    This is great. I just moved from OSX to WIndows and built a powerful PC with a Motherboard with Thunderbolt 4 so I could use my APollo Twin X. I am having serious problems with OBS though and I've just tried making a video that was over 3hrs long and the audio stopped recording after 20 minutes and I didn't have a clue it had stopped (no error messages or anything). So I'm sort of at a loose end with setting up OBS on Windows and an Apollo. I found some Asio input drivers someone has coded that allows me to route any of my Apollo outputs into OBS but I have no idea if they are causing some kind of recording time out.
    A video on setting up an Apollo Twin X, with Windows 11 Pro, and OBS would be very welcome. I use Cubase but no need to do it in Cubase as changing the master ouput to any ouput is very simple. Many thanks and thanks for this great video! Very concise. Making me seriously miss being on OSX now 😂

    I hope I didn't sound like a negative nancy - I think your tutorial is great and I love it! I was just caught off guard that there were so many weird intricacies to get it to function properly on Windows. Otherwise the build qualities and plugins are the main reason why I purchased it. I also have the RME fireface so I came from that to this and it really left a bad taste in my mouth when it didn;t function properly out the box with windows

      Before I purchased my first high end MacBook for music, I was very fed up with windows because nothing works easily. This has been a non issue with my MacBook, I rarely have issues that I need to download extra drivers for or look into some back end folder.

      @@Mendelian Thanks for the suggestion :) However, I don't need or use OBS.
      There IS a single free utility middleware (ASIO Link Pro) that can apparently be used as a solution for the time being (the developer passed away though) but I am looking for something to come from UAD officially that defines the official way to do it. Really, the WDM driver should work directly with windows apps without distortion, assuming the bit depth and sampling rates are set the same in windows as in console, etc.

  • @QuiethouseRecording
    @QuiethouseRecording ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey y'all especially @Universal Audio - While this setup is baller for streaming, if you shoot your room, you might get double output on the frequency sweep and it will null out in a lot of places and give you a heart attack. Just be sure if you shoot your room that you change the setup config to no input on 1 and 2. I found this out the hard way yesterday but its all good now!

    • @QuiethouseRecording
      @QuiethouseRecording ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Heres something I wrote about the situation - Yesterday I was doing frequency sweeps because I just acquired a new pair of headphones and I was curious about how they sounded. I tested three pairs of headphones just to hear the difference and for the most part, I was pleased with my semi unscientific test. I was thinking it’s been a while since I’ve shot my room. usually do it every 3 to 6 months, just real quick usually with Sonarworks/SoundID. Oh, but this time because I wanted a slower sweep I opened up Ableton Live and used the tone generation function And use the tone generation function. to do a slow upward sweep from 20hz.
      From about 30hz to 100hz everything sounded fine but as soon as I hit 130 hz - COMPLETE SILENCE. A confused look across my face at what I was hearing as I wildly moved my head around to see why the null I was hearing was so…PERFECT. I continued the upward sweep past 200, 400, 600, 1k, 3k, 6k, etc. Every few jumps in frequency I would hear a drop out though not as significant as in the low end. Now if you are familiar with acoustic issues in mix rooms, you’ll know that low end is one of the hardest things to get right. In fact many rooms I’ve personally been in that are considered the yardstick for professionals have issues that are solved with acoustic treatment or DSP. A perfect room requires many trade offs but here I am thinking what the hell is going on with my low end? I’ve never had any issues with low end except for a slight dip at 100hz that has been diagnosed, treated, and cured for the last 8 years. My room was professionally designed and built - it should not have these issues. I mean I was thinking all this catastrophic stuff about the work I’ve done over the last few months, I never heard ANYTHING wrong even in the reference material I use to keep my ears fresh. So after about 2 minutes of troubleshooting, I found the issue: It was my new audio routing I had just configured a few days ago to facilitate a different way of making videos to post on social media.
      This required me to route the input channels 1 and 2 to my MONITOR L and R and create two virtual stereo channels for DAW Audio and System Audio. Since my output was coming out of both in Live and there was a slight latency between the two channels - it created a lot of problems in the sweep. Muting Daw Audio solved the issue but I’ve made a setup now that is strictly for shooting the room so I know no matter what I am using to do sweeps that I am getting one pure tone. I hope this saves someone a lot of hassle.

    I'm trying to figure out how to stream Ableton sessions where I create tracks from scratch and live loop. I'm guessing there's no way to use this routing to share DAW audio whilst using it to record audio in the DAW itself? For example, when I route Console this way and try to record anything in Ableton, the record enabled channels are showing the system output, so I can't record anything normally.
    I suppose a workaround would be to use Loopback - however, I have the old version of Loopback (v1.2.1), and have experienced varying amounts of latency in OBS, meaning audio goes in and out of sync. Is this issue easier to deal with in the newer version?

    Hi! First... I greatly appreciate the depth that UAD goes into supporting their users. Kudos to you and all the teams that go into that. Here's my issue... I'm having a really hard time figuring out Apollo console and how to live stream 8+ tracks (I have an x16 with 1073px preamps) into OBS. Maybe OBS isn't the right answer here. It's been inconsistent at best with tests, and fairly not considering my local IPS service. Maybe this deserves more depth/attention in a future office hours? I think I understand how to send Luna to Virtual Tracks for an output, but it falls apart once it goes out of OBS. Maybe it's an OBS issue... maybe it's and ISP issue... but I'd like to know your take on it. This particular video has a LOT of viewers... maybe we're all struggling with the same issue? Thanks in advance for any response... again, I love this channel and have learned so much from it.

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, OBS isn't a multitrack app. You could use Loopback to break them into 2 channel chunks. But let's start with what you're trying to do?

    • @the_eyebrows_rock
      @the_eyebrows_rock ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UniversalAudio Hi thanks for the quick reply. Apologies in advance for the long response here :). To start, I have an awesome Apollo x16 and use Luna as my DAW. I don't intent to send multitracks to OBS... just one live, stereo virtual audio feed from Luna. What I intend to do is have a virtual output from Console/Luna (while recording with some processing within Console and/or Luna) into OBS, and then from OBS to Facebook Live. So I would use Console/Luna to feed one stereo virtual audio signal OBS.
      I thought I setup the virtual channel correctly... with the DAW (Luna) to virtual 1&2, and computer audio to virtual 3&4. I routed (via sends) the tracks to virtual 1&2 in Luna, and muted the main output in Luna. I also muted the computer audio output in console. So, I thought OBS was getting a single, live stereo feed from the Luna DAW.
      I had ARM mode on (which only needed to be compensated with 150 mili seconds of delay with the video feed in OBS), but in turning it off and on while trouble shooting... I think I got a bit confused with the routing changes from turning ARM mode off. Also tried trouble shooting by turning console tracking mode on and off. I think in my trouble shooting, I just made things worse. Also, I had to recreate the Monitor L and R sends on channels 1 & 2 whenever I restarted my computer.
      The results were inconsistent, and I cant' really explain them. I think I solved the "strange, ongoing echo loop" by feeding a virtual channel to OBS. It seemed to all work great in one OBS to FB live test. Then in another test, the audio was intermittent, and then for some reason, OBS didn't see the audio feed. Again, I do blame my blind attempt at trouble shooting settings, routing, etc. I probably mucked things up. I did try starting from scratch several times, but I was not getting good results. So after watching many, many videos and failed attempts, I thought I'd reach out here.
      I think I'm not totally understanding the virtual and main routing with software downstream such as OBS and it's feeds further downstream (in my case, Facebook Live). I had inconsistent tests with OBS and FB... I'm wondering if there are some good examples of use cases of how to best connect with software and services when using console/Luna as a live mixer and recorder.
      Thanks again for reading this. I really enjoy using LUNA for tracking and mixing - it's such an incredible product. As someone who's spent a lot of time in studios, it brings me back to my happy place and makes me feel great about making music.

      @@the_eyebrows_rock No need for VCs. Just use Loopback to send your entire Mon L/R out to OBS.

      @@UniversalAudio Thanks for the recommendation to use Loopback. I've tried Loopback, and also tested an output from the PCI card in OBS. I can see the meter in OBS when ARM isn't on. When ARM is on, the meter in OBS doesn't move. Unfortunately, I can't hear audio from a FB Live test in either scenario. I'm going to dig a bunch more this week with tests and see if I can get a livestream test to work. I'm hoping it's just something really simple that I'm not understanding. :)

      If you create a Loopback that contains only the Mon L/R outs of the driver, it'll work. See here: th-cam.com/video/O0vLm7q8iFE/w-d-xo.html

    can you record vocals live as well?

    This doesn't work in Windows due to the Windows driver not working properly.... if you try to do this you will get a crackling sound. Tech support is aware of the issue it's just not talked about - you have to find out the hard way. still no fix either. this tutorial is great if you are on a mac though.

      All I use is ASIO Link Pro and everything works great on my Windows PC. If I don’t use that tool then I get the crackling/distortion you speak of. But once routed properly, the ASIO Link tool makes the windows drivers and UA drivers work properly.

      @@AdrianBellue I use it too but I meant natively I shouldn't have to use a third party app with a $1,200 device and a semi faulty driver

    Thanks for the tutorial. How did you isolate your microphone?

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mic is mixed with all other sources in Console before being sent to OBS.

      @@UniversalAudio Thank you. I figured as much. I seems the only way to have your mic on a separate channel in OBS is to use a usb mic that is not plugged into the Apollo which makes sense because OBS only recognizes those two inputs. Thanks again for the tutorial and the response.

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or use Loopback to isolate the mic and create a separate virtual device.

      Depends on the container, I believe MOV supports up to 8 stereo tracks.

      Their drivers are terrible and they refuse to improve on the non-ASIO things. They're going to lose market share even further if they don't wake up and realize that the use cases for these devices are different than they used to be.
