunrise this am was an absolute dream. Couldn’t be happier - thanks for the advice!! Get well soon!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thanks so much - just these few days riding has been an absolute paradise introvert’s escape - just as you describe in this video. I feel happier and there’s more head space for others when I get back. I wish I’d started this silliness in my 20s 😀😎.
Thanks Mr Darcy. Wise words indeed . I struggled with many issues in my life , too many to go into here. The one thing that gave me a release was a motorcycle. I've travelled literally hundreds of thousands of combined miles on various bikes, just me and the open road, running free. My life is back on track and the "black dog "is kept in check along with all the negatives that life throws at you from time to time . Yes, just buy the bike .
Man, you should write it down or make some vlogs about that! I think lots of people would really appreciate it as they're probably going through the same things as you did/do!
Trying to get my life into perspective after loosing my beautiful wife to cancer, listening to your thoughts has helped me. Although I am still looking for my path. Thanks brother.
I lost my wife to a brain tumor back in 2012 and at 55 the gym is still my drug of choice, it’s sustained me since then, it makes life somewhat bearable. There is a high cost to loving someone but if it weren’t so I guess it would be worthless as I am sure you know. My last trip to the local Triumph dealer, the girl who works there said “just buy the damn thing.” Hopefully one day I can settle on what I want and turn loose of some of my money.
A perfect reflection on the potential traps and pitfalls that keep a person locked into an unhappy or unproductive state of mind. Thank you for sharing your path. As always, the production values of your videos is outstanding. I can only imagine the time and effort that went into it. I feel grateful to have seen this segment.
I have been going back and forth about buying a motorcycle for the last 6 months. I have looked at many brands and different types of bikes. When you said in this video, "just buy the flippin motorcycle, life is too short". you really spoke to me. I picked up my 2023 Triumph T120 in aegean blue/fusion white Saturday. Thank you for giving me the right perspective. I could not be happier with my decision.
One day we all will be in the cemetary so we need to live each day with purpose and joy and remain mindful: be in the moment and be at peace. Great video sir. Regards from Canada. 🇨🇦
I had years(!) of struggling with acute depression, when I realized I had somehow let my love of motorcycling slip out of my life. So ten-ish years ago, I got back on a bike (then other bikes), started reading a lot more, doing a morning written affirmation associated with the writings of the "Stoics," walking or slow-running (Japanese technique) 3.1 miles (5k) before the sun is up (even if I'm away from home touring on the bike; bikers need to force themselves to move everyday on their own power), and began removing toxic people from my most inner circle. Oh, I'm now 61, never had facial hair (love shaving), but recently added a closely trimmed goatee because of watching my R18 lifestyle doppelganger on this channel who with his son produces stellar content and who's name I don't know. 👌🤙💪 Cheers, Mate 🥃 Greg
This video is so useful for so many people. I am in a great place in my life and heading towards even better. But here is my list: Things I like about my life now: 1) the direction I am heading in, 2) my wife (the person I am heading in this direction with), 3) my financial situation -- taking into account that I am student Things I want to change: 1) get my motorcycle license, 2) buy a Harley, 3) play a couple shows with my band
HI there tanks for sharing your thoughts i started riding two years ago through mental ilness i feel in peace when i ride here in Sweden we have dark and cold vinters looking forward to spring riding time
G'day not so ol' man. I'm an Aussie Veteran, 65 this year, and I have both physical and mental health issues. My physical disability (spinal injury), is directly linked to my mental health in that my motorcycle, (and my rifle shooting), is my therapy. Severe nerve damage in both legs means that my ability to go for a ride whenever I wanted to has been somewhat curtailed to say the least. I have been riding for the last 49 years, soon to be 50. Pain and discomfort become a secondary concern as soon as I sit on my fjr1300 and start her up. My absolute love of riding motorcycles is what gives me the strength and determination to overcome any cr*p that my body and mind throws at me. The pain of an hour or so of riding is so worth the elation that I feel when I finally get off the bike at home. My mind is clear of all the jumbled confusion and unexplained anger that builds up when I am not at my most approachable self, and I really believe that without my bikes, (and my understanding wife), I would have just given up and drowned in selfpity. As you have so well demonstrated in this video brother, life is worth living. Many thanks for putting this video out there highlighting the fact that we all need to have something in our lives that makes it all worthwhile. Cheers brother, and the countryside looks bloody amazing.
Dear sir! To add to the many comments of the same: Great video, great message, - thank you! By the way, I love your stone home and land, and how you live there!
A truly outstanding Video of epic proportions. I’ve suffered bouts of depression most of my life. I refuse to take drugs for it. The motorcycle is my drug. And my nice house and SUV. And I’m sure you’ll have 100 000 subs soon. You deserve it. Cheers from NZ.
I returned to motorcycling a year ago with a Royal Enfield 500 ,I have been meeting new people new friends even and taken part in charity rides life is good .
Boom! An unexpected but very welcome addition to the channel. You put a lot of time and thought into every shot and edit. And the message is simple and clear. Bravo!
Good to see the inside of the gym. My pressure release is my bike, and Jiu Jitsu - being an introvert - nothing helps me better than strangling someone at the end of a hard day in the office....
Riding my Guzzi V11, walks with my dog and music are my therapy. I love working out but as I don’t own my own private gym I run and cycle because I can’t stand the people in the gym! Thanks for a great vid
I thought exactly the same, if I had a gym like this I'd go every day, I just go once a week cos the worst part of going if bearing with the people. In general I envy this man.
Well done for the very thoughtful video it must have helped many people. Not only can you present a good bike video but you can also do the same for mental health. Keep up the good work
Like many, riding for me is therapeutic. I do have my music on most of the time but occasionally it’s just the sounds of the road and my own thoughts. I also live outside the city on some property and find the twists, turns and curves of the backroads is part of the “dance” of the mental release. I also love my R18C for many of the same reasons you’ve shared before. I’m seriously considering shipping my bike to the UK or Ireland for a month of pristine riding. We’ve visited before and the country side is stunning. (Or you have an open invite to Texas) Be safe.
Awesome that you also find riding is therapeutic 👍🏼 Just in case you do not know we do have a holiday let here in Wales 🏴 theoldebarn.jimdosite.com
Awesome video brother shared this on my Facebook as I’m a biker 42 years from my first 50cc Suzuki to to harley and ducati where I’ve been last 20 years love your motorbike and you will love life I’ve been a mental health nurse last 30. Years and really thrived helping others best. Advice I can give for your mental health is GET A MOTORBIKE. it’s really that simple don’t get wet rather feel the rain feel the sun on your face connect with the universe and everything around you feel the wind and most of all feel what it is to be alive Love all your vids watch them all 🙏🙏🙏❤️
Very thoughtful vid. I started riding 2 years ago at 50. Love it and has become my stress fix. Still have other gremlins still to fix. As you say, get on and fix them. Life is too short
Matt’s dad here. Setting up my new used Triumph triple. Modding it hoping to run some quarters just because I’ve always wanted to and still can. It beats sitting around. And golf carts are too slow lol. Good stuff.
My own personal saying is "find a job you love and you will never have to work another day in your life ". I think it was confusious (i think that's how you spell it ) the wise chinese man who said that . If people try to p#ss you off ,look them in the eye and smile ...it really winds them up . Dont ever think of suicide, you will only hurt the people you love . And last of all ...if your really feeling down ....just remember there is ALWAYS someone you can talk too. Take care on the road everyone. Peace out ✌
Good for you sir and thank you for that 💪 Really inspirational and helpful video. You are a great guy and this video will help many people, including myself! All the best. P.S Stunning bike 😉
You are so right, you have to be happy with your self, before you can be happy with life . I to go the gym to work out ,it helps me focus and gives me confidence. I love the look of classic motor bike's, but haven't pass my test yet..
A video with a big message . For me it's cooking ,riding my Indian and interacting with Horses as much as I am able . I worked with racehorses for 17 years then went to Culinary school and worked as a Chef for over 35 years . My two regrets not being able to get into better shape due to sports injuries and two retiring . I have a ton of things to do but it's not the same as working . And not being a grandfather but that's not really up to me . I live in a nice little house in a good area . I have a great family and a good woman to share it with . Not too bad
When I got to the end of this video. The old man was like ‘if it’s a motorbike you’re thinking of buying just buy the flipping motorbike!’ I pissed myself laughing because that’s all the encouragement I need to buy this cherry red Harley Davison lower rider S that I’ve been eyeing off for the last three weeks. Thanks old man! I’m very introverted and I just sold my old bike without that therapeutic sense of release I get on the bike my weekends are often just sitting indoors reading and exercising. This was an excellent video! I hope everyone who is having mental health issues are doing okay. Much love from Australia
Thank you. Note to self: mandatory seat time on the bike, EVERY DAY! No - it's not too much trouble to put the boots, helmet and gloves on......Just do it!

Am 57... after watching this, I am moving... and am getting a bike...
Thank you brother. God bless.
Awesome buddy 💪🏼
I too am moving and getting a bike. Used to work out like he did too. I plan to do that again now. Life is what you make it and this wonderful video helped to encourage my belief in that!
A Dr. friend of mine once told me to "just remember, you are not the only one who feels like this"
You sir are a legend. Thank you.
Thanks buddy. Great to hear that. All the best 💪🏼
I couldn't agree more. Thank you Ol' Man.
Three things
Don’t like -
1)Still haven’t bought my W800
2)Still haven’t settled my debts
3)Still haven’t found the courage to be in a relationship.
Do like
1) Realised I am a good teacher and that my students adore me, makes me proud every time they teach others what I ve taught them.
Thanks for that bro. Yes interesting about the caste system
@@MrDarcy-OlMan love this series; talk about other things in life apart from machines..
This channel keeps on getting better! Thanks for raising attention to this topic, especially in these weird and scary times 👌🏻
As someone who struggles at times I cannot understate the importance of having something in your life that gets you out doing stuff. Riding bikes is a big one for me. With and without engines.
YOU ARE THE ENGINE! ;)
💯👍🏼
Well that was a surprise from the old man and very good it was too, with many a truer word said👍
Thanks for this, the more this type of thing is talked about, the more it will become common place and not "off limits" or a stigma.
Great video, great advice. At 60 years old I just bought a BMW R18 and I feel better because I did, and because of your advice.
Glad to hear it!
Well done bro. Sometimes you’ve just gotta do it! 👍🏼👍🏼
Great comment, into am looking into purchasing a R.E. Interceptor 650.
Thank you. Peace

From one introvert motorcycle nut to another; great videos & bike reviews, and you have a beautiful farm 👍
Thanks for the video. I am 63 now and a retired bike cop. I shuddered to think what life would be like outside the police but retired 9 years now and coping fine. I already took your advice to just go and buy the bike - a few times. I have 6 bikes in the garage now.
Wow 6! I need to start collecting before there all electric!
Only for curiosity. What models do you own? I like modern clasics. Have Royal Enfield 350 and 650, triumph Bobber and T120. And a Ducati scrambler 😅

Watch it for the second time , even better the second time round, thanks once again
Well done ol man for being so vulnerable and opening up.
I think it is strong to voice your feelings
Don’t even have any mental health problems (At least that I am aware of) but keep finding myself drawn back to this vid. 🤷♂️
We’ll done bro 👍🏼👍🏼

Sorry to hear that bro. Life can be brutal but I’m sure you’ll get through it 💪🏼
I'm really sorry about that, I couldn't even imagine the grief you must feel.
We feel for you brother 🙏
Great message, wonderfully delivered by a genuinely lovely man!
Never expected a motivation video from the man himself. Thank you Mr Darcy, sending appreciation from California!
I need to get back to the weights and buy that bike 👍🏼.. my faith in Christ is my foundation , my Rock and my Redeemer.
Awesome. Well done

👌🤙💪 Cheers, Mate 🥃

This should be in the school syllabus! You made a brilliant life for yourself and no one told you how to do it. Kudos.
This video is so useful for so many people. I am in a great place in my life and heading towards even better. But here is my list:
Things I like about my life now: 1) the direction I am heading in, 2) my wife (the person I am heading in this direction with), 3) my financial situation -- taking into account that I am student
Things I want to change: 1) get my motorcycle license, 2) buy a Harley, 3) play a couple shows with my band
Thanks buddy. Good to hear that you have the shooting and riding. We need these things 💪🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you, I'm having a pretty rough time recently and hearing stuff like this really does help.
Awesome that you also find riding is therapeutic 👍🏼

I think it was confusious (i think that's how you spell it ) the wise chinese man who said that .
If people try to p#ss you off ,look them in the eye and smile ...it really winds them up .
Dont ever think of suicide, you will only hurt the people you love .
And last of all ...if your really feeling down ....just remember there is ALWAYS someone you can talk too.
Take care on the road everyone.

The old man was like ‘if it’s a motorbike you’re thinking of buying just buy the flipping motorbike!’
