So true. Have had Sheppard's my whole life and am retired now. I still have one and will till I can't take care of them anymore. We walk everyday and this has kept my bad heart going for years after the doctors said I had 6 months left in 2014
Me, too. At 75 and being disabled from ALS, I can no longer give this wonderful breed the care it deserves. My GSDs are the only beings I will miss in this life...
My favorite is when I somehow am able to go to another room without them and they run around the house trying to find me. It’s the sweetest sound ever.
Dogs are the most wonderful creatures on earth. They are actually angels without wings. And GSDs are just beyond wonderful. For that matter, dogs are actually better than human beings. They give you unconditional love, quite unlike human beings.

We're on our fourth GS. This is like all of our guys! Ours will snuggle with Dad when he sits down. We loved Shadow, Taz and Wolverine. We now have Tucker. Tucker loves to romp with his ball!
my GSD "Buddy" was alpha and THE toughest to train, but he played with me and had me in stitches laughing. We were at the flowing river when I noticed a basketball, and yelled "...could somebody please get that ball for me?..." . They did, and we invented this game only he and I played. And protective? o, yaaaaaaa. Of the 7 dogs I had and loved [Maltese, 3 Dobermans, Miniature Poodle [not so much..] and lastly, a Golden Retriever. I grieved horribly over Buddyt's passing. The vet didn't know what was wrong with him, so I RESEACHED and found out. I told my late father that he deposited pools of blood in various places. He said, "...it's too late...". Anyway, I shared the research I made, and the vets agreed with me. It was anal furunculosis. I'd very gently clean his butt and blew-dry the area on 'cool'. He kissed me on the cheek. I grieved terribly for a very long time. One day out of nowhere came this deep wail out of my being because I hurt SO badly. He was my ♥ dog and forever in the place in my heart which only he can occupy. I love you, sweet boy, and I will see you Upstairs when that day finally comes ♥
With a GSD, you will never be alone. As long as they know that you are the one in charge. Me and mine decided to question that who is the boss one evening when he was ~7months old. I lost a nail on my index finger.. puppy lost his dignity after that. 10y later still best friends. ~1900km for me hiking, he most likely has done 3700++. As when your dog works, you do not need a leash. Hiking/hunting/fishing. He reads me like an open book. I just hope my new puppy, 3rd gen wolf dog, gets good traits from both dad and mother.
Took my GSD to a park where I could let him run free. He might be running with my husband, but if he lost sight of me, he would go frantic trying to track me down. As a treat, I would occasionally give him an ox bone One night, I asked my husband to put up the bone, since he (the dog) had been gnawing it for long enough. Hubby came back & said, ‘he growled at me!’ I took the bone out of his mouth and put it on the counter. The dog could have reached the bone, but knew it wasn’t allowed. Problem solved. No doubt in my mind who the dog loved! ❤

I get his paw on the regular and believe me as a 4 time GSD owner, yeah....they all act this way if it's true affection - whether you want that slobber toy rubbed against you or not 😅

I have the love of my G.S. he won't let anyone, including my boyfriend touch me. He's my special boy! He will let me do what I have to with him... But will hid in his cage for anyone else... He loves car rides, he goes everywhere with my boyfriend and I if I go... But no one gets near my car! He's my baby ❤

I refuse to own any other breed. When your first dog is a German shepherd, you've already reached the top of the mountain. If you grew up With a German shepherd as a kid (I was 11 when I got my pup), every other breed is just a downgrade. I really need to get another German Shepherd in my life. It's been far too long since my boy passed.
My shepherd thinks the towel I use to dry her off is her favorite toy. But she don't give it to me, she runs with it and shreds it. Does that mean she loves me? Or the towel?
My girl checks all these and then some! Actually this is mild!! You have NO idea unless you have had the great pleasure of owning them!! My GSD coukd give you 100 more reasons how she loves me!! These are just basic for the breed!! They go much deeper than this!! This is common knowledge!!

What about the greeting you get after coming back after a while. When soldiers come home that is a big event for the GSD.
