I've never been lucky enough to see James King live. He was scheduled to play in Chattanooga a few years ago--and I had a ticket--but a flat on his bus waylaid the band, and he had to skip the gig. I've followed him for years--w/Stanley and Longview. To me, he is the finest living bluegrass vocalist in the world, and this song crushes me EVERY TIME I hear it.
First time our guitar player had me listen to this song I about lost it thinkin about my dogs. We hired James to play out here a few months back and he did this song, love it. Great cross picking on that mandolin!
Found out my dad met JK after I had discovered who JK was....sad to see a blessed voice leave this world but happy he's continuing the song up with our Father
This song reminds me an awful lot of a short story called The Soul of Caliban. Same premise and everything. Gives me the same chills as when I first read that story.
Great Song. When we act rashly there is usually a huge price to pay..sometimes we are lucky and we can aploggize or something....Not so in this case...
RIP James King. My favorite sad song
Mine too. James sure is missed.
I love this song
R.I.P James king

I’ve tried to play and sing this song several times and I can never get through it without crying and my voice cracking. It always ends early 🤦♂️

Saddest song ever. I love it. Not many people my age know what this bluegrass is, I pity them.
A true friend...is a dog...they always forgive you and in many cases fight for you. even if it costs their life.

I heard James got sick. I hope he is well! is there anywhere I can see him play?
Yes, but you will have to stand in line and wait until you get to heaven, he is playing for the Lord right now............
that is soo sad....i really love listening to him.this song gives me the chills
He is indeed. Glad I got to see him. And even meet him.
Abby Stoker, from what I understand, he needs your prayers. However: --- www.willowoakpark.com/schedule.html
Great! Maybe James will pay me the $650 he owes me!
i beleive Tom T. Hall wrote this song
No sir. It does sound like something Hall would have written. But this was written by James King himself.
