    Ok this one is taking me quite an effort, I will have to watch it several times to understand it, for now I've stopped at the first sentence so I can read about Comma Splice (which Splice in itself is an uncommon word to me). Thank you very much for this kind of videos.

    Hi. To be honest the third sentence was the easiest one for me to solve it correctly and quickly. The other 3 were kind of more difficult...

      Thanks for letting me know. I could have made it easier by telling you what type of error was in the sentence. I will keep this in mind next time.

    Hi there Mrs. Jenna.
    I have a question for you.
    Is this sentence correct? :
    Many businesses closed for the pandemic.
    Or should it be : Many businesses closed because of the pandemic.

    • @LearnAcademicEnglish
      @LearnAcademicEnglish  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. I think that "for" means "during the time" like "We are closed for the weekend" or "This business will close for the summer."

    Hello professor Jenny, while reading the Cambridge English dictionary, I got stuck in two sentences.
    1) I have been rushing(about/around) all day trying to get everything done.
    It means I have been rushing (about/around) all day since I have been trying to get everything done.
    2) A crowd of people ran down the street waving banners.
    It means A crowd of people ran down while they were waving banners.
    If any of these sentences/Explanations are incorrect, Do correct.

      Great question! These are examples of reduced adverb clauses. We sometimes omit the conjunction.
      #1 could be either "since/because" or "while"
      #2 is definitely "while" as you wrote
      The reduced form actually sounds more natural and more native. The longer forms sound a little clunky.
      I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @dan93431
      @dan93431 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LearnAcademicEnglish thank you ma'am 💓 for giving me that opportunity.😊😊
      Ok. Are these reduced adverb clauses too?
      A) It is exhausting having so much work to do.
      B) It's quite tricky getting the puzzle pieces to fit together.
      If these are reduced adverb clauses too, what will be the full clauses?
      Let me try. A)It is exhausting when I have so much work to do
      B) It's quite tricky when I get the puzzle pieces to fit together.
      While the "ing" form is much more natural, I would like to learn or translate a sentence in various ways without changing the meaning.

    • @LearnAcademicEnglish
      @LearnAcademicEnglish  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your ideas for how the full clauses could be are possible. Another option is that the gerund is like the subject because we have an "it is" sentence. I'm not explaining it clearly, but see these examples:
      Having so much work to do is exhausting. (having ... = a gerund which is acting as the subject) --> It is exhausting having so much work to do.
      Getting the puzzle pieces to fit together is quite tricky --> It is quite tricky getting the puzzle...
      I never thought about that type of structure before, but that's how I see it.

    • @dan93431
      @dan93431 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LearnAcademicEnglish that was really helpful for me to understand the meaning.
      I would like to create another two examples the way you taught me.
      Learning a language to a high level is very difficult.
      So I can say "It's very difficult learning a language to a high level.
      Next "It was intersting hearing about his experiences as a police man
      I can say "Hearing about his experiences as a police man was interesting. Correct??

    • @LearnAcademicEnglish
      @LearnAcademicEnglish  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! They are grammatically correct. Definitely the one with the gerund at the beginning would be preferred in writing.
      For some reason, the first one ""It's very difficult learning a language to a high level." sounds strange. We would use "to learn" in this sentence. I am not sure why. I will think about it and let you know.
