Ha! I actually finished the painting, and it turned out great. Painted the moon for my (at the time) unborn daughter, Luna. She's now 2 and loves to point it out and say "moon". Many thanks for the guidance!!
I am a beginner and I loved watching you paint, this is a great tutorial as it teaches the different ways to do things, Thank you for posting this , I look forward to watching more of your videos.
This helped me a bunch. My end result was quite a bit different because of my lack of skills and also using slightly different colors for everything but this was very good tutorial about the techniques and I hope I can apply what I learned to other things in the future.
Wow thank u! U changed my life. I have subscribed. I did this painting with u today and I couldn't believe what I did. And it was my second painting i have ever done. U teach well. I'm excited to learn and do more. Wish I could show u!
A huge thanks for this tutorial! I used a lot of your techniques on a moon for a mural I just finished and the results were stunning! Thank you for spending the time to make this video.
WOW! I am blown away by the beauty of this painting. Heading to your website now, I'm so excited to watch more tutorials and can't wait to try some of your techniques! Thanks!! :)
This is totally amazing and super well explained. I'm new to acrylic so I'm super happy to have found this tutorial. Thank you so much I'm gonna try this !!
I love how sturdy canvas is. Scrubbing like this would definitely tear up even thick watercolor paper. Enjoying your video. It's quite therapeutic to watch people paint. Can't wait to try something like this myself. :)
it's just what i wanted ..thankbyou very much i know how much it is hard to do videos like this but just know that you helped us a lot .. keep on the good job and be save
Thank you for making this video! The techniques you used helped me progress from a blob of colors to a drawing that actually looks like a moon! Thanks!
Great job Ric!! I've been thinking a lot to repurpose an old Earth Globe of mine and with this video you insired me to paint it as the Moon :) I guess I have to work the opposite way; from the lighter to darkest colours in order to let the light from the lamp to come through ... thank you for the inspiration and advice
Hi, very talented! Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I wanted to make a remark about how you pronounce the instrument that you use to make a circle, but there is so much more important things to focus on, now isn't there?! Keep up making beautiful things, and continue to share your gifts!
Isn't this the video you had the COOL MUSIC in? Where did it go? Painting looks better than the photograph. Love how you show us beginning to end, thanks!
Trying my hand at painting. It's a frustrating process. On my third attempt at getting a decent blend. I'll get it eventually- but the painting will be about as thick as a magazine, haha. Thanks for the step-by-step.
What are you spraying on painting???is it any fixitive or for shine???and plz use company names of your colours and brushes and all things which you use for paintings...thanks
nagualero wow lovely collection but unfortunately I'm in Asia and from a middle status country there no good things for painting but with our skills we can make things beautiful...I did masters in oil painting and blue moon is my favourite scene to paint ever
Since I'm new with art material and stuff I would like to know that hard brush you're using is it the same brush for oil painting? Btw I love your artwork simply amazing
Thanks +Aimee Ashfaq yes I use the same brush for scumbling with either acrylics or oils. Mind you, if you are going to paint this with oils you must wait for each scumbling layer you do to dry, before you apply a new one.
Hi @nagualero .... Thanks for this wonderful video, I bought this video lesson 2 yrs ago when it was still not uploaded here. Can you please teach to paint a waterfall ?
Hi Ric. I watched your previous lesson on the harvest moon. In the video you said that you would share the sketch of the moon. Did you have a PDF file for that?
Watercolor paper will work just as fine, I use acrylics on mixed media paper all the time. It's also suggested to use an absorbent canvas (like watercolor paper) if you're going to be mixing acrylic with water.
The issue here is not the amount or lack of water used with acrylics, but rather the amount of scumbling that is done in this lesson. I seriously doubt any paper will resist developing a hole in the first layers with all that rubbing of paint. Water or no water. The problem is friction between the brush and canvas, with water aggravating the situation. That's why I recommend a though canvas. But anyone can use what they think is best.
Which brush are you using to scrumble in the colors of the moon? I feel like if i rub my brushes into my canvas like that all my hairs start falling off and getting stuck in my painting. What bristles does it have? I really need to get one. I hate finding random hairs fall into my painting.
+Rita Limes I am using hog hair brushes as I mentioned in the video. The ones I use are from Rosemary & company. You can check all the brushes and paint I use here: nagualero.com/materials
Is the brush new? If so it could be that. I use brushes from a company called Rosemary & co. You can find all the materials I use here: nagualero.com/materials
This is honestly very amazing!! But I do suggest that the video time is shorter though. Like he can just time laps some parts maybe...? But over all it was stunning. Great job

That's one impressive moon painting, buddy. If the silhouette of Elliott and ET on a bicycle was to appear, it'd make Steven Spielberg proud.

Hi Ric. I watched your previous lesson on the harvest moon. In the video you said that you would share the sketch of the moon. Did you have a PDF file for that?
sorry no. but you can get images on google
What sort of palette are you using for your acrylic paints and how do you keep them from drying out in the wells?
nagualero.com/materials
nagualero thanks!
Hi, what brand of paint are you using in this demo ? atelier interactive ? or another ? thanks :)
+April Palmer winsor and Newton :-)
what canvas did you use ? does watercolor convas work ? it's all i got for now and i cannot wait any longer to not paint.
If you mean watercolor paper, I don't think it will. I used a normal cotton canvas for this. Hope that helps :-)
Great
how do you know what color to add to get the color you see on the reference or in your mind ?
You match the color you see or imagine with the one you are mixing
At 16:45 he officially made a squirrel on the moon. Lol anyways, nice painting tho dude!

You're welcome +Rita Limes
How did you keep the paint on your pallet from drying? When I use acrylic paints, the acrylics dry fast.

I got it. Thanks. By the way, my painting of the moon came out great!
What do you spray onto the painting?
+Theatricks van der Westhuizen just water
Can you also tell me types of brushes you used in this painting
+Aimee Ashfaq the link for that information is on the video description
I got a hog bristle brush. Why does it keep shedding every time I do the scrubbing technique? What brand do you suggest?
Is the brush new? If so it could be that. I use brushes from a company called Rosemary & co. You can find all the materials I use here: nagualero.com/materials
If you don't have a hog hair brush, could you use a small stencil brush?
you can use any brush you are willing to scrub with :_)
Water colour pencil for drawing - thank you
What is the spray your using ?Is it filled with water ?
yes
This is honestly very amazing!! But I do suggest that the video time is shorter though. Like he can just time laps some parts maybe...? But over all it was stunning. Great job
