Thank you very much for making these videos and for offering the most effective gopher trap I've tried. Between your instructions and the tips offered by Gunnar in Minnesota's videos, I have been able to get my gopher issues under control! Thank you very much!
Excellent video! Over the years I've used similar techniques. I've not tried the peanut butter -I use a piece of carrot or a green onion but I will start using the PB from now on. I also like the trap used in the video vs. the Maccabee trap. This one has a smaller cross section. A couple of possible additional items: When you replace the plug of turf make sure there's no light entering around the edges of the plug. They will push dirt into the area if there's any light at all coming in. I also stake down the traps with a steel wire attached securely to the trap. Started doing that when coyotes chewed through the fabric cord I used initially. If there's a single hole, dig it out and place the trap at least 18" into the tunnel. I then use rigid black plastic sheets to cover the opening and seal out the light. I don't like killing any of God's creatures but I draw the line at gophers. In the last year I've lost $500+ trees, vegetables and turf grass
just bought some more traps for my gopher and mole business, really like your traps. My Rodent Guys Pest Control customers really benefit. Thanks for a great trap.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in this matter. This little guys took over my yard and I am finally getting it under control. The peanut butter scent does the trick! Thanks again :)
I just received some of your pocket gophers traps. Set a few of them tonight and hoping for good results. Build quality far exceeds the Sweeny traps sold in Lowe's. Excellent quality!
Good info...myself and the hardware employees had some trouble figuring out the basic macabee trap (the trigger bar has to go under and be completely pulled up and centered which is the key). Found the burrow in lawn yesterday, set the trap, and just nailed the gopher today!
I've been trying for months to kill gophers, but watched this video (used different traps) but the tips are immensely helpful and I GOT MY FIRST ONE TODAY! Threw a big party, totally stoked!!!
OK I am so appreciative that you put out this video. I have been using bait or fumigants for years with mixed results. I am sold on the Idea of trapping over baiting especially initially or in accounts with pets.
Great video, nothing bad about sharing information that aids me in providing a safe and healthy yard, where my grandson pups run and play. without the health and safety issues to worry about. Thank you very much.
Stephen, thank you very much. After watching this video, I followed the exact steps to locate the tunnel, set up the traps, and applied peanut butter. A few hours later, I had a dead gopher.
@albanstv I learned this the hard way. Wasn't sure if it was a gopher or a mole because the dirt was so dry/sandy and located on a steep hill which didn't provide sufficient evidence which animal it was. I ended up buying the regular size mole trap and it was ineffective due to the gopher size. I have now bought the gophinator set since then and it is like night and day. Got my first catch the same day, thanks for this awesome device, it is well designed.
I have bought several of your traps and they are excellent!! I always remove the gophers, but someone told me I should bury the gopher in his hole and this will make the other gophers leave the area. What do you recommend?
tstfrd , Not an option unless you want to spend quite a bit of money on more traps, and still deal with further infestations. They will move, but still do their damages, and possibly return 6 months from then to the same area.
I've had issues with racoons digging them up making bigger holes for me to fill. They dig up the same hole for several days due to the residual smell. Now I just throw them in the tree-line for them to eat.
Good video I got a gopher problem I have a good trap one thing when you set up a trap is to tie it on with a small rope my cats had ran off with the gopher and the trap I found it it's expensive to loose a trap that way
Nice video thanks for the good information. What kind of traps do you use? I just bought two Victor Black Box traps, hopefully they work well. I like how small the traps you used look, seems like it would help. Thanks again.
Such a valuable video. I love your traps and have killed hundreds of gophers with them. Any suggestions when you are trapping in very sandy soil. I notice they fill back the holes more often and the traps don't get set off.
You have to make sure you get a main run preferably running two directions branching off the ejection hole where the dirt mound is. You place a trap on L and R side of entry hole you dig, cover and wait. Also helps to wear gloves so you don’t leave your scent.
I guess I'll have to get some of these traps. I've baited the tunnel with poison pellets, smoothed away the mound and put a stone over it but the next morning the mound was back and bigger than before. These little buggers are ruining my lawn. Thanks for the great video.
I've being trying for years to catch'em, I tried everything, and no results at all. Thanks a lot to bring this video, I will get rid of my annoying gophers that they driving me crazy.
I have video of what appears to be a gopher, although smaller than in your video, entering my shop area, and shunning several traps baited with peanut butter, high-quality freshly ground stuff. What other baits might be enticing, please?
What are those 4 holes in front of where you set the traps? I have those holes all around my yard in the same locations of where the mole activity is. The holes look like they have been a cave in in some places. But it is weird because the holes are PERFECTLY round. Is a racoon or a possum or a skunk trying to get in the tunnels?
I have been struggling to trap the little rodents. They kept filling traps with dirt like you said. I tried the peanut butter trick and it worked first try. Thank you for the tip.
What do you do when you don't have grass roots that holds the soil and you can't lift out a "plug" that can be set back in? We have sandy soil with no grass (in our garden) and the sandy soil collapses.
Update: the loose dirt did not seem to ruin the effectiveness of the trap. We just shoveled soil back in to make sure the tunnel was dark and today we got the gopher. Now we know what we're doing thanks to you
Good video. I have trapped 7 that were destroying two lawns. The Peanut Butter trick is awesome. Took me two times to do it right. And, I used two old type traps. Two good looking lawns now. I also bury the carcass in the hole. Don't know if it works, but it seems to make kinfolk pack their bags and move somewhere else. Also, you are right, probe and find their tunnels, don't get fixed on their opening.
First time doing this, there is about a hundred holes in my little back yard. The gopher holes are not that big so I was having some issues. But practice makes perfect. Thanks for the video.
We use the Trapline mole traps (Molinator) at our Wildlife Control business. These are high quality, effective products. We catch hundreds of moles every year and these are up to the task!
This is not meant to be offensive, I'm curious. Is it possible for other animals to ingest and be harmed by 2-4-D? I've never lived in an area that dealt with infestations. I saw a picture of a house cat that had it's arm removed and it said it was due to a mole trap. Are they really that powerful and damaging? With the way Stephen Albano did his work, it seems safe to say another animal is not likely to get injured...but still...I'm a cat person and that makes me sad.
Very informative! I have a ton of gopher mounds on my property. I had no problem with the little guys until they moved into my garden and up around the house. Could they be the reason all my ferns are dieing? I hate to kill them but I also have put a lot of hard work into my garden. Thanks for the information.... peanut butter!!
jmjohnson, from your description, it sounds like you have "voles", which are also known as "field mice". They leave very round, very clean, open holes with vegetation cropped back very short around the perimeter of the hole. See my website for more information on how to trap voles--they're easy to get if you use the right set-up.
trapperjoe, no, the gopher traps are bigger than the large mole traps, as gophers are a bigger animal than moles. The mole size traps(either standard or large size, as they're pretty close) will work well for juvenile gophers. You really need the gopher size trap for adult gophers. Thanks. -Steve
You don't need BAIT And I leave the holes open....I don't know if it's the light or air that brings them in....I also use 2 traps 1 in each direction of the same hole.....I placed the trap and caught some in 20 minutes......THESE TRAPS ARE GREAT...... Before these traps I use Flares.posion, diesel exhaust from my tractor .I tried to drown them...Shoot them when they pushed dirt up......About 6 different things to kill them and nothing worked as well as these TRAPS....😁😁😁😁😁
@bundaiz trinitrotoluene aka TNT, doesn't seem very efficient. In the Netherlands; farmers use calcium carbide. Put it in the tunnel, sprinkle some water over it, let the gas flow trough the tunnels, then fire it up.
The reason why it's high percentage catch is because the gopher walks straight into the the trap per the tunnel. I'm seriously considering not ever purchasing poison or the "gasser" bomb because the trap is very effective. Some other video with two sonic noise deterrents did not work brand new.
really i only said what i did so that if your pocket gopher problem was extremely bad, using 2-4D laced peanut butter could actually be a good alternative to serve your pesky gopher control problem needs. but using the idea thats in the video is also a good way to go too. and knowing gophers their just like squirrels, and squirrels love nuts including nut based products like peanut butter
Great video went out and got some traps right after watching yesterday, set them in the afternoon and this morning 3 of the 4 traps had gophers, my dirt plug didnt go back in as perfect as his so i put a chunk of 2x6 wood over the whole and covered it with dirt to make it keep light out. Sweet revenge after they killed my one year old apple tree
id just use peanut butter laced with 2-4-D to rid my 8 acre backyard of pocket gophers. and i could use agent orange as well to get the job done but 2-4-D is like agent orange except it has a lower dioxin content and its more deluted. And why id use chemicals or poison bait is because i find that more effective than blasting, shooting, or using small rodent traps
Gophers are rodens. Just like rats and mice. So for you animal lovers/tree huggers, you can have these rodens in your yard and see how quickly you become a roden killer.
I have gophers and moles in my yard from time to time. I had dirt mounds and run over him with the lawn mower. Big deal. The Grass grows over it again. And once in awhile I see the creatures and enjoy seeing them. Now you think they are useless. Rodents her vital part of the ecosystem. They help with new growth of plants. Since a Rodan is a hoarder of seeds and store them underground they often forget where they put them which allows new plants to grow. The only thing that is useless on this Earth is a person like yourself. It's people like you with small brains that do more damage to this earth than any creature could ever do.
Idk about I giys but in Minnesota they lay 3-4$ per set of the front feet and I’ve been trapping all spring so far and got well over 60 now with only 10 traps that I got so I’m making bank rn
Thank you for your positive comments--glad people are finding the video and the traps useful. ROFLpwnedvideos, no I don't eat them, at least not on a regular basis.

You my friend are a gopher trapping machine. Well done!
Holy cow it works!!! I got one my first try!!! I tried everything for about a year until I used your method thank you so much!!!
just bought some more traps for my gopher and mole business, really like your traps. My Rodent Guys Pest Control customers really benefit. Thanks for a great trap.
This is a great demo for anyone trying to get rid of gophers!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in this matter. This little guys took over my yard and I am finally getting it under control.
The peanut butter scent does the trick!
Thanks again :)
You are the gopher “TERMINATOR” my friend. I need to get me couple of those traps for sure. Thank you for the video

Very instructional video. Even better, the trapline products work as advertised, even for a rookie! So nice to be able excellent trap Made in the USA.
I just lost a 2 foot tall grass plant over night to a gopher. Just declared war.
Pacific Warrior did you win?
😂😂😂
Lunawolf44 indeed I did

Great video. Really helpful down to earth advice. What about moles? Do these traps work for them?
Do you do this technique sometimes with the mounds on moles with your mole traps
Definitely will try using peanut butter. Great vid thanks!
That was solid. Very good job and presentation. Thanks
is the larg mole trap biger then the gopher trap? and can you use the larg mole trap for gophers?
Nice video.
How do you price out work like this?
Thanks. Drew
I’ve tried everything. This will be my next step!
I have video of what appears to be a gopher, although smaller than in your video, entering my shop area, and shunning several traps baited with peanut butter, high-quality freshly ground stuff.

Will mole traps work on gophers? I am gonna buy all sizes as I think I have all 3 types, but I am not sure how I will approach setting them...
I have been struggling to trap the little rodents. They kept filling traps with dirt like you said. I tried the peanut butter trick and it worked first try. Thank you for the tip.
How can i get rid of that mas got big problem.thanks 4 shared the video
Wow my dad is paying me 5 bucks every dead gopher and if i had the 40 you caught i would have made $200 :0
omg same XD
Tell dad to get you a dirtbike and he'll never see another gopher again. th-cam.com/video/0TOmVUA8N_M/w-d-xo.html
VERY nice. Thank you for the very instructive video. I needed it! Thanks.
What type of hand trowel are you using?
Looks like a hori hori. It's a great tool. Multiple uses.

Can these be used to catch a large gopher or woodchuck?
How can you tell if it is gophers or moles? The size of the tunnel?
so after collecting that many do you eat them?
how many gophers do you trap a day
thank you soo much!! i will try this right away. Baddd gophersss!!!
i have a gopher problem i leave the traps and they dig them out its kinda wierd but im going to try the peanut butter hopefully i get good results
what type of shovel/knife is that?
Thank you for this video. I caught my first one this morning.
First time doing this, there is about a hundred holes in my little back yard. The gopher holes are not that big so I was having some issues. But practice makes perfect. Thanks for the video.
That, my good man is impressive!
Do you charge by the gopher? I would say $5 each is very reasonable.
Fantastic! I love the barrel of dead gophers!
wow. that is some impressive success
Thanks for the video. I have a tiny yard but it's infested with gophers. Not for long though. :-)
Well done!
Dude you are "Gopher Enemy Number 1"
Oh my gosh! We could have multiple gophers? They are tearing my yard up!
Sharp points up?
We use the Trapline mole traps (Molinator) at our Wildlife Control business. These are high quality, effective products. We catch hundreds of moles every year and these are up to the task!

That pile of gophers is frigging awesome. MAKE SOME SOUP!!!
Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies has a recipe for this. :-)
Anyone kno where i can find a trap like this?
Wow my respect for you. Thank you.
Great video thanks. I have a big battle.

Nice job
THANKS! I will take a look.
I wanna hire this dude, now!
If a gopher sees light from you not hiding the trap enough with dirt, the gopher will bury your trap.
Very impressive work! My property is gopher infested real bad. It killed lot of my vegetables and trees. Suckers...
You don't need BAIT And I leave the holes open....I don't know if it's the light or air that brings them in....I also use 2 traps 1 in each direction of the same hole.....I placed the trap and caught some in 20 minutes......THESE TRAPS ARE GREAT...... how do you dispose of your buckets of dead rodents?
Thanks for the great info. I'm already 2 for 2. I am tired of these rodents digging up my lawn.
Another trapper says to leave hole uncovered because if gopher senses its open he will come to close it to keep other varments out..seems cool..
can i use rat trap? thats all i have
You can just mark it that way you won't accidentally step on it. Oh and don't forget the peanut butter
Resolution is different!
Thanks for the know how!

Do you even trap, bro?
Caddyshack = [prepping to dynamite the gopher tunnel] "In the immortal words of Jean Paul Sartre, 'Au revoir, gopher.'"
Are they good eatin👍🏻
I think we're having an epidemic outbreak of gophers in the Murrieta area through Temecula.
id just use peanut butter laced with 2-4-D to rid my 8 acre backyard of pocket gophers. and i could use agent orange as well to get the job done but 2-4-D is like agent orange except it has a lower dioxin content and its more deluted. I bet you would double your catch if you played Kenny Loggins "I'm Alright" on a constant replay near the area.
i think they would make great snake food if you catch them alive. maybe eagle food as well.
Thank you for your positive comments--glad people are finding the video and the traps useful.
ROFLpwnedvideos, no I don't eat them, at least not on a regular basis.
Stephen Albano what brand traps do you use
Screwed up question but...do you eat em? I mean...it's free food. I would. Why not? haha.
