I’m so proud of you, Meng! I don’t have a house of my own. I live with my mom and my sister. I don’t know if I ever want to live by myself since I’m a woman so it can be scary for us (or really anyone) and it can get lonely. I had day dreams of me finding a wife and she moves in with my family. But don’t know if that’ll ever happen since I’m a huge home-body. But congrats! Personally, I would love to see a house tour.

You should also add, most pieces from the outlet stores are made for the outlet (cheaper quality than the ones in boutique) so you should ask the associates whether the item is an outlet item or from the boutique.

I’m sorry to hear how you are feeling at the moment about living in Japan after living there for already several years. I do know exactly what you are saying as I’m living in Canada for 28 years already and I do still have that sense of being alone when I go out to a coffee shop or even just walking down on the street. When I especially see many Canadian born guys, they seem to be always gathering for fun, I recognize they are always pretty much the same group of people, having fun drinking, talking and laughing….etc. I know I shouldn’t be doing this but checking on the social medias, I am subconsciously reflecting on my own life, seeing all of those familiar faces having a good time with smiles with their partners and friends pics. I got, however, a very thick skin now that I’m 54, and those things don’t really bother me much anymore.(those things used to stub my chest!) I still think though and just makes me wonder if I will be always like this pretty much “alone”, with so many days and so many years ahead of me, there are sometimes not even speaking to a single person for days (I also work from home AND I’m a caregiver for my 91 yo dad at home..) other than having a simple & short conversation in Japanese with my dad at home.
Those couple of years of pandemic definitely made me put back inside a cocoon, not being able to associate with people and there is still definitely the after effect from that. I do have a few friends here but I don’t have many friends who can hang out with and talk freely about anything. So I totally understand where you’re coming from, Meng. Especially when it comes to Japanese people, it is not so easy to grasp what they are thinking. I’m Japanese born Japanese (now Canadian) but still hard to figure that out! I’m now slowly trying to connect with some gay Japanese guys here but it takes so much time to develop some level of friendship and trust…etc. We can’t even see each other all that often either because everyone has their own lives, too…. Nonetheless this is what I have learned over the past so many years being and coping being alone all the time. You can never carry that expectations from surroundings but you can always create something that will bring you joy. All the resources are available out there and all around us but we can never expect from especially other people to bring what we want on to the table because they won’t unfortunately. We just have to recreate, reinvent and rethink what is that makes me content at the moment or going a little further to keep me going? Then sometimes heaven will bring you some surprises, it could be a person, or people, ideas or something totally unexpected. Anyway, I’m so glad, Meng that you are trying to break that saggy sad circle of “curse” by doing something big, buying and building your own house!! My goodness, in Tokyo?? But be careful(especially after you show that to the public) there will be ALWAYS someone who will want to be in your pants and pretend that he is going to be your best friend or boyfriend but don’t trust no one easily especially when you’re already feeling vulnerable. That’s a pitfall that you could easily fall into. It could be a painful experience “if” things don’t work out with that person or worse yet, if you really find out that he was taking an advantage of you. So extra caution, Meng. Remember that song by Mariah C. “Love takes time”? There will be someone eventually you two will deserve for each other but even if you didn’t find anyone, life time quality friends are worth more than being in a bad relationship with someone who cares only about themselves. Sometimes (or always) even a adorable pet will be totally devoted and be a lifetime partner!! 🐶🐱🐹🐰💕
So all the best, Meng, I’m so excited for you, for your new chapter, and can’t wait to see your spanking brand new home!! ✨🏡🧍🏻‍♂️💖Congrats!! 🤩🥳👏🏽🎉💮㊗️

Very good tips (especially the “only buy what you love” one, totally agree) but the last part was the most interesting one. I’ve always thought Japan is for tourism only in my book. You can love it, you adore it, but there’s no place like home, and in my case home is Italy. I’d been living in Germany for quite a period and well… visiting ドイツ was great, but working and living there all year round, well that’s all another story. Can’t wait for your next videos! 🥰

Also, I would presume you will have a mortgage. Not sure how things work in Japan. More Ted please. He was spot on that factory outlet can be more than retail. Also, retail still has sales that can be very good. Once you get your house up and running you can throw some parties to meet some Japanese friends. Sake is a must and it must be heated just right. Keep us posted. ps. when are you gonna take a trip to come over to America?

Congratulations on the new home purchase. That is a very big step in life and it is also very scary and exciting at the same time. I can't speak for everyone but I do look forward to a new house tour once you can move in. Was that water falling from the sky? I live in Los Angeles and water no longer falls from the sky here (for several years now). It may seem like an inconvenience when it does happen but treasure it. You have no idea how much you will miss it until it is gone. It is very much gone here in L.A. and just seeing it in your video made me miss it terribly.

Congratulations Meng on taking the big grown-up step of home ownership! You will be happier in your own space that you can do whatever you want with. As far as the relationship thing It seems like you are beating yourself up over it. The old saying is that the harder you look for something the harder and further it is from coming true. It seems like when you stop trying so hard that it actually happens, and I think the reason is because you just relax and take the expectations off of yourself and people see a more easy-going person that is more approachable and not trying so hard. Also think about the places you go and where you meet guys, that can also hinder finding good relationship material as well. If you are hunting in bathhouses and bars that might not be the best place to find someone else looking for a relationship. And you seem to be surrounded by some really good friends already so just ease up on yourself and let things come naturally and you will be surprised by the guys who might come into your life.

Congrats on the house. For me the point of shopping is the shopping! I generally have no particular goal, other than to shop. That is why I love the big outlet centers because they are so much fun to explore. Sometimes the best day of shopping is an all day excursion where the only thing I buy is lunch! 😎

It's really interesting what you say about not finding friends or romance because of the cultural differences... I'm going to Tokyo next year to live and study Japanese and it's good to have a realistic idea of what it's like to be there. BTW house tour sounds totally awesome!!

▪Ted gave some really great tips about shopping at outlet malls, which also apply here in Canada.
▪Congratulations on the house purchase, Meng! 👏🏽What are the rules for home ownership for foreigners (non-citizens) in Japan?
▪We definitely want a house tour when it is ready! 😀
▪I suggest that you introduce yourself and sign each comment / video note (with Meng or Andrew), especially for those new to the channel for whom this might be the first video of yours that they are watching.
