  • The Victor Black Box Gopher Trap, available online and usually at your local hardware store Is the best way I have found to reliably deal with a gopher problem relatively quickly. I have tried all the other traps, including the cinch traps, and the easy set variety. This by far is impressive in it's results - which are very clean. I think it's likely because, if you bury it properly, making sure no light is getting through, they don't know it's there, smell the veggie, and spring the trap! Also, trapping saves countless cats and birds of prey from poison...

    I rub celantro and leave the herb on the trap and it’s instant fast with fragrant herbs to attract it..

    I bought one of these traps this morning and set it and just caught the bastard. I wish I bought this first.

      +Hector Guzman I think I caught a 3rd one this morning. I haven't had any false triggers with this trap, but i like the fact you can bait it at the end of it and when it tries to get the bait "snap" goes the gopher.

    The major flaw in this trap is the lack of efficiency. Meaning that it might only work 50% of the time, depending on which side of the tunnel the gopher was in. If the gopher was on the side of the tunnel with the closed end of the trap, you're not gonna catch it. Why didn't they just design it with TWO open ends, one on each side instead?

      In the video I said that you should put a veggie in the hole, but another viewer pointed out, that the hole might be for letting light in, and that the gopher tries to close the hole so no light gets in. I agree, which is why when I'm lucky enough to have a tunnel going both ways, I use two traps!

      I always use two traps cuz you have no idea from which direction it’s coming from..

    You do not have to bait this trap all that you need to do is split a leave to go around all opening except the end hole . The gopher will enter trap to cover up the end hole to shut out the light. These traps are the best on the market !!!!!

    I live in Wewoka Oklahoma and I've been useing these box traps for a few years now and can honestly say my 5 1/2 acres is gopher free. Hands down it's the best gopher remedy on the planet.

    Love this trap, is works. Some gofers are smart and fill the tunnel before the end so they do not push the wire to set off trap. For these smart ones, I take a carrot and cut a chunk off and slide on the wire release (may have to slighly bend the wire to get the carrot on) keeping it on the side of the wire, then I put very small pieces back in the tunnel and few closer to trap and then under box. This leads them to the carrot on the wire , some of the gofers had their cheeks pockets loaded with carrot pieces.

    I got one of these, and think I have followed the directions correctly. The first time, the gopher went around the trap. I reset it in the same place, and waited two days. I have moved it to another hole,and it has been two day now. i don't know what I am doing wrong. Any advice would be great.

      Here's what I do; bait it with a carrot or potato wedge, dig down and bury it level with the hole, sprinkle small rocks and dirt over the holes on the top of the trap so that no light gets in. I've had pretty much 100% success with this, but again, I'm in California, catching whatever dumb gopher we have here. Not sure how well it works with other types of moles or ground squirrels etc.

      Maybe, but they can be very cruel. I once had a gopher that screamed for hours until it died, and I couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. It didn't occur to me it could be the trap. These kill instantly or at least quickly. Thanks for watching!

    Great vid. All the others I watched on this device ran on for like 12 min. None mentioned resetting to the same hole. Thanks! I like setting it and emptying it with minimal chance of me getting hurt or bloody, with the box like a barrier btw me and Creepy Joe Gopher the Culprit.

    These traps work. I've uset gas, deterent sprays, etc. Unfortunately I live near the National forest. Actually 3 streets away. They go thru 4 sets of houses to me. Never been this bad. Would get one or two in the summer. So far, in two months, got 14. Yes Fourteen. The up hill neighbors aren't doing much to stop them so lucky me. If I was from the south, probably could make a good stew.
    Anyway, I have 3 traps. And generally always have one in the ground. Had two weeks between #13 and #14. I'm fortunate that my dogs find the hidden holes. Plant the trap, generally, next day. Got one. These traps WORK. Only way to stop gophers is this trap

      I'm glad this video gained traction on youtube. Some of the other traps are barbaric, and poison is worse. We had so much rain this last year in most places, the whole ecosystem is flourishing, gophers too, apparently. Thanks for the comment!

    Best trap I've used for the purpose. The challenge for me is digging down and finding the tunnels. The soil where I live is clay-like & rocky, so just digging the hole is half the battle. I use peanut butter around the hole, it's like gopher-crack.

    • @SurrealAdventure

      Zelpo777 that’s good to know. I’ll try peanut butter next time.

    I left one out and the little prick buried it in dirt. I hate this thing so much

    • @SurrealAdventure
      @SurrealAdventure  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I've had that happen a couple of times. Make sure you put it level with the hole, and cover up all the openings with soft dirt, to increase the chance. I had one I couldn't catch so far, it was really smart, every time I put the trap in, it would bury it. For those I would try gopher gas, but this works the vast majority of the time.

    Just bought one of these traps as well and caught the little critter yesterday. Great trap and I didn't even have to bait it. I saw where the gopher was digging and immediately dug out the hole, set the trap in place, covered it with some loose grass and came back one hour later to find a sprung trap with the little critter inside.

    • @SurrealAdventure
      @SurrealAdventure  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't realize this, but after some feedback, it seems the hole on the other side might be to let light in, so the gopher tries to bury it. I was shoving veggies in it...

  • @UNTAMD68
    @UNTAMD68 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I set mine with no bait and after a couple hours it had dirt coming out of the traps hole. Reset it, this time with peanut butter and he took the bait then filled the hole. When I looked in the box you could see his claw marks on the inner side walls, it's like he pushed the trigger to the side to get the bait. Reset again this time with poison on the peanut butter, covered the hole didn't touch the peanut butter...SMH Now I put a small piece of flat wood to make the trigger a solid surface to push instead of a metal ring, I hope to god this works... I'm losing it with this gopher. Any suggestions? I've also tried setting it at a 45° angle and level with the hole.

    • @SurrealAdventure
      @SurrealAdventure  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes they are smart, and know something is up. Make sure NO light gets in. Sprinkle dirt over the top and make sure the bottom is level with the gopher hole - so if the hole goes straight down into the ground, or at an angle, try digging with a shovel to get to a flatter part. Usually the holes level off after a few inches, or a foot or so. In the rare case I've been unable to trap a gopher with this, I've tried the gas (the firework looking thing) with mixed results. Keep trying, eventually you will get it.

    these are the most expensive traps 14.00 a piece. I set the trap and it caught the gopher but didnt kill it. it was stuck. alive in the trap....

    • @SurrealAdventure
      @SurrealAdventure  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does happen, but in my experience (and I've used almost all the available traps) this is still the best one to use. Poison is far worse, and can kill cats and birds, and many of the other traps are barbaric, impaling the gopher for a long, slow death. There is no easy way to kill something, Jason.

    • @jasonharrold6686
      @jasonharrold6686 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people here have suggested not putting in a veggie, and instead leaving it open for the light to get in, so when the gopher tries to cover the hole with dirt to block the light, it gets him. Maybe try that?
