You’re on the money with the ping pong line, someone explained that it’s kind of a saying involving the back and forth with a couple. Hyuna and Edawn are positive about going back and forth/interacting (their ping pong), while Soyeon is saying she doesn’t want to go back and forth with her ex.
my bag was made by soyeon as an all rap song according to her and shuhua actually was shook with her lines but still been able to pull it off

It rare when Yuqi gets to rap, but people forget that she started off as a rapper/ hip-hop dancer. Given she's in a group with Soyeon, yeah... kinda can't compare, but I love that she got a chance to flex those muscles with My Bag.

Shuhua sounds incredible this comeback. Her confidence has sky rocketed and it shows both physically and vocally.
Unfortunately a lot of people on stan Twitter took the ping pong line in the wrong way and thought she was “shading”/attacking Hyuna, including some other lyrics that were out of context that people stretched to fit Hyuna and ran with it. Now people are hating on her. It’s ridiculous.
And thats the reason you should avoid Twitter in general.

Playing ping pong also is a way of saying going back and forth since.. you know, ping pong. The ball goes back and forth. So when soyeon made this lyric, she probably meant that she doesn't want to have a back and forth (going back and forth with words. An argument or a conversation.) And she'd rather film a tik tok instead of going through that.
Which matches well with all the lyrics since the point of the song is that they want to be themselves and they don't give a damn about what anyone else says about them.

I love Miyeon' singing/melodic rap in "My Bag"....
they way i interpreted, "i don't want to play this ping pong, i rather film a tiktok", as not wanting the back and forth of bickering or dealing with a partner's bullshit/playing games in a relationship, and knowing how soyeon and idle are not that great at tiktok, that it's like, "i rather do something i already don't like doing or feel is just frivolous to do than deal with your bs" sort of thing. It was the latest ep of Miyeon's Gossip Idle where Soyeon mentions trying to get the members to record their lines overseas but that was too difficult, and they rerecorded when they all came back to korea, so timeline wise that doesn't really line up with HD's engagement announcement cuz that was just Febuary, and sounds like Soy had already tried to record Tomboy in the summer.
ps. i just wished miyeon did her fast part of her rap live, but i guess she wasn't feeling confident and so just sang her other parts live, but i hope she'll still try for a perfomance someday
On the album they have the uncensored version of this song at the end. All of us people of culture can enjoy the song like it was written. And Yuqi is the new Soojin, she just oozes raw sexuality in this song.
I don't know why but I feel like this is a tribune to Soojin and a message to the people that made her leave that she might not be in here but she is always family.

I thought the "ping pong" line was more along the lines of the back and forth pushing of expectations. It seems like the song as a whole was talking about not being held by what other people want and she doesn't like the back and forth fighting she has to do for her and the group's image. She'd rather film a tik tok and have fun instead of having this discourse. Your ping pong theory is very interesting and I haven't seen any reactors (who I've watched so far) make this comment either.

I get the ping pong reference with Hyuna and Dawn but I don't think there is any connection with their engagement considering timing. Soyeon probably wrote this some time ago. I took it as a simple reference to the up and downs and compromises you to have to make in a relationship. Also maybe the back and forth with haters.

Yeah, I'm still assessing on whether I NEVER DIE is as good as I BURN, but I think it's VERY close. No skippable b-tracks, once again. I'm loving this comeback, Yuqi and Minnie's songs are great, and Soyeon's raps are freaking fire on all the tracks. Never Stop Me is a sleeper hit among the B-tracks I think, though My Bag and Polaroid are up there too. I'm still going back and forth on TOMBOY and My Bag on which is the best on the album. Leave it to I-DLE to have so many bangers that I'm having this problem, lol. I can't choose!

So here my digression:
It makes sense having a song titled Ping Pong from Hyuna and Dawn who recently got engaged with each other, when one is currently in a romantic relationship (especially a hetero one because the Ping pong thing seems to emphase the back and forth due to the difference between genres) it makes sense
But this Ping Pong is Not necessary as a person itself, a relationship does not define who one is, the man-woman interaction is not needed to define oneself, and this is what I think Soyeon means by that, she does not need a man-woman interaction for being herself and doing what she want, and in a extend she does not need "male" producers/directors to define her music and her group, they are what they are and it doesn't matter being men or women, this Ping Pong (male directors vs female idols /or doing feminely vs doing manly) has no right to define us

About the ping pong/tik tok line, first, I think it’s genius because it can be interpreted in so many ways. When I first heard it, it sounded to me like a line referring to breaking conservative norms. Taking it in the context of the current environment regarding feminism in Korea, ‘ping pong’ refers to the old generation of women conformed to those gender norms (reason why she is in the Kitchen), then right after she refers to ‘tik tok’ which could reflect the new generation of women who no longer conform to gender norms and have other interest and goals than getting married and having kids.
I truly commend IDLE for coming back with a song like this, this could be very controversial in the country right now, mostly because the imagery has a lot a ‘man’ getting killed and hated on, which is the narrative regarding feminism in Korea right now. Men have this distorted idea that feminism equals man hating, and have an agenda against it. It’s all so wrong! The girls didn’t give a fuck and still gave us this banger!!

Sadly the ping pong theory has developed into a scandal between soyeon and hyuna just because the lyrics had ping pong in it. Honestly to me ping pong was like saying “i don’t wanna have this back and forth with a man who things I should act like a perfect doll for him.” But that’s just my opinion, idle can never catch a damn break, even on their first comeback after over a year.
